00:10Thousands of young people took to the streets across Europe as part of a protest movement
00:15demanding better education, lower cost of living and an end to mandatory military service.
00:25Less than a week before the November 3rd midterm elections, early voting in the United States
00:30surpassed 43 million ballots and nearly 10 million more than at the same point in 2022.
00:41In Syria, Israeli forces carried out new military raids in the southern territory.
00:53Hello and welcome to From the South.
00:55My name is Pablo Micheliche from the Telesur Studios in Caracas, Venezuela.
00:59We begin with the news, stay with us.
01:14Thousands of young people have taken to the streets across Germany this Saturday as part
01:19of a nationwide protest movement demanding better education, lower living costs and an end to
01:23compulsory military service.
01:25Demonstrations were planned in 34 cities organized by the Youth Initiative Gen Z-Regelt, which
01:32said it expected more than 180,000 participants nationwide.
01:37However, by Saturday afternoon, police have reported around 6,000 protesters in Berlin, Frankfurt
01:42and Munich, significantly below organizers' expectations for those three cities.
01:48Meanwhile, German authorities have been monitoring potential security risks, warning that extremist
01:54groups could attempt to exploit the demonstrations.
01:57Organizers have publicly rejected violence and insist their movement is focused on social demands.
02:03The mobilization comes amid growing youth-led protests across Europe, particularly in France,
02:08where demonstrations have also raised concerns over public services and economic conditions.
02:20And precisely in France, thousands of people, mostly young demonstrators, have taken to the streets across the country this Saturday
02:27as
02:28national-wide protests against rising living costs, deteriorating public services and government policies,
02:33in Paris, enter their third consecutive weekend.
02:36The demonstrations, which began with students demanding better schools conditions, have since expanded to include trade unions and members of
02:45the Yellow Vest movement, calling for action on economic hardship.
02:49Authorities have deployed 70,000 police officers and gendarmes across the country, following violent clashes, looting and damage to businesses
02:59during previous demonstrations.
03:01In Paris, authorities have imposed their restrictions on protest routes, while security forces remain on high alert as the mobilizations
03:09coincide with Halloween celebrations.
03:12The government has warned of a firm response to any public disorder.
03:16However, protesters continue to demand greater investment in education, improved public services and measures to ease the cost of living.
03:30We are here today at Port de Bagnolet to continue the mobilization that has been taking hold across the country
03:39for the past month, and which has intensified since October 17th.
03:44My comrades and I are here to establish a balance of power to force the government to back down on
03:50our demands, namely a comprehensive reform plan for education, not just higher education, but also high schools, which are facing
04:00very difficult conditions.
04:01We are also here to demand an end to selection for access to higher education, which includes ParCoursup, the admissions
04:10platform that is highly selective, particularly based on the students' high school background.
04:19We are here to demonstrate today for the third act.
04:23I think it's important to mobilize today.
04:26To be honest, I wasn't at the first two demonstrations.
04:30I don't live in the Paris region, but it's growing so much that it's worth coming out.
04:35And so obviously, we haven't forgotten the beginning of these struggles, which are for the high school students.
04:40They are, after all, our future.
04:43So we have to support them.
04:45We have to be here and today.
04:47I think it also reveals a broader social discontent.
04:53Meanwhile, in Spain, shops across central Barcelona are reinforcing their storefronts ahead of a new wave of demonstrations and possible
05:01unrest schedule for this Saturday.
05:03Retailers along Passage de Gracia, Plaza de Catalunya and other major shopping areas have installed wooden boards, metal panels and
05:11protective barriers to prevent damage and looting.
05:14The precautions followed violent incidents last weekend when groups of young people vandalized and looted businesses across the city, resulting
05:22in more than 120 arrests and at least 15 police officers injured.
05:26Meanwhile, Catalonia's regional police, the Mossos de Squadra, have launched a major security operation with several gatherings called through social
05:36media under the name Blokus.
05:38Authorities have also increased surveillance across public transport and suspended some traffic restrictions to facilitate police access.
05:46Despite the security measures, business associations are urging calm and encouraging shops to operate normally while acknowledging the possibility of
05:55further incidents.
06:04The UN Biodiversity Conference, COP17, concluded in Armenia after extended negotiations adopted the Jerevan pathway to accelerate implementation of global
06:142013 nature targets.
06:16Developing nations pushed for equitable resource mobilization, reaching a compromise to scale biodiversity funding to $30 billion annually despite deep
06:27divisions over Western contributions.
06:30Crucial decisions regarding corporate digital biodiversity contributions were postponed until COVID-18 in Quito, Ecuador, as systemic funding caps of
06:40$700 billion remained unresolved.
06:43Observers criticized the slow pace of global implementation, warning that current efforts fall drastically short of meeting crucial biodiversity targets
06:53to protect vulnerable ecosystems.
07:06Demonstrators remain gathered outside Poland's constitutional tribunal this Saturday following clashes over the pro-European government suspension of the Kurds'
07:14president.
