00:01Hey everyone, it's Taylor from Refinery29. One of our favorite looks on the runway last
00:05season was the Jason Wu Ombre Eye, so today I'm going to show you how to do it.
00:10Although the Ombre Eye looks like it can be complicated, it's pretty easy and only requires
00:14a couple of products. First, I'm going to start with the Lorac Behind the Scenes Eye
00:17Primer on the lid. And since this is a sheer formula, you don't really have to worry about
00:21getting it on too evenly.
00:26As an eye base, I'm going to go in with the Laura Mercier Kohl Pencil in Black Turquoise.
00:30This is going to pick up a lot of the green that you see in the final look. I'm just
00:36going
00:36to use this as a base, so we're just going to kind of get it onto the lid, not really
00:41caring where it is, because we're going to blend it out in a second with a brush. Make
00:47sure to just stay on the eyelid from the lash line to the crease. You don't want to go over
00:51the crease with this. So you're going to look a little crazy for a second. Then we're going
00:57to take a really stiff, dense brush and blend this color out up to the crease. I'm going
01:04to take a little bit of the color and go under the eye as well. If you get too much
01:10on it,
01:10you can pull a little bit off with a clean fingertip.
01:15So the color that they used on the runway was actually a MAC eyeshadow called Club. So
01:19I'm going to use this today to show you. This color is really, really interesting because
01:23when you look at it in the container, it almost looks like a shimmering green, but it's actually
01:27a brown matte shadow with green glitter in it. We're going to get a really cool sort of
01:32ombre effect when we put it on the eye. So using the same stiff bristle brush, we're going
01:36to pick up the color on either side of the brush, and then we're going to pat it onto
01:40the lid, not wipe it on, because we want it to almost look like a beetle's wing does,
01:44like sort of a two-dimensional look.
01:53And I'm going to take this color from the lash line to just above the crease almost, a little
01:59bit underneath. So once you've got the color placed on the lid, you're going to go in with
02:03a fluffier brush to put the color into the crease. This is where it gets kind of cool.
02:09Because this is actually a brown eyeshadow, when we blend it into the crease, it's going
02:13to appear brown. And that's how you get that ombre effect, going from brown down to the green.
02:23Now on the runway, they pulled it out so it was more of a severe cat eye, but that can
02:28look
02:28a little bit too dramatic. So for today, we're just going to do it more of a smoky effect
02:31on the eye by going just above the crease.
02:41Also on the runway, they used a thin liquid line to line the eyes, but to make this more
02:46wearable, we're going to use a black kohl pencil and just smudge it into the lash line.
02:50So I'm going to be using the Givenchy Magic kohl pencil in number one, which is black.
02:56I'm actually just going to lift the lid up and place the pencil right into the lash line.
03:10I'm actually going up under the eyelashes because this will give really good definition without
03:15getting too much drama added to the look. I'm going to finish the look off with the
03:21YSL Volume Effect Faux Cyl mascara. This is a volumizing mascara, so it's going to give
03:26us extra definition. You just want to get close to the lash line on this and pull out.
03:32We already have a lot of the definitions in the kohl pencil.
03:38So there's how you translate a dramatic runway look to a more wearable nighttime look.
