00:00What is, what's the deal with A.J. Brown?
00:03Degenerative knee issue.
00:05So, and he was cleared.
00:08Trade was cleared.
00:09By Elliott Wolfe.
00:10Well, Elliott Wolfe, back in whatever that was, June, said, hey, you know, clear, medical staff has cleared him.
00:17So now, I guess we should be a little bit troubled by this situation.
00:22He was limited in practice Wednesday and then didn't practice at all yesterday, A.J. Brown.
00:27I mean, I would be, and it's the same knee, right?
00:29Do we know, are they saying it's the same exact knee?
00:32It's a new, it's a new knee thing, but it, well, it's a new appearance of a degenerative knee thing,
00:39Curtis.
00:39I'm not a doctor.
00:41Which, to me, that means that is something that doesn't go away.
00:44You just have to deal with forever.
00:47Like, it's not, like, I've got floating kneecaps, not going to change.
00:50Like, A.J. Brown has this knee issue that is something that he's just going to have to deal with
00:55for the rest of his playing career.
00:57And I guess it depends on how bad the pain is or what he's having to deal with.
01:01Like, if it's something that is just like, you know, when you get, like, where you just kind of have,
01:07like, that achy knee pain, but you still can go out there and play, you wear a brace and that
01:11kind of thing.
01:11It actually worries me more, less that it's the knee that he's going to have to deal with forever, and
01:16more that it's the same leg as the ankle issue that sidelined him.
01:21Because, you know, your knee and ankle are connected.
01:23So, if you have this knee issue that you're dealing with all the time and maybe you're favoring it, even
01:28if you don't think you are, that could lead to ankle issues.
01:30508 Texter says, we were fleeced by the Philadelphia Eagles.
01:34And I guess you have to ask that question.
01:36Well, no, see, I don't think so.
01:38I think that's why I asked, is it the same knee?
01:41Yes.
01:41Okay, so if it's the same knee, then we knew about this.
01:44It's his right knee.
01:45Then those are the questions that people were coming up with at that time.
01:49Remember, people were like, oh, he's got these knee issues.
01:51And we were all like, yeah, whatever.
01:52We never noticed that he looked fine.
01:54Because he had cleanup surgery on both knees.
01:56Right.
01:56But if it's the one that everybody was talking about before the Patriots signed him,
02:02this is something that, you know, I think as a Pats fan, I was like, yeah, no issue.
02:06He looks fine.
02:07He had, oh, what do you have, over 1,000 yards last year?
02:10I was like, it's not a big deal.
02:11And so now if it's that same knee, then, you know, you've got to have some red flags that are
02:16going up moving forward to see, okay,
02:18is he now going to miss games because of this?
02:21Yeah, and when the deal was consummated, yes, Wolfe acknowledged, Elliot Wolfe, Brown has a degenerative knee condition.
02:27Quote, it's a factor, but we examined him.
02:30He's got a knee that has some wear and tear that we're aware of.
02:34Our training staff and medical staff signed off on the trade.
02:38This could be a, I mean, this brings back, I don't know, Wiggs, if degenerative knee conditions are impacted by
02:47excessive use,
02:48but the snaps in that Jets game make no sense.
02:54Like, if you're trying to get a guy ready to go off of that injury delay, why would you play
02:59him that much in that game?
03:01And then he played almost in the entire Bears game, a game he was clearly still struggling in,
03:06and now you have a week and a half in between games and his knee is worse than it was
03:11when he came back.
03:11Well, that 3-3-9 texter says, should have re-signed Diggs, coach effed up.
03:19So, I don't know.
03:20You could still have re-signed Diggs and traded for A.J. Brown.
03:24Yeah, correct.
03:25Yeah, you could have done both.
03:26Yeah, you could have done both.
03:26Or you could have, like, you know, you could have looked at Jaden Waddell.
03:31Who was the other wide receiver to get traded?
03:34What time?
03:34Wasn't there another wide receiver?
03:35The guy with the bills?
03:36Oh, D.J. Moore.
03:37D.J. Moore, yeah.
03:38But you could have looked in.
03:39You could have pushed harder on George Pickens down in Dallas, you know, to maybe get him.
03:45But if you felt like it's just something that was degenerative and that wasn't really going to affect him until
03:50maybe three, four years out,
03:52and you're only looking at this as, like, maybe a two-year deal.
03:55Yeah.
03:56Then.
03:57How about hang on to booty?
04:00Yeah.
04:00How about that one?
04:01Well, if he misses time.
04:02But he's done nothing in Houston.
04:04Yeah, but he's a body.
04:05To the point where they went and traded for Marvin Harrison, Jr.
04:08Yeah.
04:08I think the booty deal is he's shown that they were right in Houston.
04:13He's done nothing there.
04:15Okay.
04:15Well, we'll get into that on a Patriots Friday.
04:19So, Phil Perry was on with an Alex Barth podcast across the street, and it's right at the top of
04:28daily.
04:28He was asked on a scale of one to ten what his concern level is for A.J. Brown.
04:35And this was his response.
04:37It's high.
04:38It's out of ten.
04:40It's probably a nine.
04:42A nine out of ten.
04:45Wow.
04:45Who was that?
04:46Phil Perry.
