00:01Welcome to Unstyled. I'm your host, Christine Barbrick, co-founder and global editor-in-chief
00:06of Refinery29. Each week, I invite a notable person to come in and talk with us as we explore
00:12the funny, inspiring, sometimes heartbreaking tales of life, work, and love, as told through
00:19the things that we wear. You may know Miranda Kerr as one of the supermodels of the 21st century,
00:32an otherworldly Victoria's Secret star who floated onto the catwalk almost a decade ago and made us
00:38seriously wonder what they were putting in the water over in Australia. Plus, how could we get
00:42some for ourselves? But while God-given genetics appear to be Kerr's secret weapon, it's actually
00:48her strong familial ties to nature, nutrition, and holistic self-care that she credits for not
00:54only her signature glow, but also her current rise as a next-gen beauty and skincare entrepreneur.
01:00Having spent the last decade as a legit student of nutrition and integrated wellness, Kerr has
01:05devoted the past few years to developing and founding her own conscious beauty line,
01:09Cora Organics, which has already become a must-have among Hollywood's glowiest.
01:14On top of that, Kerr has also penned two books tuned into affirmations and boosting self-confidence.
01:20She should know, as she's been refreshingly open about her former struggles through depression,
01:24which hit hard after her 2013 divorce from Orlando Bloom.
01:29She's also a mom to Flynn and newly married to a guy who's pretty much the LeBron James of the
01:34tech
01:34world, Snapchat founder and CEO Evan Spiegel. But as perfect as all that seems from the outside,
01:40inside, Miranda Kerr is more interested in a different view of success, helping busy women
01:45go deeper, finding new rituals and renewed strength and resilience through everyday intention
01:51and ultimately discovering their own definition of what being beautiful feels like.
01:59Miranda, it's such a pleasure to have you as a guest on UnStyled today. Thank you so much
02:03for being here.
02:04Yeah, thanks for having me.
02:05You have a very crazy schedule.
02:07I do.
02:08You do. You travel a lot and obviously you've had an incredibly successful career as a model
02:13and you have a number of different companies now and you also have published, is it four books?
02:19Treasure Yourself and Empower Yourself. So two books and then some affirmation cards.
02:23Oh. I wanted to kind of kick off with talking about balance. What would you say your idea of
02:28balance is?
02:29Well, for me, I mean, when I had my son six years ago, he's six now, so I made a
02:34conscious decision
02:34to really prioritize him in my life. And so prior to him being born, before I got pregnant,
02:42I was working six days a week, two different countries a week. And so that was, you know,
02:47obviously a very intense time and it was great. And it's now enabled me to be able to start
02:55my own company, Cora Organics. And so now I, you know, I have my office, it's based out of LA,
03:00around the corner from my son's school. And so, you know, I, I prioritize my life in such a way
03:06that, you know, my focus first and foremost is on my son and my family. And then after that on
03:12my
03:13business. And then after that, if there's any modeling jobs that kind of fit in when my son's
03:18with his father, then I'll do it.
03:20So a lot of people know you as a supermodel, as, you know, a world famous face and image of
03:27a lot
03:27of brands. But I think what a lot of people don't know is that you have a pretty rich background
03:31in
03:31nutrition and health and healing. And I would love to talk about where that interest was born in you.
03:38Health is wealth. I grew up in a little country town in Australia and my grandmother, she taught
03:43me the importance of eating fresh, you know, produce that we were growing in the backyard. My
03:48grandfather had a vegetable patch and we'd go and pick the vegetables and then she would teach me
03:52how to cook them. And she was like, this is where you get your nutrients from, you know,
03:57directly from the food. And she was the one that introduced me to noni juice when I was 13.
04:01We're going to get into that in a little bit because that's a real, there's, this is definitely
04:05a very, a very serious conversation about noni juice. Continue.
04:09Yes. And so my family is like quite a very health conscious family. We believe at the end of the
04:16day,
04:16if you fill your body with the right nutrients, then it's going to function at the best. But also
04:20it comes down to that balance, like doing things that create joy within your life, like having that
04:26balance between work, family. So that mind, body, soul connection. And then I went on to study in
04:33Australia. I studied at the Academy of Natural Living, a course via correspondence. And then I studied
04:39at a course based out of New York here called Integrative Nutrition.
