00:00I've asked you this question a few times this season,
00:02but on a more positive note after that game,
00:05can you just describe your emotions and feelings after the game?
00:08Yeah, proud of a lot of people actually, proud of the players.
00:13I think they deserve a lot of credit for pulling through that in a tough situation.
00:20And for the supporters to be there, I could feel they were desperate for us to give them something
00:25so they could get their teeth into, and frustrated and disappointed as we all were going in at half-time.
00:34I spoke to the players about the second half, about what this place can do in moments,
00:39and one moment can really flip it.
00:41We came out the second half really well, just stayed really positive through the whole second half.
00:45So to see it come through and so many positives and how to keep going to get that at the
00:53end,
00:54I'm really pleased for an awful lot of people for that one.
00:57It's one win, so we're not getting too carried away with things,
01:00but it was an important one for us.
01:02How pleased are you to see that reaction at half-time,
01:05and maybe look a bit further forward, use the word fresh start after Leeds.
01:09How much can this really be fresh start and really build some momentum,
01:13maybe going into Sunday and hopefully on this?
01:15Yeah, well, exactly that. I'm not getting too carried away with things.
01:20I think it was an important night, I think it was important for some of the players
01:23to have the feeling that they maybe haven't had here before.
01:26Some of the lads that came this year, some of the boys that came even last year,
01:30maybe haven't had a feeling of that.
01:34So I think it's important for them to know what that means and how it feels.
01:38It's pretty obvious to say, but until you've really gone through it and felt it
01:42and had to dig deep and come out the other side,
01:44sometimes you don't know what it's like.
01:47But we've got to take stock, we've got to stay calm and prepare
01:51and be ready for another big game on the weekend.
01:54Hi Michael, what do you see from that second half
01:56that you can kind of build a platform on now moving forward?
01:59Because the final performance we've not really seen at times this season,
02:02there's a lot of anger in there in a way from the players.
02:05How do you kind of build on that into a 90-minute performance
02:09and maybe a game that's a little bit calmer now?
02:11Yeah, I mean, on the face of it, the first half, the score and moments
02:16and that, it maybe didn't look good, didn't feel good at certain times.
02:22I actually thought at the start of the game, initially we started all right.
02:27They're a good team and they played man for man pretty much all over the pitch,
02:30so it's always tough to find solutions, to find the spaces.
02:34It was always going to be a bit sticky.
02:36We give them the opportunities, really too much space, soft opportunities.
02:42But I felt that we were coming into the game, we were getting around their box enough
02:45in the first half as it was progressing to give us a lot of encouragement.
02:49And I just said about not getting too disappointed about what goes wrong
02:53because of the way they play.
02:54They're going to stop you a lot of the time
02:56and you've got to keep believing that there's moments enough, if anything.
03:01Probably getting too frustrated and disappointed within the game
03:04and we certainly didn't do that second half.
03:06There was enough to get disappointed and frustrated with,
03:08but we didn't let ourselves do that.
03:09Bruno had to go again, Carlos to start with, having to come off.
03:15Uri was fantastic when he came on.
03:16Bruno happened to retake the penalty, didn't get disappointed.
03:19Brian's chance, two corners where we could have scored from.
03:22There was plenty of moments to feel sorry for himself,
03:24but we didn't let ourselves do that.
03:26And I think that was the big difference in the supporters.
03:29I've said it though, they're desperate to go with us on something
03:32and we definitely give them that tonight.
03:35Can you just ask about Shea as well?
03:36I know the title is going to get a lot of headlines,
03:37but it felt like coming to that game at 2-1,
03:40it felt like a kind of great performance for a 19-year-off.
03:44Yeah, again, not going too over the top,
03:46but at the same point absolutely delighted for Shea.
03:50We love him a bit, he's a great young man,
03:54he's desperate to do well, he's got great ability,
03:57so in terms of coming inside and finding the pass,
04:00that's not surprising, he's got that little glint in his eye
04:04and he plays with a bit of mischief if you like,
04:08so he's always looking to have that.
04:10But I was just as happy seeing him defending as a right-back
04:13when we needed that and they're the moments when,
04:16as a rounded footballer, you've got to be able to do that.
04:19So I was just as pleased seeing him do that on the defensive side
04:24and seeing younger players take the opportunity.
04:28I think you give everybody a bit of a lift coming on the pitch,
04:30it was fantastic to see he made the most of what he had tonight.
04:34Hi Michael, congratulations on the win, did you see the banner
04:37by the tunnel at half-time to play like you mean it?
04:41I didn't, to be honest, at half-time I was...
04:44I mean it's appeared before, and I think Scott and Tommy said a few years ago
04:47that the players did clock it, but given the way the crowd was,
04:52because there were some interceptions that some of the players did get booed,
04:55do you think that the players did feed off the crowd in the end and how the crowd worked?
