At this point, sitting down with Orange Is The New Black's Laura Prepon and Jason Biggs is a little tough. Clearly they aren't Alex Vause and Larry Bloom, but after spending hours consisting on nothing (and we do mean nothing) other than their story lines and drama, it's hard not to regard them with a little weariness. Which, obviously is not their fault. Or, it is, because both of them have so thoroughly shed the roles we previously associated them with — for Prepon, Donna on That '70s Show, and for Biggs, pie-loving Jim on American Pie — to take on their now-iconic roles in the runaway Netflix dramedy. Thankfully, however, the duo are nothing like their less-than-appealing fictional counterparts.

These two have one key thing in common, though: the '90s. Both of them rose to fame pre-millennium, and, in fact, have been friends for a long time — as Jason explains, he was almost cast in That '70s Show. My, think of how different everything would have been...

00:06Thank you guys so much for speaking with me.
00:08I was wondering, from each of your perspectives,
00:11who at this point deserves Piper?
00:13I don't know if any of them deserve any of them.
00:16I don't know if Piper deserves anyone.
00:18At this point, I think it's been pretty well established
00:20that all of these characters are going through some...
00:26They're flawed.
00:26They're complicated.
00:27And they have some shit to work out
00:30before I think they can settle down with anyone.
00:34Yeah, I think that's a diplomatic way of doing it.
00:36I was just going to say, that's very politically correct.
00:39So obviously, you know that this story has real biographical roots.
00:44And so we know that the real Piper and the real Larry are together.
00:48Do you see any reconciliation for them in the future?
00:51I love this show, and I love acting in this show.
00:54So for me, I have hope that Larry and Piper have some sort of future,
01:00because that means Jason might have some sort of future in the show.
01:04But the truth of the matter is, the show is its own thing.
01:08Liberties have already been taken for storyline reasons,
01:11and for the continuation of the show, you've got to fabricate some things.
01:14And so we'll see.
01:15I don't really know if that means that Larry and Piper necessarily have a future together.
01:20I mean, it's been a tricky thing thus far.
01:22The characters have all done really good jobs of shooting themselves in their own respective foot.
01:27That's very true.
01:28Yeah, that sounds like a through-line.
01:29Both of you guys have had a really long history in Hollywood.
01:32We came up together.
01:33Red Vigs?
01:34You know, preeps and I, preeps and I, when we were kids in this biz, when we were coming up.
01:39In the 90s.
01:39It's funny.
01:40Back in, remember those times?
01:42It was crazy.
01:42I mean, the 90s were fucking nutty.
01:45I mean, listen.
01:46Do you remember that time that we were doing cocaine?
01:49All that blow.
01:50All that blow.
01:51Off of, whose boobs were that?
01:54I thought it was her ass.
01:55Was it her ass?
01:56It was Dominique Swain.
01:58Dominique Swain.
02:00I can not believe you pulled that out.
02:02Right off of, I think I did it off of her tits and you were doing it off of her
02:06butt.
02:06Possibly.
02:07Anyway.
02:07I don't know.
02:07The 90s were fucking epic.
02:10Oh man, we had a blast.
02:11We were such hot shit back then.
02:13I just told Laura, and I guess you didn't know this, that I was up for that 70s show.
02:18Really?
02:19Yeah.
02:19Anyway, it's good to be back though, isn't it?
02:20Have you done anything to kind of like prepare the people who have not been around or been exposed
02:26to this as much?
02:28Because we have been doing this for a while and we know that there's always ebbs and flows,
02:33I always just try to really set a great example and you show up on time, you know your lines,
02:37you're respectful of your cast and crew.
02:39Weak by example.
02:40I try, yeah.
02:41She does.
02:42I mean, she's amazing.
02:43No, she's a pro.
02:44I mean, there's no question.
02:46Thanks, Big Z.
02:47Conversely, it's been fun for me to see these girls, a lot of whom are new to the business
02:53and this be their first sort of big project and it taking off in this amazing way.
02:57It's been really refreshing and awesome for me because let's be honest, you know, you
03:01do this long enough, you get a little like, you know, you get a little tainted by the
03:05whole thing.
03:06You get a little jaded and it's like, hey, you know what?
03:08This is really exciting.
03:09This is really, really awesome.
03:10You show up on set and Danielle and Uzo are sitting there and their energy is so incredible
03:15and they're just like, isn't this the greatest thing ever?
03:16And you go, oh yeah, this is the greatest thing ever.
03:19Awesome.
03:20Thank you guys so much.
