00:01the shop around the corner was a hit upon release and no wonder with the elegant direction by
00:07Ernst Lubitsch the charming leather goods store filled with quirky characters the Christmas time
00:13setting the chemistry between the two leads and the enemies to lovers storyline and that trope
00:20works especially well here because we know as the audience that these two are actually perfect for
00:26each other Mr Kralik and Miss Novak may put on a tough public face but their intimate letters
00:32reveal their good nature and the big hearts they have underneath it all the shop around the corner
00:38has been remade several times since its release most notably in 1949 with in the good old summertime
00:45starring Judy Garland and Van Johnson and in 1998 with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in You've Got Mail
00:52and for that version Nora and Delia Efron updated the story so the characters use email instead of
00:59letters and that makes me wonder what the next version will be catfishing on social media doesn't
01:05quite seem romantic does it anyway I'll be back next week with more TCM summer romance but keep
01:12watching TCM right now because after the break we'll see Bette Davis go through a transformation
01:17in a romantic drama from 1942
01:22next on TCM now Voyager then on the waterfront and later the night of the iguana TCM is cold-blooded
