00:00Beyonce had bought a necklace off the floor.
00:02She wore it, like Danielle said, all over the world.
00:04On tour, in Coachella, at basketball games.
00:12Growing up, I loved fashion and was really into jewelry.
00:15And we actually learned how to make jewelry on our father's medical tools.
00:19He's a cardiologist, and Danielle had to one-up me since, you know, I started making jewelry.
00:24And she found his medical tools and taught herself wire work.
00:27But I ended up taking my first job at a company.
00:31They made men's neckties.
00:32The first time in my life I ever got fired.
00:34My sister was fired.
00:36And so...
00:37Perfect timing.
00:38Sometimes when you are forced to, you know, look for a new job or create something new,
00:43it gives you more guts to try.
00:48Danielle and I designed everything.
00:50All the jewelry is handmade in New York.
00:51We used Warofsky elements.
00:53We used vintage stones.
00:55We've just started making our own stones in Italy.
00:57So it's kind of a combination of materials.
01:00But it's very much also a combination of Danielle and my aesthetic.
01:04She tends to be a little bit more rock and roll, Bohemian inspired.
01:07I tend to be a little bit more classic.
01:09Even though we do have such different perspectives, we have such a strong middle ground that when
01:15she tweaks something of mine or I tweak something of hers, it is better.
01:18Like, we both always agree, like, oh, like, I didn't think of it like that.
01:21We're never offended.
01:21I think that...
01:22Yeah, so it is like a push and pull.
01:24And like Jody said, we really do push each other to create newness.
01:28We were actually at a meeting with our accountant, who's a dear friend, getting his advice.
01:32And he said, I think it's great what you guys want to do.
01:33And these few pieces look beautiful, but like, you're going to run out of money.
01:37You need to get sales.
01:38So Jody and I, from that meeting, called Bergdorf Goodwin Corporate and said, you know,
01:44we're in the area, can we just have five minutes of your time for some advice?
01:48And shortly thereafter, met with the buyer.
01:50She said, I get you guys.
01:52I see what you're creating.
01:53I think there's a real niche for it.
01:54And within the first couple months, we'd 100% sell through.
01:58And this Fashion Week, we partnered with Maybelline as the beauty sponsor.
02:02You know, we never really pat ourselves on the back and feel like we had made it.
02:06For a quick second, we're always excited about milestones or big accomplishments along the way.
02:11But I think that just fuels you more to do the next thing and
02:15push ourselves for the next step of the business.
02:20In any business, especially as a designer, you have to have thick skin.
02:24You know, it's not always roses and...
02:26Chocolate?
02:27Yeah, I don't know.
02:28Is that what it is?
02:29Whatever it is, it's not always...
02:31Unicorns.
02:32But I think at that point, you're so passionate and you're so excited that it doesn't feel like
02:37work done.
02:38It feels like you're embarking on this new journey that we got to do together.
02:42It's a constant struggle, I think, to find happiness in what you do and in your personal life
02:48and make sure that the two aren't taking away from the other.
02:51I think finding balance and making sure that you have sort of channels to release stress
02:57can make a big difference in making you the best version of you in any given circumstance.
03:02I think you'll have all the time.
