00:00Well, good morning, Brian. How do you do?
00:02I am fantabulous, Jay. You know, a victory Monday.
00:06Sound like pizza to me.
00:08Win is a win, man.
00:09Unless I'm the one who brings steaks, we can get some pizza.
00:12I don't know if that win gets us steaks. I think pizza seems deserved.
00:17Hey, a win gets you whatever, brother.
00:19A win is a win, Jay.
00:21What did you think last night?
00:22I think, again, they started slower.
00:24And they have not played those four quarters yet.
00:26And that's why I keep stating, if they could play four quarters of football,
00:30they could beat anybody in the NFL.
00:32You look at the offense that came out.
00:34You know, you thought they were moving the ball.
00:35Then they sputtered a little bit.
00:36Then you get a missed field goal.
00:38Even defense wasn't even playing good.
00:40But then all of a sudden, the defense say, hell with this.
00:42We're going to play.
00:43And the offense say, hey, we'll do some complimentary football with you.
00:46We're going to come along for the ride.
00:48And down the stretch, I think they played well.
00:50Yeah, I think the most encouraging thing from last night was the defensive line.
00:54I thought the D-line played really well.
00:56I thought you got really good work from Amenahu, Chason, Shai Tuttle.
01:02Shai Tuttle was doing it, Don.
01:03I was impressed by the defense.
01:06I thought they really showed up.
01:08You know, offensively, it's just so hard to marry in your brain what you saw in the first quarter.
01:16And specifically the penalties, the pre-snap BS.
01:19That has to leave.
01:21Twice in the first quarter, Brian.
01:23Twice, they had back-to-back penalties on separate drives.
01:27I saw you posted it.
01:29It was third and one.
01:30Yeah.
01:30Then third and six.
01:31Yeah.
01:32Third and 11.
01:32Yeah.
01:33And that, to me, is the most correctable thing.
01:39That's all about concentration.
01:41Or concentrate your ass off the field.
01:44You know what I mean?
01:45Because if the same people are doing it over and over, something is wrong with that person.
01:48But they do say that they do all these different cadences and changing up.
01:53I don't care.
01:54Stop.
01:55The football.
01:56If it's not moving, you don't move.
01:58I do wonder if, I thought Cosme had a monster game last night going up against Jalen Carter.
02:04He was called for two false starts.
02:08Part of me does wonder.
02:09You've got, I mean, a still relatively new center in there.
02:13A guy in Lucas Patrick that they signed week two.
02:15I think he began starting week three.
02:18You know, that's still relatively new.
02:21And sometimes it seems like he just doesn't snap it.
02:24Now, he doesn't get called for the false start because the ball technically hasn't moved.
02:27Somebody else is moving.
02:28But I wonder if there are times where the rest of the line thinks the ball's about to go and
02:35it doesn't go.
02:36Yeah, I saw that in the game in London as well.
02:40But that time he was snapping early.
02:42Right.
02:42You know, you'll see where they've got to wait that little smidge for somebody to move and settle.
02:50And he snapped the ball.
02:52Right.
02:52Right before they get set.
02:53I mean, if you look at the first three possessions of this game.
02:56So the first possession, it's a good kickoff return by Luke, I believe.
03:01They start at the 50-yard line.
03:03They go seven plays for 18 yards, which is remarkable in and of itself.
03:09They do have a penalty that pushes back the field goal.
03:12And then Stevens misses that field goal.
03:14Stevens was really good the rest of the night.
03:16Yeah, just pushed that one a little bit.
03:19Yeah, just kind of leaked out on them.
03:21Then Philly gets the ball.
03:23They're able to drive down, get their field goal.
03:26Washington's next possession, three and out.
03:28They got seven yards.
03:29The penalties were there.
03:30It was just a mess.
03:32Then Philly's able to go down the field.
03:36I'm sorry.
03:37Then Philly gets the field goal there.
03:39Washington gets the ball back.
