It’s the word taking over social media, but do you know what it means to be ‘mogged’? Collins Dictionary has named ‘mogging’ its Word of the Year, recognising a term that has become increasingly popular online. It’s all about outshining or outclassing someone, often when it comes to looks, appearance or even confidence. It seems this latest bit of internet lingo is making its way into the mainstream - but does everyone know what it means? Here’s what some Leeds locals have to say about the word.

00:00I guess you can use mogging in a number of different contexts but like the one I use it the
00:04most in is if someone's done something better than me in like the same area, I don't know, so if
00:12someone's, it's like, I don't know, I'm wearing the same top as someone and they just look better than they've
00:17mogged me. But I use it so, I use it every day, 100%.
00:21Mogging, I've not heard of that word. Erm, I feel like it could mean, oh god I don't even know,
00:30erm, mob.
00:34Yes, we've both heard of that.
00:36Definitely heard that one.
00:37You want to go with it?
00:38Yeah, that's like, making your face as like, looks maxing as possible, like, almost like that.
00:46Yeah, like the chin, the door lines, you want to be like, very, what's it, Chad?
00:51Yeah, yeah, looks maxing, you know, that kind of stuff.
00:54It's just like any of these words, it's kind of like, social media 100% has a big, erm, like
01:02play in it.
01:03I think mogging 100% came from like social media, erm, and I guess all the new words nowadays will,
01:10will come from social media as well.
01:12I would say it coined within the last two years.
01:15Er, I would say also it's more with the younger generation, especially with social media.
01:21Er, but it's, it's a silly, it's not a serious term, in my opinion.
01:25It's very, it's very like recent, I would say, yeah, it's a very new term.
