Searching For A World That Doesn’t Exist
Transcript
00:00Whatever you do at the crossroads, don't turn left.
00:04This is the first line in a book that Avery claims he did not write.
00:09Two weeks ago, a YouTube channel called Avery the Mayo uploaded a YouTube video titled
00:14Weird Book I Did Not Write, where he shows us a mine that supposedly he never built.
00:21Inside the mine is a chest that Avery did not place,
00:25and inside the chest is a book that Avery did not write.
00:30Inside the book is a very strange message.
00:34Whatever you do at the crossroads, don't turn left.
00:38Don't be fooled, it's listening.
00:41You can't outsmart it, it's listening to me.
00:44It's watching me.
00:45It isn't from this world.
00:47At the crossroads, don't turn left.
00:49At the crossroads, don't turn left.
00:52At the crossroads, don't turn left.
00:56At the crossroads, don't turn left.
00:59Over and over, followed by a sequence of numbers.
01:03And that's it.
01:05It seems impossible that a whole mine just appears in your world without your knowledge,
01:11but Avery explains in the description of the video that the laptop he's playing on is from a storage locker.
01:16It already had Minecraft installed, and this world already existed,
01:20but when Avery first loaded it up, it was just a normal world.
01:24He only now discovered this mine a few hundred blocks from his house.
01:28So, in that case, what is this book?
01:32The contents are strange, and it's not evident what they refer to.
01:36If anything, they just sound like some crazy rambling.
01:39But the numbers at the end are clearly some sort of code,
01:42so maybe we can solve it and figure out what this book is talking about.
01:47Except we can't.
01:49The numbers go higher than 26, so it's not any alphabetical code.
01:53There are four sections, not three, so it isn't coordinates.
01:57And in fact, there's not a single cipher that comes up as a good match for this code.
02:01If it is a code, it's unlike any code I've ever seen, and I wasn't able to decipher it.
02:07So, is that it? A strange, one-off YouTube video and a dead end?
02:12Not quite.
02:14Because for two frames, at the very end of the video,
02:17Avery's inventory flashes a random pattern of blocks.
02:22And this time, there is a code.
02:24Because taking the first letter of the name of every block,
02:27and capitalizing it if there is more than one, you get a string.
02:32A string that perfectly matches the length of a Google Drive link,
02:36that when you enter, takes you to a folder.
02:39And this is where the true mystery begins.
02:42The mystery of a Minecraft world that doesn't exist.
02:51Opening the video named Footage 1,
02:54we can see a player in the exact same spot Avery was in the last video.
02:58Except now, he has way more items than he had last time.
03:02Presumably, this is from his house,
03:04and he's come to use this mine in survival as part of this world.
03:08The book is now gone from the chest,
03:10but it could be that Avery just burned it because it creeped him out.
03:13Or it's just this book in his inventory.
03:16Regardless, Avery lines up with the other strip mine,
03:19and begins to start a new one into the wall.
03:21But when he does,
03:22he finds this.
03:30Nothing weird, it's just a cave,
03:33and Avery walks in to begin exploring,
03:35until he stops,
03:37and sees this.
03:43It's hard to make out,
03:44but as he walks closer,
03:46we can see what it is.
03:47Moss.
03:48And grass.
03:49This is immediately a red flag,
03:51because this kind of terrain does not generate in caves.
03:55Avery checks underneath it,
03:56but there's nothing else either.
03:58And when he runs back to grab his torches,
04:00he notices yet another patch of moss in the corner of the cave.
04:03Again, not natural,
04:05but not leading anywhere either.
04:07It's only when he heads back down the cave does he see it.
04:10A tree.
04:11Avery approaches the clump of greenery,
04:13and there it is.
04:15A tree unlike any other oak tree in the entire game.
04:18Whatever this is,
04:20it isn't normal.
04:21Avery backtracks a bit,
04:23and we get a better look at this shrub,
04:25for lack of a better word.
04:26And after some hesitation,
04:28and circling around it,
04:29Avery decides to try mining the tree.
04:33And he does.
04:34With no problem.
04:35It looks just like a normal tree.
04:37Except normal trees don't generate underground.
04:40And it's not the only one.
04:42As Avery goes deeper and deeper into the cave,
04:45he passes larger and larger patches of greenery,
04:49coming across more shrubs,
04:51and even more trees.
04:52And even more moss.