03:40Yeah, Chica Conquo makes a great catch, puts the ball on the ground.
03:45Philly takes advantage.
03:46Saquon Barkley, who everyone told me all last week wasn't going to play, certainly played,
03:50certainly scored a touchdown because that's what he does against Washington.
03:53And all of a sudden, it's 10-0 against a Philly team that's depleted.
03:58And you look out there and you see the life the Eagles have.
04:02And the crowd in Northwest Stadium is looking around like, what the bleep is going on here?
04:08Then Washington able to steady the ship a little bit.
04:11They do go down and get that field goal right before the end of the first quarter.
04:15It's 10-3.
04:16Then the defense, I thought, really did a good job of kind of taking over.
04:19Yeah.
04:20In the second quarter of that game, Philly's possessions were punt, punt, punt, halftime.
04:26Yeah.
04:27And Washington, their best drive of the night came at the beginning of the second quarter.
04:3211 plays, 89 yards, touchdown to Steph Diggs, corner of the end zone.
04:36Yeah.
04:37That was Jaden's best drive of the night.
04:39The goal was thrown rather early and just perfect touch.
04:44And he did look off a little bit early, but then he got clicking.
04:48I think the one that they had, he knew that they were offside.
04:52The free play one.
04:53He laid it up.
04:53I think if you put a little bit more outside, the defensive back never gets there.
04:58And I think Traylenburg still catches that.
05:01I think Jaden started rough.
05:03It was 4 of 11.
05:04And there was a play where Williams was open on the left sideline,
05:08which would have been a first down.
05:09And you saw Jaden almost pat the ball.
05:12Like he double clutched it and then threw late.
05:14And at least he has the wherewithal to know if I'm going to throw late,
05:17I got to put it far outside so the DB can't get to it incomplete.
05:21But Jaden on the touchdown drive, that tied it up, right?
05:24And then they're able to sneak a lead at halftime with the late field goal,
05:28which dare I say, it was actually good clock management from the commanders.
05:32But the touchdown drive, Jaden started 4 of 11.
05:36On that drive, he was 5 of 6.
05:38He was nails when he needed to be.
05:40And that was after he gathered the offense on the sideline.
05:43And he wasn't yelling at anyone specifically.
05:46He was saying, all of us got to be better.
05:49I got to be better.
05:50And that was a real moment of leadership.
05:51And I think to have that moment on the sideline,
05:54we don't see that from Jaden all that often.
05:57And then to come out and deliver on the back end of it,
06:00that's the type of stuff that galvanizes the team.
06:03Jaden, when we start the game, to me, seems like he's trying to do something
06:09that he's been told to do.
06:11He seems like I'm just trying to sit in the pocket and be a pot.
06:14But then once he runs the damn football, everything changes.
06:18Once he breaks out and gets a first down or something like that,
06:21and then he begins to be who he is, his whole demeanor changes.
06:27And I don't know if it's like, you know, you go through the week
06:29and, yeah, you know, we want to make sure, you know,
06:31just settle your feet, get used to it.
06:33Like they say, heavyweight championship, they come out, they feel the fight.
06:37Sometimes you got to throw haymakers.
06:39You know?
06:39Because once I see him use his legs, he's a different quarterback to me.
06:43Like, yeah, I thought Jaden finished the game 16 of 29 for 217.
06:50I mean, hell, if you back out, you might have to help me with the math here.
06:53If you back out 4 of 11, that is 12 of 18.
07:00So basically the second quarter on, he was completing 66% of his passes
07:06through the touchdown.
07:07The yardage was there.
07:08I thought it was pretty touching to see everybody try to show the tributes to Terry.
07:15The receivers were all doing, you know, scary Terry's thing
07:19where he pulls off the face mask, the peekaboo, whatever that's called.
07:22You saw Jaden run over to the cameras and say, I see you, Terry.
07:25I see you, Terry.
07:26And I thought the receivers in this game played well.
07:29Hell yeah.
07:30Trey Burks.
