00:00So this is G for George, Lancaster bomber, very big star attraction in the War Memorial
00:06for many years.
00:07But what's different now is the context, all the things around it, the human stories,
00:14the electronics, the WISO electronics used to tell those stories.
00:20So here you've got the target was Bremen on the 21st of February 1943.
00:25Heavy cloud covered the city, the photographs of the raid about this image, searchlights
00:35Kona, British bomber during a raid on Bremen.
00:38So there's a whole heap of context to this thing.
00:43We've got a number of wartime logbooks that Australian prisoners of war kept during their
00:49time in prison and we've been able to, with technology, create really, really interesting
00:55multi-medias to bring those paper wartime logbooks to life.
01:00This is the story of a crew of Australians who were shot down over France and unusually
01:05they were captured.
01:06They weren't placed in a Stalag Luft, a prisoner of war camp for airmen.
01:11They were actually put into a concentration camp, thereby witnessing the Holocaust firsthand.
01:17It's a very, very unusual story.
01:19It's never been told here at the memorial and when the team for Bomber Command was stood
01:24up, one of the small stories they wanted to include was the experience of these men who
01:30really witnessed some appalling things, a depravity that humankind is capable of.
01:39So there are the costs of war, the Bushmaster troop carrier hit by a roadside bomb, the helmet cameras of
01:48Australian troops in the field, and to me the most moving exhibit, a shoe of the victim of a suicide
01:58bombing of a girl's school in Afghanistan, just because it was a girl's school.
