00:00Newcastle United crashed out of the Carabao Cup after suffering a disappointing 3-1 defeat
00:07against Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Matthias Yassel's side were hoping to continue
00:16their Cup campaign but were punished for defensive mistakes and a lack of clinical
00:22finishing despite enjoying spells of attacking pressure. James Garner opened the scoring for
00:31Everton before Hayden Hackney doubled the host's advantage just before half-time and Newcastle
00:39struggled to respond after the break with Thierry Barry adding a third in the 69th minute following
00:47another well-worked Everton counter-attack. Dan Byrne grabbed a late consolation with a header but
00:56it proved too little too late as Newcastle's hopes of retaining the trophy came to an end. Here is
01:03some of the reaction after the match. Hi Matthias what were your what were your thoughts on on this
01:09evening's performance? We are of course disappointed with the result it's also a bit shocking at the
01:21moment because overall the game was not that bad but it's a bit the story of the season so far
01:28that
01:30in situation where it really counts we lack in in the clinical approach to to solve the situations just
01:41think about the first one you know this is again a no risk zone where we said clear the ball
01:47and nothing
01:49happens and a couple of seconds later you can see the goal out of nothing. The second one is also
01:57frustrating as in my point of view we deserve to have a penalty on the other hand and then you
02:04miss
02:04unit you missed that in a transition then to to defend their own box which is again for me
02:14difficult to accept we have clear rules then how to behave in in these matters and in the third one
02:23again a critical ball loss when you hit possession and the position is punishing you on that level
02:28pretty clear these are the things we need to learn quickly and on the other hand I think you all
02:34saw
02:35also the the game and the statistics we had many many occasions many many opportunities to score big
02:42chances as well and also in their box we need to be more clinical to get a different result and
02:49that
02:50makes us in general frustrated that that makes for sure also the fans frustrated and we need to avoid
02:56it in the future to have better results
