00:00Lipstick made by women for women in shades that most women have never seen
00:04before. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple and everything in between. These
00:10vegan and cruelty-free lipsticks have been challenging beauty standards and
00:13the beauty industry since founder Melissa started making them in 2012.
00:18Hi I am Melissa Butler the founder and CEO of The Lip Bar and today we're
00:24going to make the wildly popular liquid lipstick. Here on this mixing table we
00:31have some of the shades that go into one of our really popular shades which is
00:36rubble. So rubble is a burgundy with hints of red, hints of blue, hints of purple.
00:44These ingredients are weighed perfectly with our liquid lipstick base. Now inside
00:49of our liquid lipstick base you have really awesome ingredients like vitamin E to
00:54really make sure that not only does your lipstick not come off but also your
00:58lips don't fall off. All of our products are vegan, cruelty-free, paraben-free. We
01:06try to use natural and organic ingredients as often as possible without
01:10compromising the product performance. After the pigments are added to the liquid
01:19lipstick base they are mixed together in a process called homogenizing. Once the
01:25liquid lipstick base is perfectly measured we mill the pigments and then we add it
01:30into this homogenizer. The ingredients are blended together until the texture is
01:38silky smooth and consistent throughout and then we're ready for the filling.
02:01We add it into this funnel and then the measuring begins.
02:09The liquid lipstick is carefully measured into little vials and passed down the
02:13assembly line to be packaged. Once the product is in the container we then take
02:20the lipstick wand we stick it in there and we twist it and voila we have a
02:29finished lip bar liquid matte lipstick. The lip bar is known for their different
02:36shades but their commitment to inclusivity transparency and making the highest
02:41quality products possible is what truly sets them apart from other beauty brands.
02:47I started the lip bar in 2012 making lipstick in my kitchen because I was so
02:54extremely frustrated with the beauty industry. I hated its lack of diversity, I hated that
03:00most cosmetics were filled with a lot of unnecessary chemicals, I hated that for
03:04years we were taught that if you want a high quality cosmetics you had to spend you
03:09know a high price point and so I wanted to challenge the way we thought about
03:13beauty. Beauty is largely run by men so to be able to partner with a manufacturing
03:18facility that's woman owned and woman operated it means a lot to me to take
03:24action against it. The next time you buy your lip bar lipstick remember that it's
03:29not just a pretty color it's a commitment to changing the beauty industry one
03:33lipstick at a time.