04:59The players did 100 per cent feed off the crowd,
05:02in absolutely no doubt whatsoever, the feed off the crowd and the supporters.
05:06I understand there's frustration and disappointment, I totally get that.
05:09Going back to the way the supporters were with us at Chelsea on the weekend
05:13and struggling in that second half, 2-0 down with ten men,
05:17they were there, they were totally there.
05:20Probably the time when it was easy for them not to be there, they were there.
05:24I felt even that there was frustration, of course there was,
05:27but I know what they're like and we've got to give them something to go on,
05:31and to be fair to the boys, they did second half,
05:34and then that's when everyone feeds off each other
05:37and we've got to keep giving them enough for them to be there for us.
05:42Michael, what did you actually say at half-time?
05:45Because the atmosphere was mute and it was easy for the players to feel as though it couldn't happen,
05:52and also what did you feel in the moment when Bruno missed that first?
06:01At half-time I was wanting them to be more positive, if anything,
06:07and not getting too disappointed and frustrated.
06:09The easiest thing is when you keep trying to do something,
06:11feeling sorry for yourself and if something goes wrong you get disappointed.
06:15I think that's not going to help anybody.
06:17We might as well all go home if that's the case.
06:20We've got to keep looking for the next moment, the next solution.
06:25I don't like to keep talking to the lads about what this place can do and history
06:29and what's gone before them too much, but it's there, this place does magical things,
06:34it's done it before and it'll do it over and over again at some point in the future
06:38because talking about the supporters, there's just something in this place
06:42that when we do have these type of nights we do it the hard way,
06:46but if one moment can flip the whole place in a whole different direction
06:50and a whole different feeling, and I spoke about that with the boys,
06:54and let's have one moment that can trigger it, and we had that.
06:57We had more than one moment and that's what you get from the end of it.
07:04Yeah, well it felt a little bit of like, I mean I didn't chuckle, I didn't smile,
07:09I wasn't happy about it, but it felt almost like a bit of a chuckle of like,
07:14there's another moment really, but at the same time I was quite calm
07:18because I had a feeling that the boys were there and they were in a place
07:24leaving the changing room that they felt something could happen.
07:27I have to say for Bruno to double-take that penalty and go again,
07:31that's not necessarily an easy play, so for him to have the mentality and finish that,
07:37he deserves a lot of credit for that.
07:39Hi Mike, congratulations.
07:42Talking about feeling back in the 50s, I think many people have got 11 cards to play before,
07:47what's the situation now?
07:49I know we can do the red card, but is that the kind of live-wide performance you want from
07:54Mateus?
07:54Can you look forward on for a slow start to the season?
07:58I haven't got any more news on Carlos at this stage, but obviously it's his hamstring,
08:03so we'll just have to assess what that looks like.
08:06Initially it doesn't look great, timelines I haven't got much more to give you.
08:13I thought the way Uri stepped into the game showed everything he's about.
08:18He's not at the ideal start here in terms of the team and the run that we've been on,
08:22but his personality, his character and stepping into the team like he did
08:25just showed everything what he's about.
08:27He's a top, top human being and I love having him around for everything that he brings.
08:35Massively impressed with Uri and the way he came into the game.
08:40Mateus can do them things, he's got them moments.
08:46We put him inside, we swapped him with Brian at half-time to try and get him in the middle
08:49of the pitch
08:50to try and give us a little bit of a different shape and put him in the centre of the
08:53pitch.
08:55He found himself in good positions, disappointed with how it finished,
08:59but again just shows how much he cares and he's willing to do.
09:03When he's in that frame of mind, he's in that mood and he plays like that,
09:08that's why we want him here.
09:09Last question for Rob.
09:11I know you said that all of this is bigger than you and it's never been about you personally,
09:14but do you feel a sense of relief personally?
09:17Do you come to night and sleep a little bit easier?
09:20Generally no, I don't really.
09:24Whether that's right or wrong or normal or not, I don't know.
09:27I didn't feel relief, I was genuinely pleased for the players.
09:32I know how much they care, I know what they're giving.
09:35Sometimes it looks like that, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes we play well, we haven't.
09:38I understand that, but I could feel the willingness to do well
09:42and so for them to have to dig really deep and just for everybody.
09:47I feel the responsibility of that, so to see everybody having that feeling
09:50that we all crave and that's why we're all here,
09:54I really 100% wasn't thinking about me at that moment.
09:58It was just more seeing everybody and the feeling that we can generate when we do things right.
10:03Alright guys, cheers.
10:04Thanks.
10:04Good morning.
10:05You're welcome.
