00:21I
00:21mean it's hard to even describe in words how thrilled and happy we are. I can't
00:26think of a single better human being to be elected to represent us in Michigan, in
00:35America. Just overcoming all the hatred, the lies, the vitriol. For Michiganders to stand
00:45up and to reject that outright, it makes us so proud to be from this state.
00:58He's probably one of the most empathetic people that we have ever come across in terms of
01:05a politician. I mean, very much a straight shooter. He's got that Michigan grit and that
01:11Michigan scrappiness that he says things. He says what he means. He stays on message.
01:17And he doesn't. All that noise and all the vitriol and all the hate, he ignored it.
01:29Our politics have to be so much bigger than the narrowness of the Republican Party these
01:34days. And I think it has to be so much bigger than the baseline racism that feels deeply entrenched
01:40in the politics that they often are defaulting to. And I think that's what I find really
01:45disappointing in not having a real sincere strategy for progress in the future. The past
01:51two years have been wasted. And I think that that to me feels like the really disappointing
01:55part of my youth. I have not had a presidential election without Donald Trump on the ballot.
02:02And to me, this is a really great idea of what the future looks like without him. And it looks
02:08like one of diversity, of curiosity, of creativity. That's what I'm excited about.
02:13The way he handled it with such grace was just amazing for all of us. He made it about his
02:20identity, but for me it was about his principles and values and his ethics. And I think that's
02:24what pulled the American people in, not just his Muslim identity. It's what he stood for.
02:29Seeing a figure like Abdul come on the national scene, I'm feeling relief. I'm thinking thank
02:36God. I'm thinking finally. And I'm thinking it's decades in the making. I believe that Abdul
02:42is a representative of this reaction to a moment that demands for more action, that demands
02:51more people that are underrepresented to speak up, to stand up and to come from the communities
02:56that they claim to represent. So he really is a symbol of what the next generation is looking
03:01for in terms of our leadership.
03:02of our leadership.
03:29Yeah, exactly.
03:32I can't do it.
03:39That was good.
04:04I mean, it's hard to even describe in words how thrilled and happy we are.
04:08I can't think of a single better human being to be elected to represent us in Michigan, in America.
04:19Just overcoming all the hatred, the lies, the vitriol.
04:25You know, for Michiganders to stand up and to reject that outright, it's just so, it makes us so proud
04:31to be from this state.
04:39The way he handled it with such grace was just amazing for all of us.
04:45He made it about his identity, but for me it was about his principles and values and his ethics.
04:49And I think that's what pulled the American people in, not just his Muslim identity.
04:54It's what he stood for.
04:55Seeing a figure like Abdul come on the national scene, I'm feeling relief.
05:01I'm thinking, thank God.
05:02I'm thinking, finally.
05:04And I'm thinking it's decades in the making.
05:07I believe that Abdul is a representative of this reaction to a moment that demands for more action,
05:15that demands more people that are underrepresented to speak up, to stand up,
05:21and to come from the communities that they claim to represent.
05:24So, he really is a symbol of what the next generation is looking for in terms of our leadership.
05:28And I'm thinking, yeah.
05:38Thank you very much.