07:31Trey Burks has, listen, bro.
07:34Trey, they say he lost some weight.
07:36Got himself in much better shape.
07:39He seems to be a different, he seems to be the receiver they drafted.
07:42That they thought he was going to be when he got drafted.
07:44You know, and I think sometimes.
07:46He was a baller in Arkansas.
07:48Yeah, he was.
07:49But like what happens sometimes, I say it all the time, guys get drafted
07:53and they say, boom, I made it.
07:55When you get drafted, that's where it starts.
07:58Now you got to up your level because like I said all the time in college,
08:02give me the best two teams out there.
08:04It's not 22 NFL players out there.
08:06Right.
08:06When you get to the NFL, I don't care what people say about a team,
08:10it's 22 NFL players.
08:11And you got to be much better than you were when you were in college.
08:15And guys sometimes forget that when they get to this league.
08:17They're like, I'm a pro now.
08:19And they feel like they can just rest on their laurels.
08:21No, no, no.
08:22If you were good last year, you got to be much better this year
08:24because that little hesitation you did in college ends up being an interception
08:28going the other way.
08:30Yeah, I mean, Trey dealt with a ton of injuries down there in Tennessee.
08:33Even was fighting injuries once he got here.
08:35But they hit the long shot to Trey Burks last night, which they really needed.
08:39You wish they could score six off that.
08:42First goal from the eight after the 53-yard gain to Burks.
08:46And they end up having to settle for three there.
08:49I thought Antonio Williams was really good.
08:51Five catches for 54 yards.
08:53I saw him going into the game.
08:54He's slippery.
08:55I said, I need a big one from you tonight.
08:57And he always called me OG.
08:58So, you know, I guess he means I'm old.
09:00So, he said, I got you.
09:02But that kid, man, from the moment he's gotten here, before he got here,
09:07you know, everybody was like, well, who is he going to be?
09:08We kept thinking.
09:09I said, look, dude stays open.
09:11He knows how to get separation.
09:12That's all you need to be in the receiver.
09:14And if you get to the NFL and you can get separation, get open, know how to utilize space.
09:20And this is what I love about him most.
09:23He understands, I may not get this ball.
09:27And this route is way in the back.
09:29But I have to run this route hard to do what I need to do to open it up for
09:33somebody else.
09:33So, when you got those guys that understand the whole concept of what a play is,
09:38we just look, oh, he got open in the back.
09:40He know the ball not coming to him.
09:42But he knows if I don't run this route, I'm going to allow somebody else to be able to come
09:46over the top
09:46and stop somebody else from getting the pass.
09:48And I recognize what Philly is.
09:51That's a depleted program right now.
09:53I mean, their leading receiver was the rookie, Makai Lemon.
09:56Then you're talking about dudes like Stowers, Goddard played all right.
10:00Saquon not at full strength, clearly.
10:02They still have their defense.
10:04Well, it's also like Dallas coughed one up to the Cardinals yesterday.
10:08Everybody's convinced the Cardinals are bad.
10:10They just keep sneaking wins.
10:11Hell yeah.
10:11The Titans took the Bengals to overtime.
10:14In the NFL, things happen every weekend.
10:17Any given Sunday.
10:19And everybody gets paid.
10:20There's no team out here that have guys on stipends.
10:25They all get paid big dollars.
10:27So, when we try to sit up here and just because the team isn't playing well,
10:30a lot of times it's simply chemistry.
10:33You know?
10:34It's simply guys have lost faith.
10:37And if you can keep it going and you keep fighting and you get everybody playing.
10:41Like, we've looked at this.
10:43This team has not played four quarters.
10:44No.
10:45They still didn't last night.
10:46And if they play four quarters in the game, if they have played four quarters in every game,
10:50what do you think the American could be?
10:52I don't know.
10:53It's a fair question.
10:54I don't know that answer.
10:55So, I'm just like, like, every team out there has NFL guys.
11:01They're good.
11:02Some of them just not playing their best.
