00:08A beautiful sunny day as we get ready for day three of the second test match South Africa up
00:15against Australia and South Africa have got their backs to the wall at the moment they're 1-0 down
00:20in the series and struggling a little bit in their first innings to put runs on the board
00:25Australia have been well on top of this test match and no doubt much to the light of their supporters
00:32who have come in through all the days of cricket so far got strong support here in South Africa
00:39that's where things stand at the moment Temba Bavuma is obviously crucial for South Africa 41 runs
00:45to his name and he's also been at the crease for 163 minutes now within this inning so time at
00:51the
00:52crease for him but he needs to stay there a lot longer if South Africa can put something
00:55competitive on the board in their first innings
01:04Moved well across his stumps you can see the leg stump manages to clip it very fine an attempt
01:10at stopping the boundary is failed by Boland
01:17get struck ducks out of it there is an appeal Mitchell Stark thinks that this has come off
01:25the glove the umpire says no they'll have a chat obviously with the captain they said yeah let's
01:31have another look yeah back again please just take it back what two frames please yeah and one forward
01:43three one forward please thank you freeze it there got a clear spike with the ball on the glove
01:50Chris you're on camera signal now test record number 450 for Mitch Stark he's got two in the innings now
02:01unbelievable bowler he's been for Australia and he gets the early breakthrough
02:07beautiful on drive Bavuma he's been crisp with the bat and that's one of the shots of the innings
02:18little under edge or run down to the fence and Jansen is away
02:25I say he deals in boundaries that's one of the best you'll see a flowing cover drive from big
02:31yeah Marco oh just have a look you're here in the commentary box everyone just got hot because
02:42that is an absolutely magnificent on drive smiles from the South Africans around me here
02:53tucks it fine work to be done too much work well battered by the skipper under the pump
02:59Timba Bavuma stands up and delivers a 27th test 50 alongside 400s his country needed him and that man
03:08is delivering lofted now he's starting to smack them first to a style now it's four six straight down the
03:22ground job oh yes just just oh I thought it was comfortably over his head but not at all
03:38everybody hung and hung and waited and watched
03:47this is kind of fun now
03:52doesn't mean much for South Africa to cheer about
03:58nice 50 that and really I mean I'd go so far as to say crucial for South Africa in this
04:03game
04:05tremendous character he is fine cricketer
04:12that's a good hit that's us oh I tell you what that is two inches from coming through our window
04:24punch away into the offside it is by Timba Bavuma
04:31on an incredible and enthralling first session we've had it was a tough first half an hour for South Africa
04:38they lost the wicket of Mulder as well but Timba Bavuma has seen South Africa through to the lunch break
04:45six down he himself has been there now for almost 300 minutes and he shared in a partnership of 106
04:53with Marku Jansen who has been just brilliant with the bat
04:56and given South Africa exactly what they needed to fight back against these mighty Australians
05:07nicely driven
05:08backward a point another boundary for Bavuma he moves into the 80s
05:15oh
05:15oh
05:17misses inside edge out Mr. Stumps he wound up he gets four
05:27well unsurprisingly they've got the new ball whether you'd have been tempted to have one more of Nick Maddinson bowling
05:33at Marku Jansen just to see if he wanted to take him down
05:36and make a mistake doing so but no
05:42immediately a bit of nipage
05:47straight away and that's hit him quite hard and that looks painful
05:55sees we had a bit proteus physio we've seen some of his work when he was able to keep
06:02Timba Bavuma
06:05on the field in the world test championship final
06:09and the services are required here by Marku Jansen
06:16that's out that's caught a mid wicket Scott Boland wins it
06:22and that's such a shame for Marku Jansen good sharp catch that by the way from Travis Head at mid
06:28wicket
06:29that the story is Marku Jansen
06:32the blow to the lower midriff
06:36has a lot to answer for absolutely amazingly for South Africa
06:45beautiful timing Simon Harmer get on
06:55nicely played
06:57soft hands gets it away to the boundary
07:06listen to the roar
07:10physically diminutive Timba Bavuma
07:14but colossal in standing South Africa's world test championship winning captain
07:21he brings up a fifth test match hundred four of them have come as captain and this one no less
