00:05We've got a week to go until the NFL trade deadline, and I think it's very fair to say
00:10the Giants are going to be buyers this season, not sellers. Why? Well, look at the standings.
00:16They're in first place in the NFC East, commanding lead over the Cowboys and Commanders and Eagles,
00:24and knowing John Harbaugh and how aggressive he wants to be, working in concert with Joe Shane,
00:31the general manager, the Giants want to add to this roster and really make a push
00:36in the final stretch of games here. What do they want to do? I believe their interest is twofold.
00:43Number one, do something to enhance their running game. That means add running backs,
00:48a running back. They also want to improve their run defense. That means adding an interior run
00:55stopper. Okay, running backs first, right? The guy who everyone wants to hear about is Jonathan Taylor.
01:01He is an absolute stud, 27-year-old from the Colts, great player at Wisconsin, great player in the NFL,
01:10was a rushing leader not many years ago. Now, why would the Colts trade him? Because the Colts are in
01:15free fall. They've already traded their great guard, Quinton Nelson. They've already traded their
01:19very good defensive tackle, DeForest Buckner. So they are in sell mode. Can Jonathan Taylor be
01:27acquired? Maybe. It's going to take a lot. Do the Giants want to give up a bunch of draft picks?
01:32Don't forget, the Giants only have five picks in the 2027 NFL draft. They have their first, second,
01:39and third. They don't have a fourth. They don't have a fifth. And they have two six-round picks.
01:43So they do not have a lot of draft equity to use here. But Jonathan Taylor is a difference-making
01:49running back. And if they could get him, he would instantly upgrade their running back situation.
01:54He would be RB1. Don't forget, John Halbaugh in the offseason took a look at Cam Scatterboy and
02:00Tyrone Tracy and Devin Singletary and said, okay, if we can go get Jeremiah Love in the draft, let's do
02:07that. So he's telling you what he thought about this running back stable the Giants have. Good players,
02:13but not the bell cow. Jonathan Taylor would certainly be that. Next level, how about Tony
02:18Pollard? The Giants are very familiar with him from his time with the Cowboys. He is now with the Titans.
02:24Titans are having a terrible year. They're probably in sell mode. And Tony Pollard, through it all,
02:31is on pace for his fifth straight 1,000-yard season. He would be an upgrade. And I could see
02:37Tony
02:37Pollard and Cam Scatterboy being a very interesting one-two punch for the Giants.
02:42Another very interesting name. How about Derrick Henry? A few years ago, John Halbaugh put in to
02:49sign Derrick Henry as a 29-year-old running back when Halbaugh was with the Ravens. And that turned
02:56out to be a great signing for the Ravens. So will Halbaugh do it again? Will he try to get
03:00Derrick Henry
03:01again? The Ravens are having a very poor season. Now Lamar Jackson's out for the year. So they could
03:07trade someone like Derrick Henry. Will they? We'll see. He's averaging a career low 4.0 yards per carry.
03:15He's on the decline, but he's leading the league in rushing attempts. He's got eight touchdowns. He's a
03:20stud. That would be more of a short-term fix. Jonathan Taylor would be more of a fix for this
03:27year
03:27and next year. So that's more exciting. Derrick Henry is a guy to look at if the Ravens are going
03:32to be in sell mode. Okay. Now, as far as defensive players, you have Grover Stewart from the Colts.
03:38We mentioned that the Colts should be in sell mode. Maybe Grover Stewart is a guy they can get.
03:43The Giants are really looking for an interior defensive lineman to pair with DJ Reader, who was
03:48a tremendous free agent acquisition. He's doing a really good job, but they're kind of
03:53lights there for that next defensive tackle, run-stopping presence. Grover Stewart would
04:01represent an upgrade. How about Dalvin Tomlinson, a former Giants first-round pick? The Chargers have
04:07not won a game, so Dalvin Tomlinson, he's coached by Jim Harbaugh. Jim could call John. They could get
04:13a deal done. It would help. A. Sean Robinson, former Giants player from a few years ago, is having a
04:20good
04:21year for the Bucs. Do the Bucs want to sell him? I don't know about that. Don't forget, the Giants
04:26were in on Jeffrey Simmons, the great player from the Titans who was traded to the Bears. Now,
04:32and John Harbaugh called the Titans' owner, did not get through to her, but left a message the Giants
04:37were interested in hearing about a Jeffrey Simmons trade. I'm not sure, as reports have indicated,
04:43they would have given up two first-round picks. I'm not so sure about that, but that's where we are.
04:47Running back, defensive tackle, that's the position the Giants want to add.
04:54They will be aggressive with John Harbaugh. It'll be very interesting to see how it goes from here.