11:05Some of them just can't get over the hump because they're mentally messed up.
11:08And then there are a lot of teams who make one mistake and can't get over it.
11:11There are other teams who can make the mistake and come back.
11:14You know, like, Jaden said last week, they asked him, what's the personality of this team?
11:20I think personality, that's the word I think they used.
11:22He said, we're going to always fight.
11:25They will fight.
11:27You know?
11:27And that's...
11:28Sometimes you don't want to get knocked out four times and you've got to win every round.
11:32You want to come out and start fighting from the beginning.
11:34That's a credit to Quinn, a credit to the players in that locker room.
11:37They stay together.
11:37They fight their way back.
11:39And that's why when things were going so bad, I had somebody text me towards the end of the first
11:44quarter.
11:46Somebody you know, I know, and knows football, knows the league.
11:50They just asked me, like, do you really think they would can Quinn after this game?
11:53I was like, if it keeps going like this, yes.
11:55I think it's a real possibility.
11:57And I was hearing that they might can the other guy on the side.
12:00Sure.
12:01I don't think they will.
12:03I think if you're Howie and you're watching that thing, McKee's not giving you enough to really win games.
12:09True.
12:09I think for Quinn, what I said in my text back to this person was, yeah, I think it's possible,
12:14but I also think they're going to come back and win this game.
12:16Yeah.
12:16Because it was only 10-0, and it never looked like Philly was going to run away with it.
12:21Yeah, it didn't look like they wanted it.
12:22Especially as Saquon was on the sideline doing backstretching or whatever.
12:25So my thing is this, though, Jay.
12:29I know you say Howie probably wouldn't, but if Howie's thinking about it, I've seen it in more than one
12:34place.
12:34So once I see it one time, I think it's a joke.
12:36I start seeing it multiple times.
12:38I start thinking, okay, it's something out there.
12:40If they trade Saquon, they're starting to think we're moving on.
12:43I think you could absolutely.
12:45They will be thinking it ain't about winning at that moment.
12:48Same thing the Eagles did in 2020 when they saw the writing on the wall, this is a lost season,
12:53and they actively lost games.
12:55Like when they pulled Hurts at halftime of that week, 8-17 game against Washington to put Sudfeld in.
13:02Like, Howie, most football people are all in to win that game that week.
13:09I think Howie approaches things with a broader mindset.
13:11I'm not saying what's right and what's wrong.
13:13I'm just saying they handle it differently.
13:15Be the way I look at last night's game, I'm curious what you think of this analogy.
13:19Washington desperately needed a win.
13:21Washington got a win.
13:22If you look at the standings now, they're a half game back of the Cowboys.
13:25Who had a horrific loss yesterday.
13:28I do think collectively we might be a little too dismissive of the Giants, who are at 4-2-1.
13:35They've got 10 games left.
13:38If they can go 500, if they can go 5-5, get some to 9.
13:419 sure feels like it might win this division.
13:43But whatever, that's something we'll see unfold.
13:46The Giants' schedule is about to get a lot more difficult.
13:48But just looking at Washington last night, you ever have a couple that the relationship is rocky?
14:00It doesn't seem all that healthy emotionally.
14:04It just doesn't seem like things are going great.
14:06And they take a weekend vacation.
14:09They go down to Florida for the weekend.
14:10Have a great time.
14:12Everything's cool.
14:12You still got to come home and figure your S out.
14:16You still got to figure out the trouble in the relationship if you're going to make this work.
14:20But Dan, you had a nice weekend in Florida.
14:22That, to me, is Washington last night.
14:24They still showed warts that better teams are going to take advantage of.
14:29But they were able to get the win.
14:31And that's what mattered last night.
14:33Everything else doesn't matter.
14:35You can't play that way and beat the Rams, I don't think.
14:38You can't play that way and beat the Rams, but hell, they won that game playing that way.
14:43Right.
14:44Which gives me much more hope in the fact that if they can play the way they're capable of playing.