04:54He pauses to talk at one point,
04:56but instead of commenting on the trees,
04:58he brings up something else.
04:59It's weird.
05:00We've only seen stone.
05:02And I guess he's right.
05:03The walls of this cave don't have any diorite,
05:05granite,
05:06andesite,
05:07or ores,
05:07but come on,
05:08there's a bigger elephant in the room here.
05:10At some point though,
05:11Avery's wish gets granted,
05:13and the cave turns into terracotta,
05:15tough,
05:16and deep slate.
05:16The greenery gets larger and larger,
05:19with the trees growing bigger and bigger.
05:22Until finally,
05:23Avery reaches the end.
05:44Avery stops for several long seconds,
05:48just taking everything in.
05:49The room is a giant cave of green,
05:52with strange,
05:53unnaturally large trees,
05:55forming a staircase on the back wall.
05:57The floor is covered in a massive field of moss,
06:00scattered with the strange trees we saw earlier.
06:03Avery slowly heads down the cavern wall,
06:06being careful not to take too much damage,
06:08while maneuvering his way to the bottom.
06:10He looks around in awe,
06:12as he explores the chamber.
06:13And from closer up,
06:14we can see a tunnel right between the massive tree gates.
06:18Avery searches around the trees for a few minutes,
06:21seemingly mesmerized by the build.
06:24And we can see that these gates are made of trees,
06:26stacked on trees,
06:28stacked on trees,
06:29made of spruce,
06:30mud,
06:31and oak.
06:32But the question here is obvious.
06:34What is this place?
06:36This kind of terrain,
06:37obviously,
06:38doesn't generate naturally,
06:40so who made it,
06:41and how does it just appear in Avery's world?
06:44Well,
06:45if there's any answer to that question,
06:47it's through this tunnel.
06:49Because finally,
06:50Avery decides to stop sightseeing,
06:53and heads down the tunnel at the center of the room.
06:56Avery walks through the mudbrick tunnel,
06:59turning to glance behind him every few steps.
07:02But of course,
07:03nothing is there.
07:04The world is set to single player.
07:05At least,
07:06it seems that way.
07:09Until this happens.
07:14Something is wrong.
07:15It's almost impossible to notice,
07:18but at the far edge of the tunnel,
07:19the first pair of torches have suddenly been wiped out.
07:22Avery stares for a few seconds,
07:24and continues walking.
07:29Another pair of torches is gone.
07:33I'm not scared of torches turning off.
07:42And then another.
07:44I don't know what kind of practical joke this is.
07:50But I already heard you in the-
08:10I'm not scared of a game.
08:14I'm not scared of a game.
08:26I'm not scared of a game.
08:57I don't know why.
08:58I just jumped down.
09:00I wasn't scared, but I felt compelled.
09:07I've never felt like that in my life.
09:13What is going on here?
09:15Things just went from strange to incredibly creepy in a matter of seconds.
09:20This doesn't just happen on a normal world, but Avery did say he found this world on a computer he
09:26got from a storage locker.
09:27So maybe this is just a world that the old owner of this computer created, and it's just some strange
09:33adventure horror map.
09:35Case closed.
09:36Except it's not.
09:38Because the video files aren't the only thing in this Google Drive folder.
09:42If you remember, there's also this PDF.
09:45And opening it, we see this.
09:48My exploration into a strange tunnel I found in my Minecraft world.
09:52I've been playing this world for a while and just discovered this.
09:56This is my documentation of the search.
09:58Notably, when I installed Minecraft, this world came pre-created.
10:02Always thought that was a little strange, but I'm not really sure.
10:05This seems okay enough, but remember what Avery said earlier.
10:10He found this computer in a storage locker with Minecraft installed.
10:14Not, he installed Minecraft and this world was there.
10:17Admittedly, it's a pretty small difference, but still, why the conflicting stories?
10:22Something you may have also noticed that I can't explain is why Avery's name is now censored.
10:29He wasn't censored in the previous videos, but now he's both hidden his name and changed his skin.
10:35Almost like he's hiding from something.
10:38But there's still a lot more of this footage, and if you want to figure out what's happening in this
10:43world,
10:43why it exists, and what it has to do with Avery, we have to keep watching.
10:48As Avery runs from whatever it is that's hiding in this world.
10:54Avery says he has to keep moving, even if he doesn't exactly know why.
10:58And the only way to go is down.
11:01Avery takes a leap into the giant pool of water before him and swims down into a junction of tunnels.
