They make their 6-PACK PICK’EM selections on 95.7 The Fan. Bryson breaks down a Georgia-Florida game that moved to Atlanta this year, all three agree on one college game, and Paul has had enough of Texas Tech booster Cody Campbell.
Who’d you take? Drop your picks in the comments, and find out how we did on Tuesday’s BEERS & BAD WORDS.
Area 45 is Houston’s only live and local evening sports radio show, and a new 6-PACK PICK’EM drops every Friday night. Watch live on the 95.7 The Fan YouTube channel and subscribe so you don’t miss the next one.

00:00Six-pack pick'em! Six best games of the sports weekend, and then we pick'em against the spread.
00:08Let's start with the game where two people have a vested interest in this one.
00:14Bryson Scruggs behind the glass is wearing a Georgia Bulldogs t-shirt.
00:18Yes, he is.
00:19A Brock Bowers jersey, to be specific.
00:22A jersey.
00:23I am not currently wearing any Florida Gators colors.
00:28If I ever have a bachelor party, and I don't know if I'm ever going to get married now,
00:32but that's neither here nor there.
00:33Oh, come on. Stop it.
00:36Georgia is a 12.5-point favorite in the world's largest outdoor cocktail party
00:45against 17th-ranked Florida, who, of course, beat Texas not too long ago.
00:5012.5 points.
00:53Let's start.
00:53That's a lot.
00:54Let's start with the Georgia man behind the glass.
00:57I feel like you've got a little bit of expertise on this, even if you are perhaps a bit biased.
01:01What's going on?
01:02What's going down in this game?
01:03How are you picking it against the spread?
01:04This one's really interesting because this one's typically played in Jacksonville,
01:07but it's actually going to be in Atlanta.
01:09So what's typically the largest outdoor cocktail party in Mercedes-Benz
01:13will be the largest indoor cocktail party.
01:16I forgot they're renovating the stadium.
01:17Yeah, at least for this year.
01:19So that's a little interesting, changing up the venue for this matchup.
01:23That's not in Florida now.
01:24It's in Georgia.
01:25This is BS.
01:26This is a home field advantage.
01:27I'm glad you shared this with me.
01:29I'm glad you went first.
01:30I didn't even know this.
01:31Is the fix in?
01:32Yes.
01:33Is the fix in?
01:34Keep going, Bryson.
01:35Sorry about that.
01:35So that might be why this spread's climbing up to a 12 and a half point favorite for Georgia.
01:41But I'm rolling with the dogs on this one.
01:43Give me the dogs because the key number in this one, Jaden Ball running back for the Florida Gators.
01:51In the two losses that the Gators have, he has combined for a total of 72 yards.
01:56So there's a formula, focus on ball, shut him down.
02:00Quarterback Aaron Filo is going to be the starter for this one, which actually bodes well for the Bulldogs.
02:05Because if it was Trammell Jones Jr., the backup for the Florida Gators, he's an athletic guy.
02:10He's pretty mobile.
02:11He's super talented.
02:12And the only quarterbacks who've given the dogs defense fits, Keelan Russell of Alabama and Auburn's Byron Brown.
02:19So Aaron Filo does not fit that type of profile.
02:22So the dogs should not have any worries facing the stationary passer.
02:26But you know Buster Faulkner, offensive coordinator for the Gators, is saving.
02:30He's got some tricks up his sleeve.
02:31He's been waiting to bust out against the dogs.
02:34So I expect their best shot.
02:35But give me the Bulldogs in this one.
02:37This is a great breakdown, Bryson.
02:38And as somebody who follows the Gators, I don't like Aaron Filo.
02:43I was hoping that Trammell Jones was going to replace him actually permanently.
02:47Nothing against Filo.
02:48I think he's solid.
02:49But I don't think there's much upside there.
02:51I think he's like perfect as a game manager.
02:53And listen, you know, you're not one of the big boys in the SEC.
02:56You're not winning with a game manager quarterback.
02:58So I am with Bryson.
02:59I think George is going to cover here as much as I hate to admit it.
03:02I can't put any better than Bryson did.
03:04Can't break it out any better than that.
03:06Bulldogs to cover.
03:07Florida is tough to figure out.
03:10And they're going to probably be that all year long.
03:13The defense is sometimes missing.
03:15But that running game, when it is at its peak, holy smokes.
03:19They, between Baugh and the backup running back, they are really good one-two tandem.
