Transcript
00:20Anybody?
00:23Mike?
00:27When you plan a match in the week or in the days before it goes like that,
00:32is that kind of how you wanted it to go, how you expected it to go today?
00:38Yeah, I think we expected a game where we have to suffer,
00:43because coming here to this place is very difficult,
00:47facing the best team, one of the best teams in the Premier League in the world.
00:52You need to play on your highest level and you need to stick together.
00:54Therefore, we all wanted to have this feeling that defence wins today
01:00and defence wins these kind of tight games and that's what my team showed today.
01:05We had all this defensive mindset, we all showed real togetherness,
01:09we faced a lot of adversity during the game and therefore I'm really proud
01:13how my players stick together and how they kept the clean sheet with quality,
01:18with a little bit of luck, but also in the end deserved because they worked hard for it.
01:24That defensive display, do you think Louis Dunk, do you think when he comes up against a striker like Erling
01:32Haaland,
01:33he actually enjoys that kind of challenge and that physicality?
01:39I think every player, and that's also what I want, I want to have players who want to compete, who
01:45want to dominate and therefore I think you only get better if you play against the best.
01:50And I know that Louis Stein and Luka Wuskic are all competitors and they all have this winning mentality inside
01:57of them.
01:58So, of course, they want to compete themselves as the best in the world and that's what I did today.
02:03But I think these kind of performances are not coming back to one or two players, it's a performance where
02:09everyone has to stick together,
02:11it's a performance where everyone showed this kind of ability that we can suffer together.
02:16And in the end, if you win as a team, then, of course, individual players will be named and they
02:21definitely deserved it today.
02:23Fabian, you spoke a little bit on Friday about the team staying up between these games and obviously after what
02:30happened on Wednesday.
02:32Can you explain a bit about the process of getting the recovery from that defeat on penalties to today?
02:40The first thing was that we were sitting on Wednesday in the locker room with a disappointing feeling because going
02:48out in penalty shootout is brutal.
02:50I think that's the worst thing to lose or the worst way to lose a match.
02:55And then we promised ourselves that on Saturday we won't and we don't want to have the same feeling,
03:02we want to have a feeling of being satisfied, of being happy after the game.
03:05That's what we promised ourselves.
03:07So, we said to each other we have to get away or we have to get our body this kind
03:11of disappointment.
03:12And on the next day, we set the tone, we created energy, we created positivity because you need to have
03:19this in your environment
03:20if you want to focus on the next game.
03:22And immediately after the game we saw Saturday as an opportunity to come back, to come back stronger,
03:29to face now this adversity what we had on Wednesday and show another great performance on Saturday.
03:34And this was the approach we had and how the players recovered, how the players stick together,
03:38how the players also built this connection throughout these four days was really impressive.
03:43And therefore, I'm really proud of everyone who was involved because not only players, also the staff members worked really
03:49hard.
03:49They did the work in the shadow and they really had to make the players recover,
03:54they really had to create the right energy in the hotel and therefore I think it's also a win for
03:59them.
04:00Just one other thing. I don't know if you were aware of this, but obviously your personal record against City
04:05is pretty impressive.
04:06But this was the last ground for Brighton in the Premier League, the last big elite club, if you like,
04:13ground where they hadn't won.
04:14Is that something that you're aware of and that that box has now been ticked off?
04:19No, I wasn't aware of that, so thanks for letting me know.
04:23And for me it's more important, it's not about making this kind of history,
04:28for me it's more important that we can give something back to our supporters.
04:32They had a tough night on Wednesday, they stayed here, they travelled again and spent a lot of time and
04:37money to support us.
04:38And therefore, I'm very happy that we can give them something back.
04:41I hope that they all enjoy the night today and I'm very happy that we can also win these kind
04:46of games on the pitch with my team
04:48because it's also part of our process that we can't always dominate, we also have to suffer in certain moments
04:55and that's what my team did today and that's another great step in our process and our development.
05:00Brian?
05:01I appreciate what you say about individuals, but it's amazing how these stories happen, Yasin scoring the goal.
05:07How have his last few days been and how pleased are you for him?
05:10I think it's a prime example of what I just said about the team.
05:13Of course, he was very disappointed after the game and then the next game we saw each other
05:19and that's what I meant.
05:20We decide, every morning you wake up and you can decide on your own.
05:24Are you disappointed from the day before but you can't change anymore or do you set the tone in a
05:30new way on this day?
05:31And that's what I said to the players, you can decide how you have to approach for the next game.
05:36So, stand up and have to believe that on Saturday you will have a different feeling after the game.
05:41And that's also what Yasin did and today he showed impressive performance, not only because of scoring the goal,
05:47also because he was running a lot, he was defending quite well and he was one big part, one key
05:55while we won the game.
05:57Darren?
05:59Hi Fabian. A first Premier League start for Kostina today. He was up against a very tricky opponent.
06:05What were your thoughts on his performance today?
06:08Yeah, I think everyone saw it or knew it was before that he maybe played against the best winger
06:15or played against the best winger in the league but how he managed it was really impressive
06:19and we knew that he's a really, really good defender. We knew also that he has this physicality
06:24but for me, I think it's also important that everyone understands what the body is capable of doing.
06:28He played 90 minutes on Wednesday, he played today 90 minutes. He's in a very impressive shape.
06:35And, of course, you got also the help from his teammates. So, it's not only one against one against two.
06:40It was the help from his teammates. It was to really stick together, try to close the spaces around him.
06:46And therefore, that's what I always say. If the team is successful, then, of course, individual players get picked.
06:53And Kostina definitely deserves it today.
06:55And Kadioglu, is it a bit more serious or is it just he needs a bit more time?
06:58No, he trained yesterday but he still felt it. And therefore, we had to make a decision afterwards that it
07:06doesn't make sense.
07:07So, hopefully, he can recover now the next days. We have one more day than usual.
07:13So, I'm quite positive there's an option for Thursday.
07:20Hi Fabian. You've just won away at the league leaders. I mean, you're only a couple of points behind them.
07:25What do you think is possible this season?
07:29I think the only thing what we are focused on at the moment is that we are in a big
07:34process.
07:34We are in a process where we go home now, analyse the game, try to take the right things out
07:40of the game,
07:40try to analyse it and make it better and then try to prepare well for Getafe.
07:45Because that's another big challenge ahead of us in the Conference League and in Europe, different games.
07:50So, we have to be there on our highest level. It will be a different game.
07:54And therefore, we only try to go from game to game.
07:56Go done.