04:43Traveling the world as, as a model, I mean, you probably had one of the most demanding schedules
04:48and I'm sure it's incredibly challenging. It's challenging for me to actually take care of
04:52myself given demands in my life. But I can't imagine just having to be in like, you know,
04:5718 different cities in, you know, 30 days, however many it is. And there just must be a lot of
05:03pressure
05:03on just maintaining good health, you know, just taking care of yourself, sleeping.
05:07Yeah. Tell me what you learned about that experience as a model in that industry, in the industry and
05:13how that's informed your skincare line. If I didn't have this passion for health and wellness,
05:18I honestly am not sure I would have been able to have as of a demanding schedule, you know, and,
05:23and have maintained kind of my energy and enthusiasm for it all. You know, I mean, I've been
05:29modeling for 20 years now. So, you know,
05:32I believe it's been 20 years. Wow. Yeah. Well, since my first photo shoot, I guess you could say,
05:36but I started taking it more seriously. My first trip was to Japan when I was 17 and I celebrated
05:42my 18th birthday there. But, you know, if I didn't know how to take care of myself, I wouldn't have
05:47been able to continue at the pace that I had for so long. And as I said, I've always had
05:52a passion
05:53for health. I mean, my mother, she's been such a, another strong influence in my life. I mean,
05:58if it wasn't for her, I wouldn't understand the importance of work ethic. I mean, she said to me,
06:03if you're going to do something, do it properly or don't do it at all. And she was also the
06:08one that
06:08said to me when I was little, she had a little pillow made for me and it said, shine your
06:12light,
06:12which was about like shining your heart and like opening your heart and shining from within.
06:17That's really extraordinary. I mean, to have your, she had a pillow made for you?
06:20Yeah. A little, um, like embroidered.
06:23Yeah. Do you still have it?
06:24And she probably has it. I, I don't, I should take it with me, but
06:28I think you should have her ship it to you.
06:30I'm not really, I'm not really like attached to things. It's kind of funny. I just.
06:34Really? You don't, well.
06:35Not things like.
06:37But you're into symbology. I mean, I think that.
06:39I'm into symbolism. Yeah.
06:41Yeah. So I think that that's a different kind of.
06:42It's a good little. Yeah.
06:44Yeah. I think it's a different kind of connection.
06:45But the memory is like so strong, you know.
06:48I get that pillow back.
06:49Yeah. I get the pillow back.
06:51I think you should get that pillow back.
06:51I think I need that pillow back.
06:53I know. I probably have.
06:53She's probably got it somewhere special at home.
06:56She is such an inspirational woman to me as well.
06:59Like she can, she can cook extraordinarily well.
07:02So can my grandma.
07:03I've actually watched your cooking videos.
07:05Oh yeah.
07:05I love to cook.
07:07I worked at Gourmet Magazine for four and a half years.
07:09And I wish, I know everyone, everyone has that same reaction when I tell them.
07:13And then I tell them that I, I don't really enjoy cooking.
07:15You don't?
07:16No, Eden could tell you.
07:17Okay.
07:17But I have to say you made a salad.
07:19It was, you made this incredible salad that looked really beautiful.
07:21And you were so, you were just really casual, just like pulling the salad together.
07:26And I was like, I'll never make that just because it seemed like a lot of ingredients.
07:29It's a, it's a lot, but every salad I make is kind of different.
07:33You know, it's like.
07:34This one had cabbage in it, which I'm a huge fan of red cabbage.
07:37Me too.
07:38I chop it up and I put a little baggies and I bring it as a snack.
07:40I find it very satisfying.
07:41It is.
07:42It's a little bit peppery.
07:42Cabbage.
07:43And it lasts forever.
07:44I love fennel.
07:45Fennel's really good.
07:46And I love, um, radish in the salad.
07:48I love radishes too.
07:50Yeah.
07:50And olives.
07:51Aren't they antibacterial too?
07:52They are.
07:53Or anti something.
07:54There's some special quality about olives.
07:56We didn't actually answer the question about how, what you've learned in the modeling industry.
08:00Oh yeah, sorry.
08:00So just in terms of how your skin reacted to the demands that you had in that, in that
08:06job, and also even your skin's reaction to the products that they used, what did you
08:10want to achieve with the skincare line?
