00:03Thousands of supermarkets across Europe have reported issues with their freezers and
00:07refrigerators on Monday that were apparently caused by cyber attacks. Temperatures of fridges
00:13and freezers turned up overnight, spoiling hundreds of thousands of euros worth of food.
00:19Supermarkets were affected in Belgium, Estonia, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Ireland,
00:24as well as this supermarket in Sweden.
00:44The incidents followed a similar incident last month in which control of refrigeration systems
00:49across France was taken over remotely. The CEO of Refrigeration Installer, Sab Cobell,
00:55told Belgian media the incident happened when the unit's evaporators were switched to defrost mode.
01:01He added a software update alone is not enough to address the vulnerability,
01:05with physical modifications required instead.