03:25Other college football game tomorrow.
03:27A Big 12 matchup.
03:30Number 22, Arizona is a three and a half point favorite at number 13, Texas Tech.
03:36I'm going to lead off with this one.
03:38I'm so sick of Cody Campbell.
03:41F Cody Campbell.
03:42How about that?
03:44See that loser getting mad at some weekend guy on the radio in Lubbock because he had the audacity to
03:52say,
03:52hey, be a little bit less online.
03:55Hey, Cody, remember when you tried to bribe the attorney general of the state of Texas so that you're some
04:00rando transfer quarterback from Cincinnati might be able to play?
04:05Oh, he's the first or whatever.
04:07Whatever.
04:07Whatever.
04:08Cody Campbell's a dork.
04:10F Texas Tech.
04:11And I hate saying that because I love Texas Tech fans.
04:13They're fun.
04:14But when I make my picks in college football, I always do it based off of vibes and generally, like,
04:20unless Bryson lays out a really good explanation.
04:23All right.
04:23So, F Texas Tech.
04:25Go Zona.
04:26I hate Cody Campbell right now.
04:27Oh, my goodness.
04:28I think he's a soft, soft boy.
04:29Yeah, we're going to land at the same result, but not using the same evidence to arrive to that conclusion.
04:36I'm rolling with the Wildcats because Arizona, they're the ninth most prolific passing offense in America.
04:42They throw for about 310 yards per game.
04:46Meanwhile, Texas Tech, their pass defense ranks 126th in the country.
04:51They can't guard anybody.
04:52And I'm also a little unsure because I saw in the reports they're going to be playing two quarterbacks.
04:58Hammond and Tommy Castellanos are both going to do this two-quarterback system.
05:03Exactly.
05:03And I'm already skeptical on him.
05:05Yeah.
05:06He stinks.
05:07So, I think there's just a lot of disaster brewing over there in Lubbock.
05:12So, give me the Arizona Wildcats in this one.
05:14Yeah, I'm going to join you guys.
05:15Bear down.
05:16My best friend is a Wildcat alum, and I hear a lot about the Wildcats all the time, whether it
05:20be football, basketball, or even baseball.
05:22So, yeah, I'm going to go Wildcats on this one.
05:25Okay.
05:26Let's get to the NFL game.
05:28Yeah.
05:30Sunday, the Ravens are three-point dogs on the road at a game Sean Pendergast will be attending in Buffalo
05:38for the Bills host.
05:39A lot of people think the Bills are the class of the AFC, especially with the Chiefs losing Sunday night
05:44football against the Seattle Seahawks.
05:48This is a tricky game because, I mean, Lamar Jackson is going to be out there, I guess.
05:55They say he's going to play.
05:58Is he really ready, though?
06:00That's what I wonder.
06:01Is he actually ready?
06:03The Bills' defense is really bad.
06:05It's atrocious.
06:06By all metrics.
06:07It has been horrible.
06:08So, I'm going to take Baltimore here.
06:12I'm going to take Baltimore as the road dogs, but we'll see what Lamar Jackson's looking like in this game.
06:19What about you, Chris?
06:20You go second.
06:21Yeah.
06:22I think Lamar Jackson is too big of a question mark here.
06:26Even though the Bills' defense, it has been really bad.
06:31By some metrics, it is the worst in the league.
06:33But, you know, they got Josh Allen.
06:35They continue to win.
06:35So, I'm going to take them not knowing enough about how Lamar Jackson's going to look out there and how
06:42he's feeling.
06:43I'm going to take the Bills.
06:44Yeah.
06:45Give me the Bills, too.
06:45So, obviously, Lamar Jackson's a big question mark, but to exacerbate that question mark, Ioana, the guard out of Penn
06:53State, out for this game.
06:55And who do the Bills have on that defensive front?
06:57Ed Oliver, Deion Walker, Greg Russo.
07:01So, I think that Bills' front, while it's a porous defense overall, just matchup-wise, I think they can get
07:07after Lamar Jackson, who's not 100%.
07:09So, give me the Bills in this one.
07:11Okay.
07:12Next game.
07:14The National Football League.
07:16Our league.
07:17The league where the Houston Texans are struggling and it's driving me crazy.
07:21This is me filibustering because my computer screwed up for a second.
07:24The next game.
07:27The Minnesota Vikings.
07:29Three-point dogs on the road against the Detroit Lions.
