00:08and several homes damaged.
00:14Iran has expressed flexibility on reopening the Strategic Strait of Hormuz, agreeing to a shortened two-day diplomatic roadmap mediated
00:23by Qatar.
00:28The United States has surpassed 53 million early votes, with 24 hours to go before the mid-term elections.
00:42Hello and welcome to From the South. I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Caracas, Venezuela. We begin with the
00:48news, so stay with us.
01:22We begin with the news, so stay with us.
01:24We begin with the news, so stay with us.
01:25We begin with the news, so stay with us.
01:25The explosions caused the damage, both to the military units' facilities, attacked to the 66th Brigade, and to homes in
01:35an adjacent neighbourhood.
01:36At this time, military and police authorities have cordoned off the area and are conducting the necessary investigations.
02:04Adriana Magali Matisse, the Governor of the Department of Tolima, wrote on her ex-social media account,
02:10I report that the attack in Planadas has left a preliminary toll of four people deceased, including a baby girl
02:17of only two months old.
02:19This is unacceptable. My solidarity with the families. We demand justice and decisive action to stop this barbarity.
02:33As in Colombia, the Ombudsman's Office issued a warning about the forced displacement of 500 indigenous people in Nauquí, Chocó,
02:41due to clashes between armed groups.
02:42In an official statement, the Ombudsman's Office declared,
02:46In an official statement, the Ombudsman's Office declared,
02:46We express our concern over the forced displacement of approximately 500 indigenous people from the community of Villanueva in the
02:54Corregimiento of Jurubidad in the municipality of Nauquí, Chocó,
03:00who, on the afternoon of November 1st, were forced to flee their territory due to fear caused by the presence
03:06of and conflicts between illegal armed groups.
03:10Among the displaced persons are girls, boys, women, elderly people and traditional authorities.
03:16According to available information, the community is temporarily staying in Jurubidad,
03:21having been unable to complete their journey to the municipal capital of Nauquí.
03:26We are particularly concerned that the situation may spread to other communities, according to available information.
03:33The community of Puerto India, comprising nearly 300 people, is also considering evacuating due to the insecure conditions.
03:44It is essential to take preventive action to prevent more families from having to leave their homes and land.
03:57In other topics, Venezuela's acting president, Delci Rodriguez, welcomed Christmas during a tour to the Paseo de los Próceres in
04:04the city of Caracas.
04:05During the tour, the president was accompanied by the Major of the Libertador Municipality of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez,
04:11the Sectorial Vice President of Communications and Culture, Miguel Ángel Pérez Pirela, and the Head of Government of the Capital
04:19District, Naúm Fernández.
04:21The tour took place along a corridor of entrepreneurs.
04:25In addition, the event attracted a large crowd of citizens who travelled to the monumental complex to enjoy the traditional
04:32lighting ceremony.
04:33The event unfolded orderly and also under strong security measures in an atmosphere of peace and fellowship.
04:53Well, as you know, Venezuela has been shaken by painful events this year, 2026.
04:59November has arrived, and the whole country is switching on its Christmas lights.
05:03Most importantly of all, we are going to share an embrace.
05:09An embrace of solidarity, an embrace to heal wounds, an embrace to reunite with friends and family.
05:21Just yesterday, we were handing over homes to families who lost loved ones in the double earthquake.
05:28We told them that this Christmas, there will be family hugs and hugs among friends.
05:38So I want us all to count down and light up the Guadaira Repano Cross and these beautiful lights together.
05:44Let's begin.
05:469, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
06:05Now we go to Brazil as the nation expands straight access to the Norwegian market with tariff benefits
06:12for almost all its exports.
06:14The agreement provides for the immediate elimination of import duties on a wide range of products
06:19while simplifying technical requirements and customs procedures.
06:24With this measure, both countries aim to reduce operating costs and boost bilateral trade.
06:30It is worth noting that Norway is Brazil's main trading partner with the European Free Trade Association.
06:43And in Ecuador, the government of Daniel Novoa implemented the fourth night car fee of the year
06:49with the aim of curbing the rise in crime in the South American country.
06:53The measure will remain in effect until November 10th and will cover five of the country's 24 provinces,
06:59including Guayas, Ecuador's most populous province, where criminal activity linked to drug trafficking is concentrated.
07:07This is the fourth restriction of this kind this year, following those imposed in March, May and September
07:13amid a security crisis that led the country to a record 9,283 homicides with a rate exceeding 50 murders
07:21per 100,000 inhabitants.
07:23However, these car fees have been questioned for their limited success in reducing violence,
07:28while they are enforced under successive states of emergency that suspend fundamental rights,
07:35such as the inviolability of the home and also of communications.
07:48And now we have a short break coming up.
07:50But first remember, you can join us on TikTok at Tell Us It English,

07:58We'll be right back, so stay with us.