08:12My skin has experimented with every type of skincare out there and every type of makeup.
08:19And it also strips your skin as well.
08:22And so I just, I was like, how can we fill these products with nutrients?
08:26Like, so they detoxify your skin and then they put the nutrients back in.
08:30So that your skin is like glowing.
08:32And so for me, creating Cora Organics products that really help detoxify so that it's going
08:39directly on your skin into your bloodstream.
08:42That is like super important because we live in a world where there are so many chemicals
08:48and toxins that we can't prevent, you know?
08:51And, and I do believe in a balance and I believe in making a conscious choice.
08:55For instance, like because your skin is the largest organ in the body, it made sense to
09:00me, it was a no brainer.
09:01Why wouldn't you be putting organic, certified organic products, not just organic, but certified
09:06organic?
09:06What's the difference?
09:08Well, unfortunately with the current laws, people can say their product's organic if it
09:13has one organic ingredient.
09:15But when you're certified organic through EcoCert, like Cosmos, like we are, which is a world
09:20certifying body, they have incredibly stringent rules on every single part of the process involving
09:28like not only the ingredients, you know, they have to be organic.
09:31And that tells you specifically on the back of the package, like 99.8% of these products
09:36come from, you know, organic origin, blah, blah, blah.
09:38It tells you very specifically like that.
09:41So customers know what they're getting and that's on the outside of the package.
09:44Not only that, all of the components that the packaging is in needs to be approved by
09:48EcoCert.
09:49Even the outside box, they're all biodegradable, fully recyclable.
09:53They need to be like airtight to not let any air come in so the products can maintain their
09:58shelf life.
09:59There's so much work that goes into it and it's been such a headache for me on this end.
10:04But for the customers, they get the best quality products.
10:08My experience with like organic products is that they don't really work.
10:11They smell really good and they're really moisturizing and hydrating, but they don't
10:15actually perform.
10:17So it's exciting to hear that that's not the case.
10:21Yeah.
10:21I mean, to do these studies, because this is my business and it's my baby and it's like
10:27I'm the one that's funding it all.
10:28So our consumer study showed that 96% saw visible improvement in skin looking healthier and more
10:34glowing after four weeks and a hundred percent saw visible improvement in skin balance and
10:41improved elasticity after four weeks.
10:43Um, and these, you know, as I was saying, like this is a Noni Glow face oil and it's full
10:49of antioxidants.
10:49It's a way to feed your skin with these nutrients.
10:54It contains concentrated extracts of Noni, rosehip oil, sea buckthorn that work together
11:01synergistically to really balance your skin's pH.
11:04I use it at nighttime as like a treatment, but I also use it.
11:07It's great to use as a base under makeup.
11:09Use a couple of drops of this mixed with, I mix in the hydrating moisturizer.
11:13So it's a wonderful base.
11:15And then I, you know, put my foundation on over the top and then I'll just powder down
11:20the center and then you kind of have the glow on the sides.
11:22You're making supplements now as well.
11:24Yeah.
11:25A little, um, single serve sachet that you can just mix in with your water or have in your
11:30smoothie.
11:30That's the Noni powder.
11:32That's the Noni.
11:32I have to say I've been using the Noni powder and my husband's been using it now too for
11:37like two months.
11:38And I have to say it's, it's pretty transformative.
11:40Yeah.
11:41The little Noni Glow skin supplement.
11:43Yeah.
11:43I throw it in with my, with my Dr. Lipman shake every morning and it's delicious.
11:48And I, I love using it before I actually work out.
11:51Tell us about Noni because you're obsessed with Noni and it's native to Australia, but just
11:56tell us about what this ingredient is.
11:58Noni is a superfood, super fruit.
12:01Um, it's quite, it's been used for like thousands of years.
12:08Um, they originally started using it in French Polynesia and now they also grow it in Australia.
12:12It's, um, a medicinal fruit.
12:16Um,
12:17Can you just buy it in the supermarket?
12:19You can buy Noni juice in the supermarket, preferably, you know, if it's organic.
12:24Um, but this little, I created this little powder because Noni juice is actually not very palatable
12:31on its own.
12:32Um, but it's sour.
12:34It's, they call it the cheese fruit.
