01:08we didn't even think Brian Burns was going to play he didn't practice all week with a left low ankle
01:14sprain he's listed as questionable I thought that was very optimistic he's a tough dude you know that
01:20he never missed a game for the Giants he wanted to play he takes his role seriously as a team

01:25felt he could be a situational pass rusher I think he was in for 25 snaps that's what you know

01:32in the game he's used as a situational pass rusher on third down then he was in once in a

01:37first down it's just an ordinary pass rush move he seemed to come free and then the former Giants
01:43center Austin Schlottman who is now the starting center for the Titans kind of moves over to block
01:48him so so Brian Burns's momentum is going forward he gets pushed back look like that knee buckled a
01:54little bit so this was not a non-contact injury John Harbaugh said afterwards you know we think
02:00maybe we dodge the worst as we know those kind of thoughts after a game are often not accurate
02:06pending an MRI so I think it's going to be the worst case scenario ACL and this is a hard

02:26Abdul Carter but you can't replace Brian Burns he was by far and away their best player last year

03:39the first three games of this season and looking ahead Paul how was Denard Wilson has to figure out
03:46the way to pressure the quarterback there's a there's I mean did you see Cam Ward yesterday at
03:51one point just sitting back there hanging out playing backyard football and I believe the Giants
03:56only have one sack on the season I don't know how many times they pressured him but Abdul Carter has

04:02one sack I'm I was worried about them going in to this game all right how are they going to

04:09how are they going to get pressure on Cam Ward if he's a quarterback if he gets hot he can

04:13carve up this defense but now looking forward that's that's a huge blow if they potentially lose
04:19Brian Burns for the season yes with him their pass rush was with Brian Burns the pass rush was not
04:25good enough no sacks against Cam Ward now Cam Ward got the ball out a little faster than he usually
04:31does but there were opportunities there there were definitely opportunities two quarterback hits
04:36as you mentioned Abdul Carter the only sack in three games that just can't happen
04:41so moving forward you know like I said Kayvon's going to start we saw Arvel Reese rush the passer
04:48on a couple of occasions in the game they can certainly do that now you're taking Arvel Reese out of

04:55comfort zone because he had his best game of his three-year NFL career with 12 tackles and just
05:01you know when he gets his hands on you you don't go anywhere you know you know you know it's

05:06you know you know you know he he puts you down you know he puts you down and he puts
05:09you down with
05:10violence and with force and like I said if he gets his hands on you you're not getting anywhere so
05:15but he can rush the passer he showed that at Ohio State last year I'm disappointed with Abdul
05:21Carter there are times he just seems to get swallowed up by this offensive tackles you know he really does
05:26he's not big um he's got great bend and a first step but he's just not getting home often enough
05:32you know he's got some pressures but it's not good enough um Chauncey Golston is more of a of a
05:39run
05:39stopping edge guy I don't know what they do do they manufacture it with uh by Denard Wilson sending
05:46certain pressures that has not really paid off this year so it's a big problem moving forward you know
05:52the Giants won a game um and and um uh I talked to Jermaine Illuminar after the game and he

05:58I would have lost it if we lost this game you know I mean he and I think that's the
06:03feeling a lot of
06:03people felt you know what I mean they were up 12 nothing uh they should have put the way the

06:08away several times on offense one touchdown and the game's put away they couldn't do it I think a lot
06:14of people would have lost it if Cam Ward puts the ball in the end zone there in the last
06:1830 seconds
06:19instead of Javon Holland coming up at the interception but the lack of a pass rush is
06:24a major major issue now moving forward especially when we're talking about a secondary that's already
06:31banged up don't know when Taye Banks is going to come back in Paulson Adebo the other guy who came
06:36in
06:36last offseason for a lot of money he's on IR Javon Holland has been the bright spot out of all
06:45of just
06:45the chaos the injuries you know the loss on Monday night um Javon Holland is playing like an all pro
06:54and
06:56you wonder because you you can start off hot at the beginning of a season then you can kind of
07:01not so much phase out but you kind of cool down this defense can't afford for him to cool down

