00:04The ocean is sort of Earth's final frontier, and there are still great mysteries relating to our planet's deep and
00:09often diverse waters.
00:11And one of those mysteries involves these, tiny holes that run in near perfectly straight lines on the ocean floor.
00:16They were discovered in an area of the northern mid-Atlantic ridge, part of a large and relatively unexplored area
00:21of the ocean.
00:22And they were found at depths of around 1.6 miles.
00:24And now the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration researchers who found them are looking for help trying to
00:30figure out what they are.
00:31They tweeted that the experts were stumped by the sublinear set of holes because they appear human-made.
00:36What's really crazy is that a week later they discovered four more sets, but those were 300 miles away.
00:42The researchers say that the holes weren't punctured but rather excavated, meaning something dug the sand out of these tiny
00:47pits.
00:48NOAA researchers also attempted to literally poke around in them, but were unsuccessful with their robotic submersible.
00:53But these weren't the first sublinear holes marine scientists have ever found.
00:57They were first sighted in 2004, and they've baffled experts ever since.

01:03And so we will have to consider how tiny little brooks of acids.