07:33This is a fascinating game because, one, Vikings defense has been the best in the league.
07:38Yes.
07:39And it's not close.
07:40In most metrics, most of the important metrics, they are the best.
07:43I have no idea how they score points, though, because their offense is a mess with Kyler Murray.
07:50Meanwhile, you've got someone who literally could be the MVP of the league, Jared Goff, under center for the Lions,
07:57who are in their usual, hey, I mean, I respect them, but am I willing to call them a Super
08:06Bowl contender?
08:07But Jared Goff has not thrown an interception this year.
08:11And, you know, Goff's one of these players where he never is going to get the respect that he's probably
08:17earned at this point because of a variety of different things.
08:20Underachieving with the Rams, getting cast off essentially the way that he did.
08:23But I'm really fascinated with this game.
08:26And the NFC North, God, that is such a good division.
08:29The Vikings are the best defense in the league.
08:30You have the Packers suddenly hot again with Jordan Love.
08:34You've got the Lions offense, which has been really good.
08:37And then, not to mention, the Bears, who just traded for Jeffrey Simmons.
08:40The Bears.
08:41Might have the best running game in the league.
08:42And I don't know if you guys watched last Thursday's Thursday night game, but Caleb Williams was so good in
08:48that game.
08:49Man, what a tough division.
08:52This is a huge game.
08:53I have a tough time taking the Vikings seriously.
08:55I feel like I'm going to regret this.
08:57I know.
08:58I know.
08:59The only remaining undefeated at that.
09:01I know.
09:02So, let's not forget that.
09:04But, like, the reason that it's easy to forget that is because Kyler Murray's under center.
09:07So, I'm going to take the Lions here, but I'll probably end up being wrong.
09:11How about you, Chris?
09:11I got the Vikings.
09:13I am on the bandwagon.
09:16This might be the quietest 6-0 team, most under-the-radar 6-0 team I've seen in many years.
09:25Like, you just look up and it's like, oh, the Vikings are still undefeated.
09:29They're the only undefeated team in football, and they're doing it with defense.
09:33Because, like you said, Paul, how are they even scoring points with Kyler Murray a quarterback?
09:37How?
09:38How are they scoring points?
09:40Their offense is not very good.
09:41Guys have been hurt in and out of the lineup, yet they are 6-0, and they're going to go
09:467-0
09:46against the Lions.
09:47Because the Lions aren't very good.
09:49Last Boy Scout it.
09:51Just carry on the field.
09:53Just do the last Boy Scout thing.
09:54You see that movie?
09:55You know what I'm talking about?
09:56The first scene of the last Boy Scout, for those who don't know, it's just an absolutely ridiculous scene
10:01where a player has a gun and just, like, with the football in his hands and runs on the field
10:06and just shooting people.
10:07Just shooting everybody.
10:07Taking everybody out.
10:08Yeah.
10:09Anyway, that's a strategy for the defense.
10:11Anyway.
10:11It was something.
10:14Don't murder.
10:14I'm just kidding.
10:16So, Paul, you brought it up earlier.
10:19Jared Goff still hasn't thrown an interception.
10:20So, this matchup, we're looking at an unstoppable force versus an immovable object.
10:26The Vikings' plus-7 turnover margin leads the entire NFL.
10:30But Goff hasn't thrown a pick yet.
10:32So, something has to give.
10:34What's it going to give?
10:35That's a good question.
10:37You would think it's going to be that blitz that Jared Goff can't avoid.
10:41It's that Brian Flores aggressive style defense.
10:44But not so fast, my friend.
10:46Uh-oh.
10:46Uh-oh.
10:46Here we go.
10:48So, this is a reinvented defense that has Brian Branch back in the lineup.
10:53Last two games, it is a completely different defense than what it looked like in the previous games.
10:58So, I think that this Lions defense is going to do just enough because Kyler Murray hasn't shown us much.
11:04I think that's the margin.
11:06It's a wash between the strength of the Lions and the strength of the Vikings defense.
11:10That's a wash to me.
11:11I just give a slight edge to this new look Detroit defense compared to the Vikings offense.
11:16And that's the reason I'm going with the Detroit Lions at home.
11:19All right.
11:20Ooh.
11:21I love it.
11:21I love it.
11:22I love it.
11:23I love the work that Bryson's put into this, too.
11:25And I'm just like, yeah, F this guy.
11:27That's my rationale for picks.
11:30This guy, F Cody Campbell.