12:37It's quite pungent.
12:38Um, it's an acquired taste.
12:40And my grandmother, she's the one that introduced it to me.
12:44And so she'd be like, here, have a little shot, like, you know, like a little, like 30
12:48mils of Noni.
12:50And like, if I was tired or had to do homework in the night, she's like, have another little,
12:54a little bit of Noni.
12:55It'll keep you going.
12:56I'm like, okay.
12:57So, and then if I ever had a breakout or a sunburn, she'd be like, here, let me put the
13:03Noni on it.
13:03She put the Noni directly onto my skin.
13:06And so when I, we're definitely getting your grandmother around unstyled.
13:10Yeah.
13:10So when I decided to create Cora Organics, I was like, Noni has to be the key ingredient
13:16across all the products.
13:18And it is.
13:26Tell me about your, your morning rituals.
13:28Do you drink coffee?
13:29Please tell me you drink coffee.
13:31Sometimes I do like, okay.
13:32So it's funny because I, my dad growing up, my dad like used to make me a coffee and not
13:39when I was little, but as I was like in high school or whatever, he would make me a coffee
13:42in the morning.
13:42And it was like, it's an organic freeze dried coffee with the granules, you know, the granules,
13:50like not like the American express.
13:52Yes.
13:52It was.
13:52So he'd be like, Miranda, this is the way you have to make your coffee.
13:56First you put in the granules, then you add the milk when we have goat's milk.
14:00So mix in the milk and then you put in a little bit of honey, mix that in, and then
14:05you put
14:05the hot water.
14:05He's like, you can't do it the other way around.
14:07Otherwise you'll burn the, the coffee.
14:10I was like, okay, dad.
14:11So now.
14:11And then you strain it afterwards?
14:13No, cause it's, um, it's like instant granules.
14:16That's what's so funny.
14:17It's like organic instant coffee.
14:19And apparently for my blood type, coffee's fine.
14:22Cause I, I, I do believe there, there is some truth to eating for your blood type because
14:29I saw firsthand actually with my parents, because my mom is an O blood type and my dad is an
14:36A. And I remember I was younger and they both went on the Atkins diet.
14:41That's good for your mom, but not your dad.
14:42It's good for my mom and not for my dad, but they didn't know at the time.
14:45And my dad was gaining all this weight on this Atkins diet and my mom was looking incredible.
14:50And so afterwards we found out their blood types and it made complete sense.
14:55Yeah.
14:55Because the O is the natural carnivore.
14:57Exactly.
14:58I'm an A.
14:59I'm an A too.
15:00So we need sleep.
15:01Last night I only slept five hours.
15:03What's the perfect night?
15:03The perfect night would be eight hours sleep.
15:06Me too.
15:07Like not interrupted.
15:09Nine is really great.
15:10Isn't it a luxury?
15:11Nine would be such a luxury.
15:13It's heaven.
15:13I don't think I've had that since my son's being born, but.
15:15So does your son wake you up in the morning?
15:17Yeah.
15:17He comes in in the morning.
15:19He's like, mommy.
15:20And then I give him a big cuddle.
15:22My husband sometimes will get up earlier than my son.
15:25Yeah, because he's got a really busy life.
15:27He wakes up at like 5.30.
15:29So what will happen is he'll wake up and then he'll go and take his shower.
15:34I'll stay in bed, open the blinds, do a little meditation.
15:37Then Flynn wakes up like around six, comes in.
15:41And I have a bit of cuddle time with him.
15:43Like, did you have any dreams?
15:44Like talk about all of that.
15:45That's very sweet.
15:46And so we'll get ready.
15:47He'll like get ready for school and we pick out his clothes the night before so that he's
15:51got them all ready.
15:52And then I'll get ready, like have my shower, cleanse, mist and moisturize.
15:56Like I do religiously morning and night.
15:59What do you have for breakfast?
16:00I like to start off with like a hot water.
16:02I went through a stage of having hot water with lemon.
16:05And then I went through another stage of having hot water with a little teaspoon of apple
16:09cider vinegar.
16:10And now I'm doing hot water.
16:12Just plain hot water.
16:13Just plain hot water.
16:14Some people put a pinch of salt in it too.
16:16The Himalayan pink sea salt is supposed to be good apparently.
