00:04Hey everyone, it's Taylor with Refinery29. One of the questions I get asked the most is how to do makeup
00:09so that you look more awake.
00:11So today I'm going to show you how to do that.
00:13Most people think that to look more awake with your makeup you're going to want to wear more than you
00:16normally would.
00:17But this isn't actually true. You're going to want to wear less.
00:20And the colors that you use should be a lot brighter than you would normally wear and have a lot
00:23more highlight in them.
00:25So I'm going to start out today with an illuminating foundation.
00:27And the one I'm going to be using is the Perfect Lumiere by Chanel.
00:32You can apply your foundation any way that you want, but I'm going to apply it with a brush today.
00:43And now we're going to go in with an illuminating skin brightener.
00:46Today I'm going to use the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector to add highlight to the cheekbones and down the bridge
00:51of the nose.
00:51This is going to lift the face up and draw attention to the eyes so that you don't look so
00:55droopy and tired.
00:57I'm just going to put this on the ends of my finger.
01:03You can definitely use a brush to do this, but I like to cheat.
01:06And we're going right up under the eye before we put concealer on.
01:12For concealer I'm going to use a moisturizing concealer by Tarte, which is called the Maracuja Creaseless Concealer.
01:18I really like this one.
01:19You've probably seen me use it before, but it's my absolute favorite.
01:25I'm just going to use this under the eye, right on top of where we put the illuminator.
01:38Now let's move on to blush.
01:40So I'm going to use a creamy, shimmery blush to add a little bit more dimension to the cheekbones.
01:45Today I'm going to be using the Elf All Over Color Stick, and I think this color is called Pink
01:49Lemonade.
01:49It's a really pretty, warm pink color.
01:52I'm just going to apply it with the ends of my fingertips.
01:57We want to do this a little bit higher up on the cheekbone.
02:01Normally you would concentrate the color on the apples of your cheek, but that's just going to drag the eye
02:04down on your face and make you look more tired.
02:07So by pulling the color up closer to your eye socket, you're going to look more awake and more lifted.
02:16Because we're layering a shimmery blush on top of a shimmery illuminator, it's just going to make us look really
02:22dewy.
02:23And ultimately really awake.
02:26Now let's talk about eyes.
02:28So because I'm so fair, I'm going in with a color that's really close to my natural skin tone,
02:31by just giving a little bit of definition.
02:33I'm going to be using the MAC Paint Pot in Groundwork.
02:37You can see this color is really neutral.
02:39I'm just going to apply this to my finger.
02:45Where I would normally put eyeshadow, up over the crease.
02:52This gives a really great contour without being too dramatic.
02:58I'm not going to put any eyeshadow under the eye, because that's going to be the first thing that people
03:02are going to notice.
03:02And it's just going to draw attention to any dark circles that you have, which are going to make you
03:06look even more tired.
03:08So try to not do any liner down there or any sort of color underneath the eye.
03:12So another trick to add a lot of brightening to the eye is to do a shimmery color on the
03:16inner corner.
03:17So today I'm going to use the Make Up Forever Aqua Shadow in number 30E.
03:21It's a really light shimmery champagne color.
03:24And I'm just going to put this on the inner corners here.
03:39So the most important step when you want to look more awake is to curl your eyelashes.
03:43So we're going to do that and apply a really volumizing mascara just to make our eyes pop.
03:52I'm going to use the Rimmel Scandal Eyes Curve Alert Mascara for this, which is really crazy.
03:59But since we're skipping eyeliner, it's going to give us a lot of definition close to the lash line.
04:08And the last thing for a bright eyed awake look is to do a light colored eyeliner on the inner
04:13waterline of your eyes.
04:14You've probably heard that white is the best option.
04:17But white can be a little bit harsh if you're not wearing too much other makeup.
04:20So today we're going to use a nude color on the inner rim.
04:23And I'm using the Laura Mercier Flawless Fix pencil in neutral.
04:41And now to lift the eye we're going to add a little bit of definition to the brows.
04:45You can use a pencil or powder, whichever you normally use on your brows.
04:48I'm going to be using the MAC eyeshadow in Espresso.
04:52I'm putting it in with an angled brush.
05:03Now let's do lips.
05:04So we're going to use a neutral peachy brightening lip gloss.
05:07I'm going to be using Peach Fizz by Avon.
05:09It's one of their glaze wear shine lip glosses.
05:16This is pretty reminiscent of my natural lip color.
05:19It's just a little bit of shine.
05:21Just to give the whole look a little oomph.
05:23So there you have a less is more morning makeup look.
05:26So you look more awake.