11:32By the way, F Cody Campbell, in case you didn't hear me earlier.
11:34That was a jerk move.
11:36Yeah.
11:36Trying to shoot down radio guys?
11:38Come on.
11:39He's a part-timer, and he literally just said, put your phone down, you loser.
11:43Goodness gracious.
11:44Oh, I've got a poor flattery picture of me.
11:46There aren't any.
11:47You're not an attractive man.
11:48You know, most of these guys don't want to be criticized by anyone.
11:51So, let alone a part-time weekend.
11:53Yeah.
11:53You know, they don't want to be criticized by anybody.
11:55Reason number 100 why Texas Tech is never going to be a serious program.
11:59Like, this is the guy that's running the show, and he's like, oh, the Big 12 thinks I'm weird.
12:03Yeah.
12:05Again, like, go get, go get.
12:07Never mind.
12:08I'm going to stop.
12:09Bring the tortilla tosses back.
12:10That'd be number one.
12:10They should bring those back.
12:12Yeah.
12:12Oh, you could buy anything.
12:13Cody Campbell, buy the ability to do the tortilla toss again.
12:17Goodness gracious.
12:17Anyway, sorry.
12:19Chiefs at Broncos.
12:20Kansas City, a one-and-a-half point favorite.
12:23Bo Nix finally looked good this past week.
12:26So, there's that.
12:27But, it's Bo Nix.
12:31And, it's a Chiefs team coming off of a game where they looked incredibly human, finally,
12:36against the Seattle Seahawks and that great defense of theirs.
12:40So, Chiefs a one-and-a-half point road favorite in Denver.
12:45I'm having a tough time with this one.
12:47So, Chris, I'm going to leave it off with you.
12:48Yeah, I'm going to throw it to you.
12:50You seem like you're not having a tough time.
12:52I'm not.
12:52I'm taking the Chiefs.
12:54I'm going to take Andy Reid over Sean Payton anytime.
12:57Doesn't matter.
12:58Twice on Sunday.
12:59Okay.
13:00Doesn't matter to me.
13:01I think the Chiefs are back.
13:03They are five-and-one now.
13:04They have not been the Chiefs team that we came to know over their Super Bowl runs, those
13:09three Super Bowls, and getting to another two.
13:12But, they're running the ball.
13:14And, they have been running the ball very well for most of the season.
13:18Except for Sunday.
13:19Yeah, except for that.
13:20But, that's one game.
13:22They got their one loss.
13:23I think they come back and they more than cover and beat the Broncos in Bronco land.
13:29I'm right there with you.
13:30Give me the Kansas City Chiefs in this one.
13:32I know that the Broncos are going to be hung up on what happened week one.
13:35I mean, they got their butts whipped by Kansas City.
13:38Of course.
13:38They already know that they need to come back with a better game plan.
13:40But, I'm still rolling with Kansas City.
13:42I know how terrible they looked against Seattle.
13:45But, you got to consider Rasheed Rice wasn't playing.
13:47They had a bunch of guys out of the lineup.
13:49It just, Mahomes had no help.
13:51All those guys are going to come back.
13:52We got Rasheed Rice back.
13:53The first time around, that was the breaking out party for Kenneth Walker.
13:58This man had 173 yards rushing.
14:01Yeah.
14:01And, Talanoa Hufunga is still out for the Broncos.
14:05So, I think we're going to see a lot of similarities from what we saw week one.
14:09So, give me the Chiefs.
14:10For the sake of being different, I'm going to take the Broncos here.
14:14I say this partly because, hey, guess who beat the Seahawks?
14:19With a bad performance from their quarterback, the Broncos.
14:24Give you that.
14:25So, there's that.
14:26And, also, this was such an embarrassing loss in the first game that happened earlier this year.
14:33The first game between the Chiefs and Broncos, Kansas City won 31-10 earlier.
14:38Yeah.
14:39I also, Chris, would take Andy Reid over Sean Payton every day, mainly because I think Sean Payton's a bit
14:45of a jackass.
14:47But, I think that Sean Payton is still a good coach.
14:52And, I think Denver found something on Sunday.
14:55And, look, Bo Nix, you never know what you're going to get.
14:58It's rolling the dice every single week.
14:59Yeah, he's a little up and down.
15:00I don't like that.
15:01But, I'm going to take Denver here just to be different.
15:04Mm-hmm.
15:05That's a good one.
