00:04This is Bonnie Thunders.
00:05She's the captain of the Gotham Girls Roller Derby All-Stars.
00:09Under her guidance, the team has won five national championships
00:11and gone 80 games without a loss.
00:15Roller derby is chaotic and beautiful.
00:20People often ask if it's violent.
00:22I think of fighting as violent.
00:25Like, it is very aggressive, but that to me isn't violent.
00:28We're women who are powerful and are going to do it the way we want to do it.
00:32We have extremely, radically feminist girls who, like, put on red lipstick for games.
00:38But, like, you can do that because that's what you want to do
00:41and no one's going to say anything about it.
00:42I think it's just always about pushing yourself to do more than you think you can.
00:46I don't ever want to sell myself short. I want to maximize my potential.
00:51If you don't have that mentality or that drive, you don't make it in New York
00:56and you don't make it in Gotham Girls Roller Derby.