11:07After some hesitation, he burrows himself in the left wall for air before swimming down the left tunnel.
11:13He continues to navigate through the dark water, the tunnel getting narrower and narrower, with no end in sight.
11:24Until it opens, into a giant cavernous room with just enough space at the top to get a bit of
11:29air.
11:30When Avery descends again, we can see tunnel openings sprawling across the walls.
11:35Avery scans around.
11:36There's no marker of where to go, just tunnels upon tunnels as far as the eye can see.
11:42And then he hears it.
11:47The same sound as when the whispers played previously.
11:50Avery rushes to dig into the wall, and as he blocks himself in, we can hear the whispers again.
12:02Quieter, but still there.
12:05As if they're passing by him.
12:07When the coast is clear, Avery digs out.
12:10But now what?
12:12He has no choice but to gamble on a tunnel and hope it's correct.
12:16He scans the walls again.
12:17No obvious sign of which one to pick.
12:20So finally, he rolls the dice.
12:28The tunnel leads to another junction.
12:30And again, after a slight hesitation, Avery goes left.
12:35The tunnel continues.
12:39Getting narrower.
12:43And narrower.
12:48And narrower.
12:54Until finally...
13:07He finds himself in the oasis.
13:12Avery looks around the room.
13:15Strangely, almost peaceful.
13:17He's in the middle of a square pond, flanked on all sides by the same uncanny trees.
13:23He stares off at the water for a second, before towering up and getting a good look around.
13:28Nothing but trees as far as the eye can see.
13:30For a moment, he pauses.
13:37Before something snaps.
13:38And he crafts a boat to get to the center of the lake.
13:41Without hesitation, he dives down into the tunnel and plugs up the hole.
13:45He makes another trip for good measure, plugging it even further.
13:48If this thing comes through here again, it has to break that.
13:52But I need to explore.
13:53He sails back to the edge of the lake.
13:55What I can't avoid doing is loading the chunk.
13:59Avery chops a few trees and crafts a hopper with the spare iron in his inventory.
14:03His plan is simple.
14:05Set a trap for the thing following him.
14:07But wait, did I miss something?
14:09Because how does he know that something is following him?
14:12Sure, those torches turned off.
14:14And yeah, we heard those noises before.
14:16But there's actually an even stronger piece of evidence I haven't mentioned.
14:20Remember when Avery said this?
14:22I already heard you in the cave.
14:24Well, it took me a second to figure out what exactly he meant.
14:27But then I heard this.
14:33It's almost impossible to make out.
14:36But on a few separate instances, while Avery was walking in that original cave,
14:40he would randomly pause for a second or two.
14:43And now we know why.
14:45He was listening.
14:47Every time he paused, for just a brief moment,
14:50you could hear footsteps on the stone behind him.
14:57Stopping just a fraction of a second too late to be quiet.
15:01But okay, if something is somehow really following Avery in a single player world,
15:06how can he stop it or at least get it to reveal itself?
15:09Well, that's exactly what he's doing right now.
15:12Like he said, he needs time to look around and explore this world.
15:16But while he's gone, anything can just swim through the hole
15:19and replace the blocks to make it look like nothing happened.
15:23But if Avery turns down his render distance and puts items in this hopper,
15:27if he then goes far enough away and unloads the chunk,
15:30the only way for the hopper to be empty when he returns
15:34is if something loaded the chunk while he was gone.
15:38And then, whatever was following him would be exposed.
15:42The trap is set.
15:44Now, it's time to explore.
16:15Avery walks through the tree.
16:17Avoiding the lake so as to not load the chunk.
16:19Every inch of this place looks exactly the same.
16:22The same gray floor.
16:24The same strange trees.
16:26Everywhere he looks, there's nothing.
16:30Until, just in the corner of the screen, there's a sign.
16:34But it's hard to spot, and Avery doesn't seem to see it,
16:38and he keeps walking.
16:39Then he pauses.
16:41Interesting.
16:42That's the third sign we've seen so far.
16:46What?
16:47Where?
16:47Third sign?
16:48I've only seen this one.
16:50But, it turns out, he's right.
16:52Going back and re-watching the footage,
16:54just barely hidden in the corners of the screen,
16:57are two other signs Avery crossed earlier in the recording,
17:01though he gave no indication at the time that he noticed them.
17:04Avery goes back to all three signs.