08:29We'll be right back, so stay with us.
08:29Welcome back to From the South. Iran has expressed flexibility on reopening the Strategic Strait of Hormuz, agreeing to a
08:37shortened two-day diplomatic roadmap mediated by Qatar.
08:41Foreign Minister Abbasar actually confirmed Tehran agreed to shorten its timeline, stipulating that the United States must first fulfill key
08:49conditions, including unfreezing Iranian assets, ending naval blockades, and removing post-Islamabad memorandum of understanding sanctions.
08:56Under the Qatari-mediated framework, full commercial traffic through the vital waterway would resume on the second day, once Washington
09:05abides by its commitments, paving the way for diplomatic negotiations and regional stability.
09:21The basis for negotiations between Iran and the United States through mediators remains Iran's seven-step plan, which has now
09:29been condensed, so that it can be implemented within two days.
09:37This, once again, demonstrates Iran's good-faith approach.
09:43As we have already stated, if Iran's demands are met, security can be restored to the Strait of Hormuz, and
09:53the negotiation process can get underway within a short period of time.
09:59No final agreement can move forward.
10:05And the Strait of Hormuz cannot be reopened or made secure unless the U.S. naval blockade is lifted.
10:13And Iran's demands are met.
10:16In Israel, police dispersed protests by Orthodox Jews and Kirijat Ono, where they were protesting against mandatory military enlistment.
10:25At the scene, hundreds of religious people engaged in violent clashes with Israeli police after blocking the access roads to
10:34the Tel Hashomer military base.
10:36The protest was in response to the refusal to comply with draft orders and the recent wave of arrests of
10:43rabbinical seminary students accused of desertion.
10:48In response to the blockade, law enforcement declared the gathering illegal and deployed riot police to clear the way for
10:56new conscripts attempting to enter the premises.
11:09Also in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, health officials released updated figures on the ongoing Ebola outbreak reporting over
11:165,000 total fatalities.
11:17According to the National Institute of Biomedical Research, a total of 10,414 Ebola cases were confirmed with 5,372
11:28deaths reported.
11:29Health authorities clarified that the recent increase in death toll statistics follows a retrospective data alignment between local teams in
11:38Ituri province and national processing centres.
11:41With the case fatality rate standing above 51%, African health agencies continue working to bolster public health care infrastructure and
11:51epidemic control across the region.
12:14Now we go to China's President Xi Jinping and Oman Sultan Haithan bin Tariq al-Sahid held historic high-level
12:20talks in Beijing to elevate bilateral relations.
12:23Marking the first visits by an Omani head of state in 48 years, both leaders agreed to deepen strategic ties
12:30in energy, industrial supply chains and technology.
12:33President Xi emphasized that the Gulf region must not become an arena for major power rivalry, reaffirming China's commitment to
12:42diplomatic solutions and peace in the Middle East.
12:45The Sultan reaffirmed Oman's support for the one China principle, highlighting China's indispensable role in upholding international law and promoting
12:55multipolar stability.
13:06In other topics, thousands took to the streets of New Delhi on Sunday to demand the immediate resignation of India's
13:12election shift over widespread voting role in irregularities led by opposition parties, student groups and civil society.
13:20In 2020, the rally condemned the election commission's removal of 130 billion voters from official roles.
13:27Demonstrators warned that this infringing voters threatens electoral accountability undermining basic democratic rights.
13:37Unaffiliated citizens joined political groups in calling for unified popular resistance to protect voting rights and defend state institutions.
13:55Anti-fascist organizations, trade unions and student groups rallied in Athens on Sunday to block a gathering commemorating two members
14:02of the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn Party.
14:05Protesters clashed with riot police cordons as communist leaders, teachers and youth.
14:11These representatives warned that far-right groups used nationalism to poison young minds amid worsening economic hardships.
14:20The counter-demonstration took place as far-right remnants attempted to commemorate a 2013 fatal shooting despite Golden Dawn being
14:29legally designated a criminal organization by Greek courts.
14:34Working class organizations, working class organizations and student unions reaffirmed their commitment to drive neo-Nazi elements out of schools
14:41and neighborhoods demanding popular unity against fascism and exploitation.
14:54Huge crowds of housing rights protesters reoccupied public squares in Lisbon and Porto on Sunday evening, hours after riot police
15:04forcibly cleared their encampments.
15:05Following the police raids that resulted in surging arrests across both cities, working class demonstrations renewed their occupation to demand
15:14structural housing reforms.
15:16Protesters are demanding. The government's scrap proposed rental legislation that would ease evictions and remove rent caps on new leases.
15:25Exacerbating sense of vulnerability. Social movements pledged to maintain popular resistance on the streets, warning that deregulation will further inflate
15:35housing costs for working class families.

