Ellen and Allie let their dads style their hair for two days. Let's see if they are up to the challenge!
Transcript
00:00Hey, my name is Ellen, and welcome to Try This Challenge.
00:04This Try This Challenge, my dad is going to be doing my hair.
00:08The first day, he's going to try to style my hair the way that I always do it, a little
00:13curl.
00:13And then the second day, he gets to do it however he wants to do it, which will be interesting.
00:19I love my dad.
00:21I just don't know if he knows all the work that goes into styling my curly hair.
00:26He's going to have to use a curling iron, and I just, I don't want him to get hurt.
00:30I'm excited because I think that he's going to be excited, and I think it's going to create
00:33some really funny memories.
00:35Follow me along for the next two days as I let my dad tackle this mess of curls.
00:42This is day one.
00:44I'm excited because, dad, you went to cosmetology school when you were really young, right?
00:49Before you joined the army?
00:51Had about 600 hours worth.
00:54600 hours?
00:55That's a long time.
00:56Did you get, like, your license?
00:57You needed 1,200.
00:58Oh my god, you're a beauty school dropout.
01:00I'm a beauty school dropout.
01:04All right, well, let's see how this goes.
01:05Some other things you never do about.
01:06Oh god, I don't want you to burn my hair off.
01:09Step one, daddy.
01:10You have to take my curl cream and put it all throughout my hair.
01:16Okay.
01:19Whoa, whoa, whoa.
01:20Let's be a little gentle here.
01:23Maybe scrunch it a little bit.
01:25Don't just go willy-nilly.
01:26Whoa, you rubbed it?
01:28No, you got to scrunch it.
01:30That'll give me frizz.
01:32I thought this was de-frizz.
01:34Yeah, because we want to get the very ends.
01:37That's where it's all dry.
01:39Yeah, that's step one done.
01:40All right, let me just take some of this product off.
01:43I really have, you know, high expectations since you have 600 hours of beauty school.
01:50Yeah, I wouldn't be so confident.
01:53It's just putting bend marks into it.
01:55Oh my god.
01:56Step two, since it's a cold day, we got to blow dry.
02:00But you blow dry mostly just the top of my head because I have curly hair and you don't want
02:04to be frizzy, okay?
02:06Okay.
02:06Okay, I don't want to dry out the ends, but we got to get some of that moisture.
02:13Keep turning, keep turning, that's what you want.
02:16Okay.
02:17Let's put this right here.
02:19Is this like, shouldn't this be over this side?
02:23Before I go out, let's see if dad can curl the top of my hair.
02:28Baby English.
02:29I'm getting nervous how close you're getting to my head.
02:32Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
02:32We're good.
02:32We're good.
02:33One, two, three, yeah.
02:37Okay.
02:38One, three, ooh, yeah.
02:41Oh yeah, baby.
02:44Halfway through the day, my hair has this like crimp wave thing at the root and then
02:53not really much happening at the bottom.
02:55My family's really funny.
02:57They're all like laughing and saying how good the hair looks.
03:00I'm giving my dad a bit of a ribbing.
03:02It's definitely frizzier than normal, but kudos to him.
03:06Honestly, I think he did a pretty good job.
03:10It's the end of day one.
03:12He was like getting his sea legs today and tomorrow I'm a little worried to see what he does.
03:17Like, what's he gonna do?
03:19It's the end of the day.
03:20Yes.
03:21This is how my hair held up.
03:22How do you think you did, daddy?
03:26Oh, not too bad.
03:27I think you did pretty good.
03:29It could be better.
03:29It could be better, but it was pretty good.
03:32We'll see you tomorrow when dad gets to do my hair in any way he wants.
03:36Are you excited?
03:38Yes.
03:40Today is day two.
03:42My dad is going to do my hair the way that he wants to style it.
03:46Magic, I've changed.
03:48All right, not too tangly.
03:50It stays pretty good.
03:51What are you brushing my hair with?
03:53Oh my God.
03:54Brush his hair out.
03:55Yeah, I know, but it seems like it's pretty old.
03:58Oh my God, your initials are in it.
04:00Can you see that?
04:00Stop.
04:02Look at that.
04:03I haven't used it in over 40 years.
04:07Today, he gets full control and he can do whatever he wants.
04:11Easy squeezy.
04:13Just going to squeeze that hair right up behind your head.
04:16Little ponytail, just like when I was, when you were a little girl.
04:20Oh, okay.
04:20I like that.
04:21So this is what he used to do when I was younger, I guess.
04:26What is this?
04:27It's something I'm going to do.
04:29Where did this come?
04:30I think that's from, oh my God.
04:31I think that's literally from like when I was in eighth grade.
04:34All right, hold on.
04:35Let's just do a little side thing so everyone can see what's happening.
04:38You're trying to keep the hair in here and then do that?
04:41No, no, no.
04:42No.
04:42Oh, I like that.
04:43I didn't, it wasn't intended, but I kind of like that.
04:46Yeah, you like the little piece kind of thing.
04:48If it's distracting, I can put it back.
04:51I didn't even realize that was back there.
04:54You don't want a bobby pin?
04:55I mean, if I was out in the park, I wouldn't have a bobby pin one, I think.
04:59Well, that's true.
05:00No, this is good.
05:01Okay.
05:02As long as it looks halfway decent.
05:04Yeah.
05:05Okay.
05:06Let's see how it holds up for the day.
05:08Okay.
05:10Bye-bye.
05:16Oh, wow.
05:19That is, wow.
05:21You good with that?
05:22All right.
05:23Day two.
05:24My dad did my hair.
05:25Claire, it's a middle part, which I've never, I never go out with a middle part, so that's
05:29exciting.
05:30That's different right, you.
05:31And let's see how long this, uh, this is going to hold up.
05:37Claire, how do you think my dad did today?
05:39I don't think I've ever seen you in a ponytail, at least in recent years.
05:45Um, it's not a terrible ponytail, though.
05:49I think the moral of the story is that he needs some guidance, like yesterday.
05:54But I feel like I'm ready for soccer practice, so at least it took me back to that time.
06:00Midday, day two, starting to kind of fall in the back.
06:04My brother-in-law said there's like a librarian look to it.
06:10I had such a fun time doing this challenge with my dad.
06:14It was fun to see how he dealt with my routine.
06:18I thought that it was such a really nice bonding experience.
06:21Thanks, daddy, for doing this challenge with me.
06:24We had a good time, I thought.
06:25Yeah?
06:26It turned out pretty good.
06:27Yeah?
06:28You think so?
06:28Yesterday it didn't quite turn out the way you normally wear it, and today it turned out
06:32the way you would never wear it.
06:35I would highly recommend hanging out with your dad and maybe letting him do your hair,
06:39because it was a good time.
06:41Bye.