17:07All of them are blank, so I don't know what to make of it,
17:10but Avery seems to be satisfied, and he explains why.
17:13These signs all seem to point to one place.
17:16Both of these angled ones point in the same direction.
17:19And, he's right.
17:21If you line up a coordinate grid with the location and rotation of the signs,
17:25you get this.
17:26So, he's right, all of them point a certain way,
17:29and if you trace out their intersection, it hits one specific point.
17:33He also pulls off this brilliant move, which you rarely see from these protagonists,
17:38by turning the difficulty to peaceful, because he ran out of food.
17:41Absolutely genius.
17:42But, with that said, he returns to the lake to check on his contraption.
17:46And, nothing showed up.
17:48Items are still flowing out of the hopper,
17:51which would be impossible if anything had loaded the chunk.
17:54Avery tells us exactly this.
17:56Nothing came through.
17:58Not to mention, the blocks are still in the same position Avery placed them to plug the hole.
18:02Now that he's shaken off whatever was following him,
18:05Avery sails back, presumably to find the intersection points of the signs.
18:09But, before he does that, he opens up chat and says this.
18:15Something is here.
18:17What?
18:18How?
18:19Why is Avery saying that?
18:21Why isn't he sending it in chat?
18:23What did he see?
18:25I don't know if it can hear me.
18:29But I'm not taking any chances.
18:32The grass block.
18:34When Avery left the chunk, he didn't just set one trap for the entity.
18:37He set two.
18:38Without mentioning anything to us, he placed a grass block next to a block of dirt.
18:43In Minecraft, grass can't spread if the chunk isn't loaded.
18:47The only way that this block is now grass,
18:50is if something other than Avery loaded this chunk.
18:53I'm not scared.
18:54But my gut says to keep moving.
19:09Maybe I am scared.
19:32The other sign was pointed head on.
19:34I've failed you so many times.
19:41I committed so many crimes.
19:46And I was pretty sure in myself.
19:55You gave me reasons to be somebody else.
20:02Baby, I'm home again.
20:11I thought that I could run away.
20:15Avery walks through a tunnel.
20:18A tunnel which quickly turns into a maze.
20:23And slowly but surely, dead end after dead end.
20:33Avery navigates through it.
20:36To be somebody else.
20:38To be somebody else.
20:39It's alright.
20:43Baby, here I am.
20:46I was lost.
20:50Now I'm found again.
20:54It's alright.
20:58Baby, here I am.
21:01It's alright.
21:10Avery is clearly smart.
21:12Smart enough to set a trap.
21:14And smart enough to set a backup.
21:17But whatever this thing is that's following him,
21:20it's smart too.
21:22Smart enough to block up the tunnel it entered from.
21:25Smart enough to refill the hopper with items after loading the chunk.
21:29Smart enough to hide its presence.
21:32This world seems to be guiding Avery somewhere.
21:35The whispers in this tunnel coercing him to enter the cave.
21:39The signs pointing to the secret entrance under the tree.
21:42Whatever this world is, it's leading Avery.
21:46But to what?
21:48We don't know.
21:49All we do know is that he isn't alone.
21:53And finally, Avery exits the maze.
21:56Into another giant room with what looks like a cipher above a door.
22:01With three levers right in front of it.
22:04Avery stares up at it.
22:05Says he'll need a pen and paper.
22:08And blocks up the tunnel where he came from.
22:10The footage ends with him staring up at the code.
22:13Deep in thought.
22:17From what I can see, the code atop the doorway looks something like this.
22:22It doesn't immediately remind me of anything, and plugging it into a cipher decoder gives me no ideas either.
22:28Running each of the candidate ciphers just gives gibberish every single time.
22:33Whatever this code is, there's unfortunately no way that I, or Avery, can solve it.
22:38The second half of the footage picks up with 17 minutes of just staring at the wall.
22:44And then...
22:47He gets it.
22:48Okay, I guess it was solvable.
22:51Avery says it's a good poem, but doesn't actually reveal what it said.
22:55Only that it uses cipher stacking.
22:57A technique where two ciphers are layered one on top of the other to make a code almost undecipherable.
23:03How Avery actually solved it with a pen and paper is beyond me,
23:08but the puzzle isn't over yet.
23:10There's still this gate, which Avery suspects is some sort of combination lock.
23:15But instead of a pen and paper, his solution this time is a bit more...
23:19How do I put this?
23:21Efficient.
