Jessica Lange talks about how making movies has changed: “When I started work, the cameraman would set up for the scene [and] the director would be standing right next to the camera. There was a wonderful exchange of energy. Then, of course, video playback came in, and now it’s so removed. Oftentimes, you don’t even see the director on the set, which I think is very detrimental.”

00:00I was speaking about this earlier today.
00:02When I started work, I mean, the cameraman would set up the camera for the scene.
00:08The director would be standing right next to camera.
00:11So you could be just from here to, you know, 10 feet from him or 5 feet from him.
00:17Or if it's a close-up, you know, even close.
00:19And there was a wonderful exchange of energy.
00:22Then, of course, video playback came in and now it's, you know, so removed.
00:31Oftentimes you don't even see the director on the set.
00:34I think it's very detrimental because that exchange of energy,
00:38when you were there and the director was there with the actor playing scenes
00:43and the cameraman is there and he's like, there was a wonderful community.