07:15Three people were arrested while the Kurds' website went offline shortly after announcing the removal of peace-aligned Chief Justice
07:25Bogdan Shizkowi.
07:28Prime Minister Donald Tusk defended the measure as essential to restore judicial integrity after years of conservative control while opposition
07:38leaders called for mass public resistance.
07:40Conservatives' president Carol Navarrochi counseled an official trip to Senegal to return to Warsaw and subsequently called for urgent consultations
07:51with representatives of the parliamentary factions with aim of addressing the political situation and restoring constitutional order.
08:08And in Italy, Royal Police deployed water cannons against working-class demonstrators in Rome during a nationwide general strike against
08:17rearmament and austerity.
08:19Thousands marched through the capital as part of a nationwide mobilization called by grassroots reunions uniting workers, students and farmers.
08:30Tensions escalated near parliament as heavy security forces used water cannons and baton charges to repress demonstrators.
08:38Protesters denounced stagnant wages, deteriorated public services and increased government military spending, establishing a ten encampment in central Rome to
08:48demand structural economic relief.
09:15In Syria, Israeli forces carried out new military raids in the southern territory.
09:20Occupation forces carried out new ground incursions in the provinces of Kunitra and Dara in southern Syria, establishing temporary checkpoints
09:28and restricting the free movement of the civilian population.
09:31According to a report by the Syrian Human Rights Observatory, troops entered rural areas and strategic valleys in the border
09:40region in armored vehicles.
09:41The local population and human rights defenders expressed their concern over the frequency of these operations, demanding an end to
09:48armed patrols and respect for international law on Syrian territory.
10:00And now we have a show break coming up, but first remember that you can join us on Tik Tok
10:04at Telestory English, where you will find news in different formats, news updates and marshmallows.
10:09We will be right back still with us.
10:24Welcome back.
10:24In the United States, with three days to go before the midterm elections, voters are demanding lower prices and end
10:31to the war in Iran, greater guarantees for health care and more accountability from Washington.
10:36Our correspondent, Dan Albright, has more details.
10:41Yeah, thank you.
10:42Three days to go before the midterms as voters will decide who controls Congress.
10:47We're also seeing some signs of what they expect Congress to do in this next term.
10:52The clearest demand is definitely around high prices.
10:55Voters want relief.
10:56This frustration is cutting across party lines.
11:00About seven in 10 want Congress to prioritize ending the war in Iran.
11:04Majorities want Medicaid and Medicare and Social Security protected or expanded.
11:11Most voters say immigration enforcement has gone too far.
11:14There's pressure for stronger oversight of ICE and government spending.
11:19Greater transparency around the Epstein files still cutting across party lines.
11:24On foreign policy, support for Israel has fallen sharply.
11:29A majority now favors reducing or ending U.S. military aid.
11:32Many in Trump's MAGA base have been disappointed by what they see as Trump reneging on his promise to stop
11:39getting the U.S. entangled in foreign wars.
11:42Increasingly, voters across parties want Washington to put some limits on the rapid rise of AI protecting jobs and communities
11:50as data centers and automation expand.
11:53Across party lines, voters also want less influence from billionaires and big donors, with overwhelming majorities saying corruption is a
12:01serious problem and supporting tighter limits on money in politics.
12:06As for the outcome, most voters expect Democrats to take the House, while expectations for the Senate are more evenly
12:13divided.
12:13So overall, voters are looking for some concrete action, lower costs, less corruption, and end to war, more focus on
12:21relief for the domestic population,
12:23protection for health care and social programs, and more accountability from Washington.
12:30From Boston, Dan Albrecht, Telesaur, back to you.
12:35A federal shooting at a Halloween store in Northern California left one person dead and six others wounded, exposing ongoing
12:43public safety vulnerabilities in public commercial spaces.
12:46Emergency crews responded to a spirit Halloween store in Fairfield at 8.30 p.m. on Friday, reaching six hospitalized
12:54victims, including three in critical condition.
12:57Police chief Dan Marshall confirmed an active investigation remains on the way, as law enforcement has yet to identify the
13:04suspect or suspects responsible for the shooting.
13:07A tragic incident occurred hours before national Halloween festivities, sparking renewable outrage over persistent gun violence and systemic insecurity across
13:17U.S. urban centers.
13:37Seville thunderstorms struck Phoenix, Arizona, triggering sudden flash floods that inundated major roadways and trapped motorists inside submerged vehicles.
13:47Emergency crews executed shallow water rescues across Maricopa County, successfully extracting six people trapped in four vehicles with no injuries
13:57reported.
13:58The National Weather Service reported over 25 millimeters of rainfall in less than an hour,
14:03prompting flash floods, warnings, and widespread road closures across the metropolitan area.
14:09Weather authorities issued urgent warnings against crossing flooded areas,
14:13as emergency services remain on high alert across Arizona's urban centers.