07:06dude has been a turnover machine he's been a guy that has has been the bright spot on this defense
07:13so
07:13far and it's just to interview him after the game in the end zone I mean uh uh in in
07:20the arena
07:20and seeing the energy and all he's he's now that leader to step in with Brian Burns being being down
07:27now I know the secondary they follow him but now as a defense as a whole and the team as
07:32a whole
07:34I don't Paul I don't this is when we talk about Denard Wilson and and how great of a coordinator
07:41he is
07:41and he's better than Shane Bowen and the Giants lucked up when it came to their coordinators
07:46he's really really having to go into his bag of tricks early because you know guys are guys are
07:54dropping and now that you've lost uh Brian Burns is there any point in that game yesterday Paul
08:02were you I don't want to say I got you because you mentioned the Giants had a chance to put

08:10where was a turning point for you in that game to where you're like oh no no don't you just

08:17the door you let the back door open you left the back door unlock and now you're giving Tennessee

08:27um and I thought they got way too cute with with the wildcat to their you know the Giants they

08:35not running it crazy you know they had what 33 rushing attempts 138 yards 4.2 yard you know the
08:41longest run was Jameis Winston 15 yards and they certainly cannot an offense cannot be sustained by
08:46Jameis Winston's legs but you know Cam Scatter who ran hard did not get a lot of yards 60 yards

08:53carries Najee Harris was more efficient nine for 52 so they're running the ball they're running the ball and
09:00I you know that the wildcat direct snap to Cam Scatterboot now he's got to take it and go so
09:07he took it he hesitated it looked like he was trying to throw the ball right which he wasn't
09:12but he was drifting to the right and I saw right afterwards he lost what seven yards on the play
09:17five yards on the play when I saw that and they squandered that chance to get a touchdown by just
09:22running it down your throats or maybe trying some kind of play action try to hit a tight end you

09:28you have to trust Jameis to do something you know they didn't trust him for a lot of the game
09:32when I saw that I said how much you know are they going to win this game without a touchdown
09:35are they
09:36going to win this game with 12 points I did not feel the Giants were going to pitch a shutout
09:40I mean
09:41the Giants defense with no pass rush they're not going to pitch a shutout and they didn't it was seven
09:46they're 12 seven and then the Giants could not and so so when Cam Scatterboot gets dropped for that
09:52big loss they have to kick a field goal I had a bad feeling and when they could not do
09:56what they did in
09:57the opener which was run out the clock on offense with their four minute drill I said boy giving the
10:02ball back no it's not giving the ball back to Dak Prescott or Matthew Stafford it's giving the ball
10:07back to Cam Ward but the defense was kind of reeling then Burns was out you just got the sense