04:46Okay.
04:47Because then you've got Todd Downings, who's, like, saying that he's not worried at all.
04:51And that's the wide receiver coach.
04:53Yes, that's the wide receiver's coach.
04:54Well, one's paid by the Patriots and one isn't.
04:56Yeah.
04:57Yeah, but one wouldn't, like, one's saying that and putting himself out on front street as the wide receiver coach.
05:02Right.
05:02And then if something is wrong, then he really looks bad.
05:06You look dumb.
05:07Yeah, like, Phil Perry, he's kind of like us.
05:09He's just spewing at the mouth.
05:10So, if it doesn't look.
05:11I don't think Phil Perry's a bomb tosser at all.
05:13No, no, no.
05:13He's not.
05:14And he's connected.
05:14I'm not saying he's a bomb tosser, but if it's not a big issue, we just kind of blow past
05:20it.
05:21Whereas, if you're the wide receiver coach and you then say that.
05:24I don't know.
05:25How can you not be troubled by it?
05:27Well, hold on, guys.
05:28One guy is impartial.
05:30The other guy is working with him directly.
05:33A guy that we all believe cannot receive criticism well or perceive slights well in A.J. Brown.
05:42So, Todd Downing gains nothing by saying, if he is indeed really worried, saying he's really worried.
05:48You're saying he needs to pump his tires.
05:50Of course.
05:51Because A.J. Brown is a guy.
05:51What's the upside of publicly saying he's worried about it, especially before the trade deadline?
05:55Curtis, if we had Vrabel on the show and we asked about a certain person who said they're not worried
06:00at all and then that person didn't play the next week,
06:02you would be talking about that, saying, like, how did he come out on this show and say that he
06:07wasn't worried and then the guy didn't play?
06:09I mean, we did.
06:09Who's saying about playing?
06:10He might play.
06:11Well, he said he's not worried at all.
06:13We did it with Drake May and the whole injury thing.
06:16Like, if you're going to come out and say something, I think if you're a coach, there's more flack that
06:22you're going to catch than just somebody in the media who says something.
06:25And so, I don't know, like, you know, we always talk about this, like, what does Todd Downing have to
06:31gain?
06:32He has more to lose than he does to gain.
06:34What does he have to lose?
06:35Because if, let's say...
06:37Well, I guess in the immediate, like, with immediacy, he's going to let the Dolphins know ahead of Sunday that
06:44he's concerned about AJ Brown.
06:45No, no, I'm saying, what does he have to lose by saying what he said?
06:47Because let's say AJ Brown goes to IR next week for the knee injury.
06:52That looks really bad that your position coach said, oh, he's fine.
06:57And look what we did with the Red Sox.
06:59There's new testing that you can perform.
07:01You can have a million outs.
07:02There's a new MRI that saw something that they didn't previously see.
07:05Curtis, we went through this, like, the whole season with Roman Anthony.
07:11If you come out with something as the team and it's not, and it's like, oh, he's...
07:16They're doing the opposite of Roman Anthony.
07:18No, but Curtis, you're missing the point.
07:20Phil Perry, if he says something, it's no big deal if he gets it right or if he gets it
07:24wrong.
07:24It's more opinion-based.
07:25Yes.
07:26Whereas for Todd, a wide receivers coach, that's professional information, in my opinion.
07:31Like, I would take a coach over a media personality.
07:35Despite all the respect in the world for Phil Perry, I'm with Wiggy on this.
07:40Like, Phil Perry can say how he feels about A.J. Brown, whereas if you're asking the wide receivers coach,
07:45you're hoping that he's giving you a real medical answer.
07:48Right.
07:48Because if something's the problem, then we get into this, like, oh, my...
07:51Why were you not honest with everybody a week ago when you said you thought he was fine?
07:56Right.
07:56Because we're approaching the trade deadline, and we didn't want to tell other teams
08:00that we were really going to be out our number one receiver.
08:02There's a million things you could get.
08:04I don't even...
08:04I didn't even think this was a controversial thing.
08:06Well, it's just so...
08:07You guys jumped out my throat before I even finished a sentence about Phil Perry.
08:10I don't think it's controversial.
08:11I just have a different opinion than you.
08:13Yeah, I just think I'm with, like...
08:15What did Todd Downing have to do with what Phil Perry said?
08:16No, but this is the same thing to, like, the Roman Anthony thing.
08:19When the organization...
08:20What does Roman Anthony have to do with what Phil Perry said?
08:22Because when the organization comes out and says something, and then that's not true,
08:28it is going to get dragged for miles and miles.
08:31And it pisses off the player.
08:34It pisses off the player, the fans, everything.
08:36If Phil Perry says something, you know what?
08:39And whether he's right or wrong, if he's wrong, it's not a big issue.
08:43We move past it.
08:44He goes, ah, you know, my sources might not have been completely right.
08:48Curtis, can I ask you, are you concerned?
08:50One to ten.
08:51What's your concern level on A.J. Brown?
08:53My concern jumped hearing Phil Perry say he was a nine.
08:56Okay.
08:57Because I know Phil Perry.
08:58I don't believe him to be anyone that is a bomb tosser, and that he said that made me
09:04alarmed.
09:05All right.