14:49Give me the second part of that game for four quarters.
14:54I don't care if it's the Rams or whoever.
14:56They can beat them.
14:57Because when they play Seattle, Seattle came with their best.
15:03And they beat them.
15:04So, my thing is, whatever it takes, however it takes it to get it done, they got to figure out
15:12a way where the BS penalty's got to go.
15:16You know, you can't take one step forward and fall back.
15:21It's ridiculous, especially at this moment of the season.
15:25That has to be corrected.
15:27You know, somebody told me, man, they should come up with a fine type situation.
15:32Hell, I thought it was a joke.
15:34Hell, it might want to be one.
15:36You jump offside, a false start, a pre-snap penalty, 10 grand, 20 grand.
15:43You know what?
15:43And guess what?
15:44You go, oh, that's not a lot of money for them.
15:45Get three or four of them in the game.
15:49Totally.
15:50And I don't know what the answer is.
15:53There were nine accepted penalties last night.
15:56They were flagged 10 times.
15:58They made things more difficult on themselves repeatedly, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
16:03They were far from sharp, period.
16:06Yeah.
16:06Far from sharp.
16:08But what they had to do above all last night?
16:10Win.
16:11Get a win.
16:11The thing about the NFL, man, you're not going to play your best all the time, but you got to
16:14sometimes be able to win when you don't play your best.
16:17But it's amazing to me, like, I see the pre-snap penalties, I see the holes, then I look on
16:23the other side, and guess what?
16:25I saw a few times their left tackle and their right tackle were step, step, ball, snap, and they did
16:33not call any flag.
16:34It's amazing how they see everything with Boston, and they don't see everything with the other team.
16:38That's just weird to me.
16:40Sure, I think, like, last night the penalties that bothered me were the two ruffings on Chason.
16:48I thought Chason had a monster game, and...
16:50The one looked like he missed his helmet.
16:52It almost looked like maybe he got him as he was reaching his arm back.
16:56Yeah, when he hit the shoulder, went past the head, hit the shoulder pad, and when it bounced back, he
17:02grazed his helmet.
17:03That's not no damn roughing.
17:05Come on, man.
17:06We got to get past the softness.
17:08Please, I'm no legal expert, right?
17:11But I believe part of the reason judges are elected and appointed is because they understand rules.
17:18They understand the laws, but they also...
17:21It used to be like that, Jay.
17:22They also understand...
17:23We have a good friend that's a judge, right?
17:25Yeah.
17:25They also understand where they have room for interpretation and where the law is strictly the letter.
17:32Like, you commit this crime, you're going to do it at least this much time.
17:36But in other situations, you can interpret things based on what has transpired, right?
17:41And if you're these refs last night and you see that contact, maybe with the helmet, but it had zero
17:48bearing on the play whatsoever, did not injure...
17:51It wasn't malicious, didn't injure the quarterback.
17:53I just think that's a joke.
17:54Look, the previous one, where Chase had kind of hit him, then stood him up, then he started falling over,
18:00tried to stand McKee up again, and then McKee, to his credit, is smart and fell down.
18:05Yeah, yeah, yeah.
18:05Like, act.
18:06What are we doing?
18:07Yeah, I said it last time when somebody said it.
18:09I said, no, he did what he's supposed to do.
18:11He's supposed to roll and act at that moment.
18:14You know?
18:15But, hey.
18:16I think we're going to have two less callers today.
18:18We're supposed to have these two callers we're going to call in, Jay, if something happened the other way.
18:22But I guess they're going back to North Carolina, where they're tails between their legs.
18:27I don't know who they are, but I bet they'll still call.
18:29No, they won't.
18:30All right.
18:31You can tell me who it is in the break.
18:32Son and son-in-law.
18:33Oh.
18:36I believe that one.
18:37Were they at the game last night?
18:39No, it's probably too late for Bryce.
18:40Bryce, no.
18:41No, Willie and Deshaun were there.