16:19The electrolytes.
16:20Yes.
16:20Evan's pretty much gone by that stage.
16:22He will just grab like a green juice and a coffee.
16:25Does he drink your noni powder?
16:26He drinks the noni.
16:27Yes.
16:28He loves it.
16:28Oh, good.
16:29And he uses the noni glow face oil.
16:31He probably needs to, he probably really needs mental focus.
16:34Yeah, he does.
16:35Yes.
16:35It's tough running a kind of coffee.
16:36But he doesn't drink my kind of coffee.
16:38He likes to drink an espresso in the morning.
16:40Well, that's okay.
16:41That's fine.
16:42He's entitled.
16:42Yeah.
16:43It's organic though.
16:45I made sure of it.
16:46I love morning rituals.
16:47Do you make your bed?
16:49I don't.
16:50You don't?
16:51Oh my gosh.
16:52Yeah.
16:52I know it's bad, right?
16:53No judgment.
16:54Sometimes, but not every single day.
16:56I will make it when I like get home.
16:59Like.
16:59I think there's a scientific study that.
17:01It's better.
17:02That talks about it.
17:03There's some kind of like mental acuity that it sort of unlocks.
17:06I think it's small things like that, like the noni powder or just making your bed in
17:10the morning or even just having a glass, you know, a glass of hot water and lemon with lemon
17:15in the morning when life can be so incredibly overwhelming.
17:18And obviously we're talking about just like all of the, yeah, there's just a lot of, a
17:23lot of things out of our control.
17:26Do you think that, is there anything that you would consider a bad habit?
17:28I feel like moderation is key.
17:30And like, even with eating and whatnot, I like try to stick to 80% healthy and 20% indulgence.
17:36So what's in the 20% indulgence?
17:38Evan makes a really good burgers, generally on the grill or on a Sunday on the grill.
17:45So we get free range meat, but then he puts a little cheese in the middle and then he like
17:49adds his special like recipe of like marinating it.
17:52Oh, it's so fancy.
17:53What kind of cheese?
17:54Just like an organic cheddar.
17:56Okay.
17:57Yeah.
17:57He like, he like folds it all up into like little things and puts it in there and he
18:02loves making his burgers and he makes a killer guacamole with, um, pomegranate seeds, like
18:08pomegranates and, um, onion.
18:10I've never heard of that before.
18:12Delicious.
18:13Pomegranate seeds.
18:13So it's texture.
18:14Yeah.
18:15You get that little like crunch and the onion and then the fresh lime.
18:18So that's like his thing.
18:20The two of you should have a cooking show.
18:21Yeah.
18:21That's his specialty.
18:22What's the one thing that you would recommend doing every day?
18:25I would say just be aware of what you're putting into your body and on your skin.
18:33So, you know, try your best to avoid processed foods.
18:36Fresh is always best.
18:37You know, go to the farmer's market, go somewhere local and buy your fruit and vegetables, like
18:43grow some in your backyard.
18:45Do you know what I mean?
18:45Like, even when I was living in New York, I had a little garden with, you know, little
18:50herbs and things.
18:51Um, I love parsley.
18:53I do too.
18:54And cilantro.
18:55Yes.
18:56Love cilantro.
18:57Cilantro is like life changing.
18:58But I also think that a lot of people don't have the time nor have access to farmer's markets.
19:04And you guys have amazing farmer's markets in Los Angeles.
19:08Yeah.
19:08I think trying to find a way to turn farmer's markets visits into an adventure, trying to
19:13find ways to sort of fit it into your schedule so you can actually start to get familiar
19:18with what a great apple tastes like.
19:20Because I think it's something that Dan Barber from, from Blue Hill, his episode on Chef's
19:24Table was so enlightening to me because he was talking about this commitment that he has to
19:30sort of reminding people or at least educating people about what things are supposed to taste
19:34like.
19:34Yes.
19:35Because we've really lost touch, you know, with eating from supermarkets and obviously
19:39eating things that are genetically modified.
19:41Yes.
19:42And not to get too scientific, but I do think that there is something genuinely, um, so valuable
19:49about going to a farmer's market because it just puts you so much closer to nature.
19:54Yeah.
19:54The roots of these foods.