23:41And with that, he's...
23:43Wait.
23:44Who's Durlord 3?
23:46For the first time in this footage, Avery's sensor bar lingers for just a second too short,
23:52and we get a glimpse of the name.
23:54This isn't Avery's name.
23:56This isn't Avery's skin.
23:58Maybe the reason that we got two different stories about where this world came from
24:02is because the player we've been watching this entire time isn't Avery at all.
24:07But if that's the case, then who is this?
24:10The world at the beginning is clearly the same one that Avery was playing on.
24:14So what's going on here?
24:16If it is Avery on an alt account,
24:18why the conflicting stories in the description and the document?
24:22And if it's not Avery,
24:24then who is this other person
24:26and why are they claiming that this is their world they found?
24:29I genuinely just don't know,
24:32but the only way to find out is to keep watching,
24:35as Durlord walks through the tunnel after the puzzle
24:38and finds himself in the village.
25:20So what's going on here?
25:29So what's going on here?
26:08So what's going on here?
27:40This village is strange. It's clearly abandoned, if the cobwebs and literal holes in the roof didn't make that obvious,
27:48and all the chests and containers have nothing inside of them.
27:52There's also an interesting amount of yellow in the carpets, beds, and flooring.
27:57But wherever Durlord looks, he can't find anything of interest, no lead on where to go or what to do
28:04from here.
28:05The fountain and statue in the town center is by far the most eye-catching decoration here, but like we
28:11can see, it too is empty. There's no path to take from there.
28:15So, is this the final area then? The final answer to what's been going on with this world and what's
28:23been following him?
28:24I'm not sure, and clearly Durlord isn't either since he keeps looking around for anything out of the ordinary, anything
28:31that might give him a clue of where to look next.
29:14I'm not sure.
29:44I'm not sure, but I'm looking at it.
31:39I hate it here.
31:40These idiots are insufferable.
31:42They think that devotion will save them.
31:45Rest assured, it will not.
31:48Not that it will do them any good to believe that anyway.
31:51The ones who realized it pretend they didn't.
31:53But it doesn't help that there are some of them who truly believe they'll be saved.
31:57The king is coming, Maya.
31:58If anything, I wager that their king is already here.
32:02It's watching me write this.
32:04I don't particularly care.
32:06I just want this to be done with.
32:07The sooner I can leave, the better.
32:14I don't know why anyone is surprised to find that out.
32:17This is exactly what they were hoping for.
32:23I'm going.
32:24I'm leaving this here in the rare case someone finds it.
32:27If you have found this, I implore you, turn back.
32:33Disconnect.
32:33Forget about this world.
32:35It's not for you.
32:36If you've come here, you must be curious.
32:38I know you must want to continue onwards.
32:41So I know that this is a heavy ask.
32:44But please, do not go any further.
32:48For your own good, do not.
33:18For your own good, do not.
34:09For your own good, do not.
39:16Don't be fooled.
39:18You can't outsmart it.
39:20It's listening to me.
39:22It's watching me.
39:23It isn't from this world.
39:25At the crossroads, don't turn left.
39:27At the crossroads, don't turn left.
39:34And the footage ends.
39:38It's right there.
39:40It's right there.
39:40It's right there.
40:08That was in the black square, that was in the black square.
40:10That was in the original footage.
40:10Whatever is behind that black square was enough to drive probably the smartest protagonist I've
40:16ever seen into running for his life.
40:18Something that a whole village of people was trying to summon.
40:22Something that this entire world has been hiding.
40:25A king?
40:26What does that even mean?
40:27I don't know what to tell you, but I can tell you one thing.
40:31The code at the end of the book?
40:33Now with this footage, we can solve it.
40:35Each number corresponds to one slot in Durlord's inventory.
40:39One here, and 36 here.
40:42Take the first letter of each item, or whatever number is indicated after the dash.
40:47From that, we can get this.
40:49Run, Avery.
40:51It's here.
40:52Durlord was giving one last warning, hoping that whatever was following him wouldn't see.
40:58But how?
40:59How would he possibly know that Avery would find this world?
41:03There's no way for him to know who Avery even is.
41:06Whatever he saw behind those doors, whatever he knows about this world now, we may never
41:11understand.
41:12But one thing is certain.
41:14Whatever was coming for him, is coming for Avery next.
41:19This isn't over.
41:36Eventually the given.
41:46Avery that didn't hurt was the other one.
