Kayla liked the dress but striving for a boyish body like the women of the 1920s was a bit more than she expected with this look.

00:00Check out these ankles.
00:02Hey guys, I'm Kayla and I'm 23 years old, but today I'm going back in time to transform
00:08myself into a 20-something year old from the 1920s.
00:11So when we think of the 1920s, we really think of this beautiful flapper dress with the beaded
00:15look and the long gloves and the short bob and it was this really beautiful image, but
00:19in reality women were kind of told to have this boyish figure.
00:23They didn't want to have boobs or a butt and that was kind of looked down upon.
00:26I have this really, you know, differing body, which I think so many women do between being
00:31muscular and petite and curvy and all these different factors.
00:35That's why I'm a little bit nervous today to kind of go back on that and everything that
00:39I've learned to embrace and kind of become more confident about.
00:42Now going back to the 20s, I kind of have to dial that back and kind of hide all those
00:47features
00:47that make me who I am.
00:49Despite being kind of restricted to my body, I still feel like it's a time to have fun,
00:53let loose, have these newfound freedoms.
00:56So I kind of want to play up the playfulness of the 20s.
01:00Oh my God.
01:03And today's bandage.
01:05Is this to tape my boobs up?
01:08I feel like I'm going to look like a grandma.
01:11Goodbye hair, goodbye curves, goodbye legs, goodbye sneakers.
01:16I'll miss you.
01:18Goodbye.
01:192018 Kayla.
01:21Hello, 1920s Kayla.
01:32Oh, who is she?
01:34If I had my hair in my regular big curls still, then nothing else would feel as weird.
01:40But this is like the biggest transformation piece because my hair is like such a big part
01:45of my identity that I feel like this is what is like the biggest thing that's giving me
01:49the transformation.
01:50There's not much shape here with this dress, which is so on par with the look.
01:56Even though I don't wear bodycon dresses on my own usually, I still feel like this is a lot
02:02looser than I would normally go because like it isn't giving me any shape.
02:06Got to show a little skin.
02:07Come on.
02:08Everything that I get my confidence from, whether it's my body or my hair and mostly just the
02:15outfits that I wear, my modern 2018 outfits, are kind of being stripped away into this totally
02:21new person and I'm kind of left with nothing that I would normally rely on, which makes me
02:28really anxious to kind of go out into the real world as this totally new person.
02:34Okay, we're about to go back to my desk and we're going to see all the reactions from my co
02:40-workers,
02:41who a few minutes ago saw me as curly haired Kayla and are about to see a girl from the
02:471920s.
02:48Oh my god.
02:51Oh my god.
02:53Oh my god.
02:53Oh my god.
02:54Oh my god.
02:55Amanda?
02:56Who is she?
02:57It's me, Edith.
02:59Oh my god.
03:00I've had this on for a few hours now.
03:02The ace bandage was fine to start, but it is killing me now.
03:07Breathing is like fine, but oh my god, it's just so painful.
03:11It hurts and I'm taking it off.
03:13Oh my god.
03:14Oh my god.
03:14That literally feels amazing.
03:17The hardest part about being a 1920s gal today was looking in the mirror, honestly.
03:25Sitting around all day in this outfit was actually really comfortable because it wasn't constricting
03:29in any way.
03:30Even though it's like intended for that certain boyish thin figure, it's very free flowing
03:37and comfortable, which was a major plus and like I didn't have to worry about adjusting
03:42anything or fixing anything, so that was super comfortable.
03:45The thing that was the weirdest and hardest about today was not having the things that
03:52I'm usually confident about from my hair to my body and just things that I have grown
03:57to know and love and kind of having to find confidence on the inside rather than the outside
04:03because this look and this 20s garden is so different than I'm used to, but I think the
04:09whole thing together just didn't feel like me, which makes it so easy to say I wouldn't
04:14do it again.
04:14I think if I maybe was in the wig with my regular outfits, I'd be like down in a heartbeat.
04:24After channeling my inner 20s girl for the day, I have so much respect for these women
04:30now like I didn't even know before just because I feel like they probably went through so much
04:35that I still can't even relate to.
04:37Thank you girls from the 1920s for our right to vote.
04:40I did it.
04:41I survived my day as a 1920s gal.
04:45It's over.
04:46I'm glad, but it was also a good day.