19:56And it's, it's just a great reminder of what things, you know, the sort of abundance, you
20:01know, you can have in your life.
20:02Yeah.
20:03Yeah.
20:03It really is.
20:10You've been really open about just, you know, some of your struggles in the past with depression.
20:14What are some ways that you've found maybe some practices or things that have helped
20:20you to kind of come out of, you know, different dark stages or different kinds of experiences
20:25that were difficult for you?
20:26My natural nature is very positive and happy and growing up, you know, if you heard people
20:31say like, Oh, you know, I'm feeling depressed or whatever.
20:34I thought, Oh, maybe they're just having a bad day, you know?
20:36And like, Oh, I get it.
20:37Like, obviously we all have different levels of emotions that we all experience.
20:41But after Orlando and I separated, like a few months later, I fell into this really intense
20:49depression where I didn't even know where it came from.
20:53I couldn't, like, obviously I'd separated from Orlando and like, I wanted to keep the
20:59family together, but I knew it was for the best to not be together.
21:02So I couldn't even put my finger on it because I knew it was the right choice.
21:07And I was like, so overwhelmed with this intensity of emotions that I was feeling.
21:11And I was like, wow, it felt like I was in a dark hole and I didn't know how to
21:16get out.
21:16And so, you know, I didn't feel like exercising and exercise really helps, you know, when you're
21:22depressed, it like helps with the serotonin levels and whatnot.
21:24I didn't, I didn't want to do anything, you know?
21:27And like for someone who was so motivated and had such a passion for life, you know, and
21:31I spoke to my aromatherapist in Australia and I said, I don't know what to do.
21:36And she's like, look, let me make you this little special blend of supercharged oils that
21:41are really nurture your heart.
21:43Aromatherapy has been used for such a long time.
21:46We make this little oil called the heart chakra essence and that's what it is.
21:51It's that supercharged blend that she made for me, which contains Rose Otto and Lang Lang
21:56and Sandalwood and Cedarwood, which these oils are supercharged oils that really help
22:03nurture your heart.
22:04They're very calming and grounding and I still wear it every single day.
22:08The way I describe it is like when you put these oils on and then you smell it, you just
22:13feel like you're getting a hug, that kind of nurturing hug feeling.
22:18That's the closest thing I can describe it to.
22:19I wanted to make it available for everyone because I feel like everyone needs a hug, right?
22:25We do.
22:26And I have to say, it's been such an important mission for us at Refinery29, just really helping
22:32to remove the stigma around depression and mental illness because it's something that
22:36so many people experience and move through and struggle with and have a lot of fears about.
22:41And I think that just having people like you just talking openly about what it was like
22:45going through different moments in your life that were challenging and how you actually found
22:49the courage and the strength and the resources to recover is just really inspiring.
22:54So I think that I'm sure a lot of people out there might not agree with you about like,
23:00you know, the use of aromatherapy, but I think the point is to really find something that
23:03actually works for you.
23:04So I'm finding something that works for you.
23:05Yeah, exactly.
23:06That's the thing.
23:06Like what works for me might be different for someone else and, you know, and everyone
23:11has different things.
23:12And that's the same thing when it comes to exercise or eating.
23:15Like every individual is like so different.
23:17But if you find what works for you, then...
23:20And no judgment.
23:21Like don't judge people for what like works for them.
23:23Whatever works for them.
23:24Yeah.
23:24Yeah, exactly.
23:25It's like the same thing with the rose quartz.
23:26Like I always carry rose quartz around with me.
23:28We have to talk about some...
23:29Can we please just talk about crystals really quickly?
23:32So this little rose quartz, you know, it's like...
23:34Can I touch it?
23:35Yeah.
23:35Do you carry it with you every day?
23:37Yeah.
23:37And I normally like...
23:38Oh, it's a heart.
23:39I normally put it in my bra, but I had it in my pocket because I wanted...
23:42I didn't want to reach into my bra.
23:43Yeah, it wouldn't feel uncomfortable.
23:45It's actually just...
23:46You can't see it, but it's a flat rose quartz stone and it feels really smooth and it's
23:50beautiful.
23:51Yeah.
23:51And so, you know, rose quartz is like being known to carry that vibration of love.
23:57It's a very nurturing stone.
23:59And for me, it's like something that I really was naturally drawn to.
