00:00At around 10 o'clock in the morning, a person entered a high school with a chainsaw and attacked a
00:1010th class student.
00:13As soon as I got to know about this, I alerted the police, I alerted the district health system.
00:22She was shifted immediately to the government hospital where she was stabilized.
00:28Almost 8 hours, the doctors worked on her, stabilized her.
00:32After she was fit to be shifted, we shifted her to the hospital here in Bangalore, to Manipal Hospital.
00:40As soon as the doctors received her here, immediately they worked on her.
00:44Another 12 hours she spent in OT and after that she has now been shifted to ICU.
00:51Next 48 hours are critical 48 hours and all I would ask from everyone is to keep her in her
00:57prayers.
00:58She is our girl, she is our daughter.
01:02She needs our support, she needs our prayers.
01:05As a government, we have taken this very seriously.
01:07It's a very untoward incident, it shouldn't have happened.
01:11There was construction happening in the high school.
01:13We are building a Bhavita center there.
01:15Under the guise of the workers in the Bhavita center, this person came into the school and took such extreme
01:21steps.
01:22Now we are on.
01:24Manhunt is happening.
01:26Whoever is responsible for this incident, that person or group of individuals will not be let alone.
01:33We will take very firm action and we will use every tool available in the legal framework to ensure that
01:40justice is done.
01:41And we will not let that person get away that easy.
01:47While this incident was happening, there are other students in the classroom and there are students in the adjoining classrooms.
01:54They will also go through a lot of trauma because they have seen what has happened in front of their
01:57eyes.
01:58So as soon as this incident happened, I spoke to the entire district administration.
02:03We already have counsellors in our school education system.
02:06The counsellors are sent to the houses.
02:08We spoke to the parents, we spoke to the children, we spoke to the teacher.
02:12And we believe that this is a long road to recovery.
02:15It will take at least a year.
02:17It's important to proactively engage with the students and ensure that they do not have any stress from this.
02:23The various medical terminologies for this and I would not go into that.
02:27But there is always trauma that kids carry and it's important to ensure that this does not affect them both
02:36in the short, medium and long term.
02:38So we are taking all appropriate steps to ensure that they will be safe and even the parents will have
02:44the sense of comfort and confidence to send children back to schools.
02:50So the government has taken this very seriously.
02:52We already have a framework for child safety in our schools.
02:54Typically we do not allow anyone to visit schools during school hours.
02:59Even in our hostel system, there is a very robust framework where permissions are taken from parents before even allowing
03:05a relative to meet their children.
03:09In this case, under the guise of construction worker, this person entered.
03:14It's something that we have taken very seriously.
03:16We will ensure that no untoward incidents ever happen in our state school education system.