16:32Welcome back to From the South.
16:34The United States has surpassed 53 million early votes with 24 hours to go before the midterm elections.
16:41In this context, grassroots movements are taking the fight for Palestinian liberation directly to local ballot boxes.
16:48Our correspondent, Don Albright, brings us the details from the province.
16:52A majority of US citizens and three out of four Democrats now oppose military aid to Israel.
16:59And Palestine is showing up across the midterms from major campaigns to ballot initiatives.
17:05I came to Providence, Rhode Island, where organizers collected roughly 10,000 signatures to put question seven on the ballot.
17:14We're not investing money. We're changing where we're in that stereotype, right?
17:18If it passes, the city would divest public money from investments tied to severe human rights violations.
17:25I do not believe that we should be investing in any country that is actively engaging in apartheid, illegal military
17:33occupation or genocide.
17:35Morales, a Democratic Socialist, now the overwhelming favorite Tuesday, has centered affordability rents in schools, drawing comparisons to Zoran Mamdani.
17:45At the doors, canvassers connect those local issues to divestment.
17:52What do we want the government to do with our people?
18:01Opponents, including outgoing Mayor Brett Smiley, have deployed allegations of anti-Semitism against the measure.
18:07Judaism is a big part of my life, but I don't associate that with Israel at all, especially with Israel
18:12committing genocide.
18:13Right now, we have a massive disconnect between the general public that's turning fast against Israel and a class of
18:20elected officials that are still disproportionately trying to hang on to a pro-Israel position.
18:26But that's a massive contradiction and one that we're seeing play out in primaries all over the country.
18:31Michigan primary loser Haley Stevens took the extraordinary step of endorsing against candidate Abdul El-Sayed in the general, largely
18:41over disagreements on Israel, breaking party unity in a race crucial to Senate control.
18:46And at least 20 U.S. cities have taken divestment-related action from Sacramento to Cambridge and even small East
18:55Hampton, Massachusetts.
18:57Days ago, AIPAC said it will end direct endorsements and contributions after this election, a significant sign of the times.
19:06What are the values that we are actively displaying?
19:08And for us, the values are making sure working people can stay in their homes.
19:12Our values are ensuring that innocent people overseas are not being killed because of mindless spending coming in from our
19:21federal government that's aiding in the genocide.
19:24Providence will now test whether years of protest can become binding policy and whether victories like this can travel further.
19:32From Providence, Dan Albrecht, Telesor.
19:36We're staying in the U.S. because a private jet plunged into a South Florida neighborhood on Sunday, instantly exploding
19:43into a fireball near Abyss Road.
19:46Authorities confirmed all nine people aboard the aircraft were killed when the plane crashed in Palm Beach County shortly before
19:531 p.m.
19:54Federal aviation officials reported the flight had departed Austin, Texas, bound for the Bahamas, before losing control in midair.
20:02The crew declared an emergency amid izing and turbulence.
20:05While the crash left a large crater near homes, local officials reported no immediate casualties on the ground as federal
20:15investigations propped the cause.
20:39In Ecuador, residents in the rural parish of Calderón, north of Quito, marked the Day of the Dad with a
20:46traditional procession of candles.
20:48Dozens of community members carried flames symbolizing a spiritual bridge guiding the souls of their ancestors back home to receive
20:56family offerings.
20:57In regional tradition, each lit candle represents a specific loved one, lighting their way through darkness in a profound display
21:06of faith and historical memory.
21:08The annual ritual highlights the enduring strength of indigenous and popular heritage, uniting working class families to keep ancestral customs
21:17alive.
21:25On the other side of the world, in the Philippines, small pine wood bonfires illuminated them amid shrouded cemetery overnight
21:34as residents of the mountain town of Sagada gathered to honor the deceased loved ones.
21:40Known as Panagapoi, or to light a fire, to lit a fire, the solemn ceremony has been practiced in the
21:48Cordillera region for 122 years during All Saints Day.
21:53Church leaders underscored the spiritual resonance of the ritual, where light symbolizes faith and warmth for departed ancestors within local
22:01Christian and indigenous tradition.
22:15Commodal flowers gathered at the Delma 75 cemetery in Portal, Prince on Sunday to celebrate Feteged Haiti's traditional festival honoring
22:23the dead.
22:24Held annually on on November 1 and 2.
22:27The ritual honors the spirits of the dead with families gathering to offer coffee, play music and pay homage to
22:33their lineage.
22:33As armed violence has forced families away from historic graveyards in the capital since
22:392024, the Delmas 75 Cemetery has become a key sanctuary for popular memory.
22:45Worshippers emphasize that Bodo remains a pillar of Haitian cultural identity, holding
22:51firm to ancestral heritage and popular resilience amid ongoing national challenges.
