00:00Flying in Europe could get a lot more expensive next year. Ryanair's chief executive expects
00:05European airfares to climb as much as 20% in 2027. The reason is fuel. Jet fuel prices have
00:12been extremely volatile since conflict broke out in the Middle East. Jet fuel averaged about $99
00:17a barrel the day before the war began. By early April, it had more than doubled to $209. Today,
00:24the global average hovers around $196 a barrel. Tight supplies of the refined fuel are adding to
00:31the pressure. Airline industry group IATA expects fuel to make up nearly a third of airline costs
00:37this year. That's up from about a quarter in 2025. Carriers have already cut some flights and raised
00:43fares and baggage fees. Ryanair doesn't expect fares to fully cover its higher fuel bill.
