00:01Gaming was just a hobby that I had, or it started out as a hobby, but it became my
00:06dream job. Games have definitely shaped who I am. It's always been a part of my
00:10life. It's still a constant in my life. It's everything I do, I guess. I play games
00:15because I'm curious about how someone else looking at and interpreting the
00:20world. What is the perspective of the developers and the artists behind the
00:24game? Hi, my name is Frances and I work for a New York City based meetup group
00:29that really brings together and teaches anyone who really wants to to make
00:35mobile games. I'm Rachel and I am a full-time mom to my son Gavin. My name is
00:40Rishi. I'm a skateboarder, student, and a game developer. Being a new mom, having a
00:47moment by myself is really scarce. Even when you go to the bathroom there's
00:52always somebody needing something. Gaming is like my little piece of something just
00:57for me. Video games I started playing maybe when I was five. I was introduced
01:02by my mom and grandmother actually. They just bought me games and I just kept
01:08playing and they kept buying me more. I started playing on mobile when I first
01:13got my phone in like high school. I want to make video games in the next ten years. I
01:18think that's where my passion is. I think the way my brain works are really into
01:25analyzing and understanding the system of the world. That makes it perfect for
01:31making games. When I play games I take notes. When I get home at the end of the
01:36day I use those notes to make my own games. The reason I love gaming so much is
01:43because it helps me get out of my mind for however long I'm playing. I could be a
01:48different character and it's usually a strong woman. I always pick female
01:53characters. I feel like there's always going to be a stigma when you're a female
01:58gamer. You always get stereotyped even though people don't really know you. A
02:03gamer could be anybody. They could look like anybody. They could be your grandma.
02:06They could be your mom like me. One of the reasons actually I want to became a
02:11female game developer. I mean I didn't choose that but I'd like to have a girl hero or
02:17female hero in there. I wanted to use my games to talk about bravery, intimacy,
02:23connection, vulnerability. Those themes that wasn't really being talking about
02:30before in video games. As Gavin grows up or as any kid normally grows up they want
02:35to spend less time with their parents and I feel like mobile gaming will help me
02:39bridge that gap and we can spend more time gaming together. That's one of the
02:43most important things. Like I have the ability to bring people together. I can
02:48talk to anyone. So just seeing what I do and bringing people together is always an
02:55amazing thing. I hope that the gaming world can be more encouraging, friendly
03:01and inclusive to all kinds of different experience and artistic expressions. If you
03:09want to get into gaming in any kind of capacity just do it. Just find other
03:16people who also share your passion because they're out there. Just believe
03:19that you can do it and it will happen.