10:13weren't you know they gave up one first down they allowed one first down in the first half that was
10:18not the case in the second half so I had a bad feeling there they were going to come down
10:23and score and
10:24they darn near did they really darn near did and if you know Javon Holland we've seen guys Giants
10:30have that opportunity end zone and not catch the ball right you know Drew Phillips had a chance for
10:34an interception he dropped it um you don't if Javon Holland does not catch the ball the Giants probably
10:40lose oh we just got some breaking news just now Giants just traded for J.J. McCarthy that just broke
10:47they just while we're shooting this podcast right now guys this news just broke um let's get your
10:53let's get your live reactions and your thoughts because I know you're going to have to go off and
10:58uh and start writing and calling people and stuff like that live reactions to Giants just traded for
11:04J.J. McCarthy well um you know coming out of the draft they did not consider him with the number
11:09three
11:09pick right you know they wanted a quarterback and they they desperately but they did not take a
11:14quarterback they couldn't get Cam Ward I think they had a second round grade on J.J. McCarthy
11:19they had some issues with his mental makeup I know that but he's a talented guy so they weren't going
11:24to take him at number three and they were not going to trade up for him at 25 which is
11:29what they got
11:29Jackson Dart now no team was going to trade their backup to the Giants you need a backup quarterback
11:36J.J. McCarthy had dropped so low in the pecking order in Minnesota that he was their number three
11:41quarterback so to get a number three quarterback who's 23 years old he's the same age as Jackson
11:47Dart he has talent he can run right he can run so he gives you an option of running with
11:52the ball
11:53so they're going to bring him in is he a a fit for the New York limelight I do not
11:58think so
11:59but he's going to be a backup quarterback the Giants looked at this and said
12:04we have Jake Hayner standing in the way one play of way of Jameis Winston getting hurt Jake Hayner is
12:11our starting quarterback that is not tenable so we have to get someone in here who we feel is better
12:17than Jake Hayner they feel J.J. McCarthy is better than Jake Hayner so he will come in he'll probably
12:24be
12:24third string until he gets up to speed on the playbook that should come hopefully relatively quickly
12:31and then he'll be the backup quarterback and then you can put him in maybe in certain packages
12:36because he can run the ball he's a pretty good runner you know he was dreadful with the Vikings
12:40dreadful and injury prone so you know for them to give up on a the number 10 pick in the
12:46draft like this
12:47with with Kevin O'Connell who's a darn good quarterback guy that is a red flag but he's not coming
12:54to be
12:54the savior he's coming to be the backup and that has to be known they're not saying J.J. McCarthy
13:00will compete with Jackson Dart next year he won't Jackson Dart could be ready in four to five months
13:06he should be fine for the spring but this is a guy you can bring in who has talent more
13:12talent than
13:12what they had at the position hope he can learn the system and if anything happens he can come in
13:17and play at an adequate level which he barely did and usually did not do for the Vikings so you
13:24know
13:24probably the best of a a tough opportunity situation for what was out there
13:29and New York isn't the place where you come for new opportunity and fresh beginnings you know like
13:36especially with everything that you just said about you know Kevin O'Connell the QB fixer he fixed
13:42Daniel Jones got Daniel Jones paid by the Colts Sam Darnold fixed Sam Darnold got Sam Darnold
13:48paid by by the the Seattle Seahawks even went on to win a Super Bowl so you're wondering there's an
13:54asterisk there but at the end of the day I'm with you if I'm Malik Neighbors if I'm Malachi Fields
14:00nothing against Jay Kaner I just want another guy at least a name I want a name in that QB

14:07feel as though could be competent enough if Jameis does go down to where we're already a running
14:15football team that's the identity so 50 60 percent of the play calls are going to be run first but
14:22then now if you throw in a quarterback that maybe Matt Nagy and these guys don't feel overly confident
14:29with putting the football in his hands and third and mediums and manageables so now you're running
14:34screens and draws and uh now you could I could see a Malik Neighbors and those guys getting frustrated
14:41so it's great to bring in okay he's in it's ready to go um but you know hopefully this is

14:50this this helps this helps uh going forward Paul I know you got to run final thoughts to button up

14:55uh Sunday's win well look they had to win the game you know they had losing game was not was

15:01not an option I mean you can't lose to the Titans at home after having a 12-0 lead so
15:06they won the game um Jameis Winston did not look great the conditions were bad so you got to give
15:12him a little bit of an asterisk there um his arm does not look you know he doesn't look like

15:16gunslinger you know I understand their their heart putting it into his head don't turn the ball over
15:21don't turn the ball over Cam Ward had one turnover and they lost the game Jameis Winston had no turnovers
15:26and they won the game so there is something to be said there um I would say that the Giants
15:31will not
15:31win another game this year if they don't score a touchdown okay I will say that starting next week
15:36against the Cardinals Jameis Winston has to be better they're going to have to throw the ball
15:40more effectively and more efficiently um the J.J. McCarthy thing is news it's big news but it's not
15:46imminent news for this week and probably not even next week um they want Jameis Winston to be their
15:52starting quarterback that's why they signed him to a two-year 13 million dollar contract this gives him
15:58a this gives the Giants a better option they think moving forward Jackson Dart was the real option and
16:05these are all secondary options but two and one is a lot better than one and two they have a
16:10game they
16:10can win next week just figure out a way to win these games that's all there is to it and
16:15you know try to
16:16get through this as best they can um there probably won't be a nor-easter next week and you know
16:20on we
16:21go but you know two and one is certainly where they want to be at this point um regardless of
16:26how they