14:27Mount Mayon, one of the most active volcanoes in the Philippines, launched a dense ash cloud into the sky,
14:34following a moderate explosive eruption in Albay province.
14:37Video photos showed a massive grey plump engulfing the surrounding area,
14:42significantly reducing visibility across neighboring communities as monitoring agencies stayed on high alert.
14:49The explosion forms part of ongoing volcanic captivity at Mayon,
14:53which has recorded dozens of historical eruptions and remains under continuous state surveillance.
14:59While no casualties or structural damage have been reported so far,
15:03authorities maintain street safety protocols to the ground surrounding working-class communities.
15:17And severe air pollution from ongoing wildfires in Indonesia caused over 3,500 deaths in September,
15:24exposing nearly 58 million people to toxic air levels,
15:28according to a report by the Helsinki-based Center for Energy and Clean Air Research.
15:33Regions since July, across pet lands and national parks,
15:39the fires have mobilized firefighters, military personnel and volunteers
15:43using aerial water drops to contain the blazes.
15:47Environmental research shows extensive destruction of forest and agricultural lands
15:52across Sumatra, Borneo and Papua, worsening severe respiratory risks across the region.
15:58Astaxi-Haze spreads toward neighboring countries, environmental organizations urge
16:03structural action against unchecked deforestation to safeguard public health and community ecosystems.
16:17We go now for a short break, but we will be right back and stay with us.
16:31Welcome back.
16:32A high-ranking official in Chile was removed from office
16:35amid controversy over the release of 56 convicts for sexual crimes against minors.
16:40The government removed under Secretary of Justice Luis Silva from his post amid a national controversy
16:47inspired by the sentence reductions and immediate release of 56 inmates convicted of rape and sexual abuse of minors.
16:54Although Chilean law expressly excludes those convicted of pedophilia from being eligible for sentence reduction for good behavior,
17:03the decree signed by ministerial authorities granted freedom to the convicts without notifying the victims or their families.
17:13The National Mint appointed Josefina Soto to head the Under Secretariat,
17:19a lawyer who served on the Technical Admissibility Committee for the Second Constitutional Process,
17:25and held positions in the Ministers of Finance and Energy, while the opposition in the Chamber of Deputies
17:33is preparing a constitutional impeachment proceeding against the current minister Fernando Rabat.
17:48Now, in Venezuela, the president, Jesús Rodríguez, led the handover of 564 homes in Caracas
17:54and other states across the country this Friday, October 30.
17:58From Fuerte Tuna, Rodríguez announced that 92 apartments have been allocated to as many families
18:05in addition to 80 temporary single-family homes.
18:09Additional housing units were delivered through simultaneous operations in states
18:14such as Miranda, Falcón and Tashira, among others.
18:17The official explained that these homes are intended to provide those affected with a private family-oriented space
18:23during the transition period.
18:25She also noted that with these new units, the government has now provided a total of 580 temporary single-family
18:33homes
18:34in Fuerte Tuna and Ciudad Caribe.
18:36These recovery initiatives are part of the Venezuela Rises Plan, which focuses on restoring homes
18:42and building housing solutions following the earthquakes that occurred on June 24.
18:55A day of happiness.
18:57Today we're handing over 564 homes in different states across the country to 564 Venezuelan families who lost their homes
19:06in La Guaira.
19:08They are now receiving their new homes.
19:13We are here at Fuerte Tuna, where we are handed over 92 apartments to 92 families who are receiving their
19:20homes today.
19:25El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele declared that he will keep his military forces in Haiti until achieving the rescue of
19:32four members of his army.
19:34The President detailed that almost complete deployment of troops and military equipment to Haiti,
19:39affirming that the mission is not directed against the civilian population.
19:43Bukele also said that he will withdraw the troops once they have rescued the four military personnel.
19:49However, the Haitian diaspora has denounced bombings in civilian areas, contradicting Bukele's official account of a rescue operation.
20:07I told the criminal groups that we whip out the criminal groups in El Salvador, and we can do the
20:12same with you.
20:12So what is a warning?
20:13Our mission is not to wipe out Haitian criminal groups, but to rescue our four aviation technicians.
20:19If they don't have them over willingly, we're going to rescue them by force.
20:23Along the way, we're going to wipe them out.
20:26I don't know how many because that depends on how our mission resolves.
20:30If they take their time, more and more of them will be wiped out because we're not going to knock
20:35the door and ask for permission.
20:40In Thailand, the Thai Red Cross Society transformed Halloween into a life-saving blood donation campaign in Bangkok,
20:48using custom-themed drives to boost critical medical supplies.
20:52Staff dressed as ghosts and monsters greeted donors at the National Blood Center,
20:57offering special commemorative shirts to encourage popular participation.
21:01Officials reported that weekday donations averaged 600 units against a daily need of 1,000,
21:09with the Halloween Drive projected to triple turnout to $3,000.

21:18reinforcing a culture of regular blood donation and public health solidarity.