07:30important as he walked in at 12 for two and has guided his side to a better position than they
07:39were before
07:44it's in the gap and away it goes for four more
07:51Harmer collects
07:55lovely he has treated us to some class today and it's just been magnificent to watch
08:04Hazelwood Hazelwood in and Simon Harmer says thank you very much i'll have four
08:15the crowd's loving this innings from Simon Harmer they know how important this is
08:22partnership marches on
08:28asked a couple of questions in those last few deliveries said webster to take us to tea
08:38318 is on the board for south africa and the standout in the innings is the south african captain
08:46Tema Bavuma what an innings his fifth test hundred
08:49and he's taken south africa to tea now in a much better position than they were when they started the
08:56day
08:56and had lost the wicket of vian molder contributions of course by marku jansen and simon harmer as well
09:04but so well led by the captain
09:09welcome back everybody to go back where it's in george's and it is bathed in sunshine
09:18south africa against australia it's day number three and going into the final session of day three
09:30oh yes timba bavuma
09:36minimal in terms of the movement that straight back face once again down the ground and four
09:46crunched away magnificent backward a point races across the boomer to 149
09:57so
09:58drives it away takes another single 150 for timba bavuma
10:04captain courageous second time he's reached the mark in test cricket
10:08this is a wonderful innings his country needed him he stood up that's warmly received
10:16that's a good hit that sounded good looks good is good
10:27well it's a lovely innings it really is simon harmer goes to his first test match 50
10:32he gets applause from everybody not least the two commentators alongside me simon cadditch
10:37and uh kaya zonda it really is an innings of class intelligence and as a support act to
10:45temper bavuma it's nothing short of perfect 371 for seven
10:55fabulous shot he hit it too hard really even for the leaping fielder
10:59he plays that pull stroke well hey he's on it quickly stands tall
11:09and boundaries will keep flowing and the frustration levels for australia will continue to grow
11:28and now he eclipses that against australia in a much-needed cause
11:38takes a big heave out to the leg side and instead he loses the opportunity for a test hundred
11:46but what an innings it may have been a support act but it's a support act that is valued by
11:53south africa
11:56just a brilliant innings his highest test score brings an incredible knock for simon harmer
12:07celebration for stark as he gets a little edge
12:13timber bavuma has played a magnificent innings one to savor as the australians come up to shake his hand
12:21as you would expect his best in the format
12:28showing why he is the leader of the side in so many ways and they have decided to declare
12:36one of the great knocks in south african cricket timber bavuma got an absolute peach there from
12:42mitchell stock but this crowd stands and applauds the south african captain 179
12:48and south africa were in so much trouble when he came out and has put his team right on the
12:55run on the front foot
12:59it's been that man's day he batted for marathon 547 minutes for 179 from 334 balls from an unlikely six
13:10for
13:10110 with his highest test score he has given south africa a real opportunity to potentially win the test
13:16match take the series one a piece in cape town what a dream result that would be
13:25and it zips through
13:28if you had to choose one bowler of all the bowlers are going to operate for south africa that could
13:33ball similar to what we saw squatty bowling do with the new ball on the newish ball i think it
13:37would
13:37be cagey ribada one of those guys who can just hit air and then nibble it nip it from there
13:45taken ribada back into test cricket knocks out the madness for a duck and it is the perfect start
13:52for cagey in south africa yeah i showed signs of it with the deliveries before the one that looks
13:57like it wants to angle into the left hand and then goes across him
14:04oh nicely played from bowl and just punches it down the ground nancy chases after it and they trot back
14:22it's a strange game at times test cricket three for one
14:27south africa's day that's the captain's day in kg late nick madison he'll have a tough time at dinner
14:34tonight the wicket to fall the deficit 422 on the back of timber bovooma's marathon innings
14:43his highest test score out there for 547 minutes and he turned a potential disaster
14:48into a potential match-winning situation for his country
14:53wonderful hit that was hit with venom got him what a good catch
