00:00What an incredible night it has already shaping up to be.
00:03I could not be prouder to be with you to make sure that we have victories up and down the
00:08ballot
00:09because I believe this is the night that historians will say things started to turn for the better in the
00:15United States of America in the 2020s.
00:19I've been traveling this great land, I've been traveling this great state just a couple days ago,
00:24sat at the dining room table in our house and made sure that our five-year-old twins, Gus and
00:30Penelope, came over.
00:31I said, you've got to watch this. I said, what are you doing? Why are you coloring, Papa?
00:35I said, this isn't coloring. This is the most important thing that a citizen can do.
00:40And I pulled out the ballot and I wanted them to see it when I filled in that little circle
00:45for our next U.S. Senator, Abdul El-Sayed.
00:51I wanted them to see it when I filled in that little circle for our next Governor, Jocelyn Benson.
00:58I wanted to see those little circles fill in to elect a Democratic U.S. House of Representatives.
01:07And to make sure that our State House and State Senator are in the right hands and all those other
01:12great offices up and down the ticket.
01:14And I'll admit that the twins did not make it through to the school board candidates and the constitutional questions.
01:21But I did, and I know you did, and I know you did everything in your power to turn out
01:26every single vote for victory tonight.
01:32You mobilized the fired-up Democrats.
01:35You invited in the disaffected independents.
01:39And you helped us create a whole bunch of what I like to call future former Republicans who were ready
01:45to join our coalition.
01:47We didn't go out there and say, I told you so.
01:50We went out there and said, join us and we will make things better.
01:53Not just better than today, but better than before, and we are not going to the old status quo either.
02:03We showed that this is not a 50-50 country when it comes to the idea that health care ought
02:09to be a right for every single American, not a privilege for a few.
02:15We showed that America and Michigan are not closely divided when it comes to the idea that billionaires and trillionaires
02:23ought to pay at least as high a tax level as school teachers and nurses and firefighters in this country.
02:31We reminded everybody that there is a super majority of Americans and Michiganders who believe that the wealthiest economy in
02:39the world ought to have the best public schools in the world.
02:45And that money has no place in our politics and partisan gerrymandering has no place in our electoral system.
02:54Folks, the results are still coming in, but to put it very, very mildly, I'd rather be us right now.
03:03Now, we know we've got a lot of work to do.
03:05We're going to have to work to deliver.
03:07We're going to have to face the fact that the White House is going to be in the wrong hands
03:11for two more years.
03:12But even this White House will have to hear the powerful message that we sent from the state of Michigan
03:18and from communities across the country.
03:20They can't ignore the American people no longer because we have the last word when it comes to election night.
03:29So all I'm here to say is thank you, thank you, thank you for doing everything in your power to
03:36make life better in this country.
03:38To make sure that when they ask us, including my little kids, ask us what the hell was going on
03:44in America in the 2020s,
03:46we'll say, yeah, things got pretty unpleasant for a while, but look at what we did next.
03:50Look at what we did starting that November night in the fall of 2026 to make sure that America moved
03:58in the right direction.
03:59Thank you for making that possible.
04:01And let's make sure we show everybody we get that the work has just begun.
04:07Keep it up.
04:07Let's celebrate.
04:08Savor this moment.
04:09And we'll take it from here.
04:11Thank you, Michigan.