24:04We can always be so hard on ourselves.
24:05And if we can appreciate and nurture ourselves, then we can give so much back to other people.
24:12And so that word that so many people don't like, like that self-love, it's actually really
24:16important to love and appreciate yourself in like a very humble way.
24:20And so all the products, all core organics products are filtered through rose quartz to
24:24kind of add that little magic to the experience, to that daily ritual of like cleansing, misting,
24:28moisturizing your skin.
24:29And it feels special when you use it.
24:32So...
24:32I love that it feels special.
24:33I can tell.
24:34How do you use them in your house, in your everyday life?
24:37I set the intention with this clear quartz so that when you walk through the door, you
24:42kind of leave the stress behind of like work or your day or whatnot so that your home becomes
24:47your sanctuary of peace and calm and nurturing and like being able to take that time for yourself
24:52to really give back to yourself.
24:54So then you can, when you leave, you can give back to everyone else.
24:57So, and then I have like big amethyst ones and I have like a little meditation room in
25:03my place in Malibu.
25:05So there's like geodes, like amethyst geodes, which are very good for meditation.
25:11Yeah.
25:11Can I tell you where I have crystals in my house?
25:13Someone told me a long time ago to do this, but I don't keep anything under our bed because
25:18I've heard that that's really bad in terms of feng shui, but an amethyst underneath my
25:24husband and a big quartz crystal.
25:27Rose quartz?
25:27It's not rose quartz.
25:29It's like, it's like white.
25:30Clear quartz.
25:31It's clear quartz.
25:31Yeah.
25:32And I switched them because I don't know, I don't exactly know what the benefits are for,
25:36for, you know, that are, what the differences are.
25:38But...
25:39The amethyst is really good for sleep.
25:41He does sleep better than I do.
25:43Maybe you should swap it.
25:44Yeah, exactly.
25:45And the clear quartz kind of like removes negativity and...
25:49That's probably good for me.
25:50Amplifies like the energy.
25:52So it can, if you put the clear quartz and the amethyst together, it will amplify the
25:57energy of the calmness of the rose, I mean the amethyst.
26:01Yeah.
26:02I just like seeing them when I'm like cleaning or whatever.
26:04I like seeing them under the bed.
26:05It just makes me happy.
26:06What's your philosophy about style at the moment?
26:09I love that fashion is a way to express part of your personality.
26:12And I love different textures.
26:14I'm very a tactile person.
26:16Like I love the way like different fabrics feel.
26:18And I love the fact that this shirt doesn't like crease.
26:21But unfortunately my pants, they crease a lot.
26:24Really?
26:25In the same fabric?
26:26Different fabric.
26:27Oh.
26:28The pants that I'm wearing today, they crease a lot, but that's okay.
26:30I didn't realize that until after I sat down.
26:32I just feel like playing with color with fashion, finding back to that thing, finding what
26:38works for you as an individual is so important because it doesn't matter what's like on trend
26:43or on fashion, like it might not suit you.
26:46You know what I mean?
26:46Like I remember when that kind of Kate Moss look with like that rocker t-shirt and like
26:52And her fur jacket and like skinny jeans.
26:55Yeah, and like black eyeliner and all that.
26:56Like, sorry, but that look doesn't look good on me.
26:58Like that's not my jam, you know?
27:00Like it doesn't matter if it's in fashion or whatever.
27:02But, you know, so I just find like what works for me and I just go with that, you know?
27:07Like I don't like to follow trends or...
27:10Was there anything from a shoot that you ever took with you that you treasure?
27:15Any piece of clothing?
27:16It's a good question.
27:17Well, I do remember...
27:20Like what's the most treasured piece in your closet?
27:22There's a jacket.
27:23It's like a men's jacket from Dior that was given to me and I've worn it with everything
27:30like over a dress, over jeans.
27:33It's like a timeless piece.
27:34It'll be in my wardrobe forever, you know?
27:36That's a good piece.
27:37Yeah.
27:37And it's like, it's my way of like being cool.
27:40You know, like that, you know, like I can't do like the punk rock t-shirt, but like I can
27:44do that, you know?
27:46No, that sounds like a really, really special piece.
27:48Yeah.
27:48Um, Miranda, it's been such a pleasure to have you on Unstyled.
