00:00The Middle East is home to some of the world's biggest airlines, but regional conflict has disrupted flights and driven
00:06up costs.
00:07Now, more than 200 aviation leaders are meeting here in Doha to discuss the challenges facing the industry and the
00:14flight path ahead.
00:15A projected $4.3 billion loss.
00:19That's what the Arab Air Carriers Organization is forecasting for its member airlines this year, as industry leaders gather in
00:26Doha.
00:26We remain committed to bringing Arab Airlines closer together, sharing knowledge and experience, and working together to address the challenges
00:35we face.
00:36Emirates says it's bouncing back after months of disruption.
00:40We managed to put the airline back to almost, I would say, 91 percent of the capacity recovered.
00:46We recovered almost the network back to where we left it, almost 98 percent.
00:51Aviation security firm MedAir provides airlines with real-time intelligence to help them assess risks and keep flights operating safely.
01:00A lot of those events today are beyond the control of airlines and are due to regional events.
01:05But the air carriers are building great level of resilience to continue to fly and to get people from A
01:12to B safely.
01:13There's also a dispute over Europe's plans to expand its carbon emissions rules.
01:17From 2029, the European Commission wants to extend its carbon trading system to flights leaving Europe for destinations within 5
01:25,000 kilometers of Frankfurt.
01:27Arab Airlines say the proposal unfairly targets certain routes, infringes on national sovereignty, and could drive up picket prices.
01:35So this is extraterritoriality, trespassing on the sovereignty of others.
01:41And that applies for all the countries within that 5,000 radius, which are basically, you start from Turkey through
01:50Iraq down to up to Dubai, up to Sudan, Egypt, up to Morocco.
02:01Meanwhile, Qatar Airways is increasing flights to European destinations.
02:05Europe remains a key market for Qatar Airways.
02:09This winter, increasing flights to major cities, including London Heathrow and Frankfurt, giving traveller flexibility and better connection through Doha
02:17to our global network.
02:19And despite the challenges, airlines are looking for common ground.
02:23It's good to have a healthy competition going on while we work together.
02:27Despite a turbulent year, airlines across the region are still looking to expand.
02:32The challenge now is managing rising costs and ongoing disruptions while planning for future growth.
