00:02Hello world.
00:04A big name, former journalist, with some big opinions.
00:07I don't want to sound like Donald Trump, but let's make Hobart greater again.
00:11The newly elected Lord Mayor has promised to lead a kinder council.
00:15We had a mayor who thought she was the boss. Now I am not the boss.
00:19Mr Woolley says he's a smaller liberal.
00:22He's waiting for the final composition of council,
00:24but is eyeing off the cap on rates increases and shrinking the operating budget.
00:29It's $200 million from 26,000 taxpayers, or ratepayers. That's a lot of money.
00:37At the moment, the council he will lead is projected to consist of eight men and just one woman.
00:43Women didn't vote for women. It's extraordinary.
00:46Other new mayors toppled big name incumbents.
00:49In Bernie, Giovanna Simpson dethroned Teenie Brumby.
00:52Former nurse Drew Jenner took down Brendan Blomley in Clarence.
00:56West Coast voters opted for Lindsay Newman to replace Shane Pitt.
01:00And in the Derwent Valley, former State MP Casey Farrell defeated Michelle Dracoulis.
01:05Look, I think that there were a lot of kind of issues that were broiling up in the Derwent Valley
01:10where people were upset with the way that council was handling those issues.
01:15He's promised to re-examine some controversial decisions,
01:18like closing the Bushy Park pool and changing the operator of the new Norfolk market.
01:23I want to re-open the book on all of those things, have a look at them, understand why those
01:27decisions were made.
01:29In Kingbra, former Deputy Mayor Joe Westwood is back after four years off.
01:33This time in the top job.
01:35I've really missed being part of that decision making about Kingbra's future.
01:40We're a really fast-growing municipality and I think it's critical that we get things right.
01:45Tasmanians now know who their 29 mayors will be, but the final make-up of many councils is still uncertain.
01:52The Electoral Commission hopes all candidates will know whether they've been elected or not by the end of Tuesday.
01:57We'll see you next time.
01:57We'll see you next time.
01:58Bye.
01:58Bye.
01:59Bye.
