00:00A UK study of so-called forever chemicals in people is being launched to help assess
00:05possible health risks. The UK Health Security Agency will analyse blood and urine samples
00:11for PFAS as well as substances including lead and arsenic. PFAS are used in products such as
00:17non-stick cookware, clothing and firefighting foam and can persist in the environment.
00:22The agency says current evidence suggests health impacts are likely to be limited,
00:27although studies have linked higher exposure with raised cholesterol and lower birth weights.
00:34The research will establish baseline levels in the population.
00:39Officials say it will help build evidence about exposure and long-term health.
