00:00Hey, what's up? My name's J-Flip.
00:01What's up? It's Bula.
00:02I'm David.
00:03I'm Rob.
00:04Hey, this is Zach from The Revivalist.
00:05I'm Sigrid.
00:06Hi, my name's Amy Corbin.
00:08It's your girl, Taylor Parks, and I'm hanging out at the City Refinery 29 studio at Lollapalooza.
00:17The current state right now for women is changing.
00:20Women in general have had to fight so much harder to get to places of respect.
00:24There's still, like, a lot of progress that needs to be made with more women kind of getting into the
00:29industry and not feeling intimidated by it.
00:32It was all of these different things that I didn't realize would affect my success.
00:35I'm a young black woman, and I'm having to find my way, you know, in a world that we don't
00:41get it the easiest.
00:42Do we have any women at the table? No? All right, well, let's try and bring one to the table.
00:47It's about getting the same opportunities.
00:49I think it's really, really important that everyone who's working in this industry is thinking always ahead.
00:57There's no choice but to have, you know, so many more women who can explain their narrative from their perspective.
01:03We're finally starting to recognize and directly address some of the issues that have plagued women's attempts to be seen
01:11as equals and taken seriously and be a part of this community.
01:142019, we're seeing a lot of different change happening.
01:18It's really exciting. Women are starting to be heard more.
01:22Seeing so many more female artists and producers and so much more presence dominating.
01:28And I think that the music industry is looking very, very bright.
01:32We're just saying, look, I have something to say that's worth hearing.
01:36I have something valuable, and you guys are going to listen now.
01:39I feel like a lot of female musicians who are putting themselves out there would feel the same or have
01:43a similar story that someone inspired them, a female inspired them to do what they're doing.
01:48We have to be the change that we want to see.
01:51No matter what you're doing, be a student of the music business, be a student of songwriting, be a student
01:56of production.
01:57And I don't think that there's any way you could possibly go wrong.
