00:00What were spas like in L.A. and in California when you first started?
00:05It was literally red light. It was all prostitution.
00:08And so being fingerprinted and mugshotted, people didn't want to rent space to us.
00:14It just didn't exist. The legitimate massage did not exist.
00:18It took a little while, but it caught on so quickly.
00:36It's such a beautiful thing to celebrate 40 years.
00:39Looking at all the lives we've touched, we touch about 30,000 people a month.
00:46It was really understanding a need.
00:49I had this need. I had a baby and a baby and a baby, and I just needed to, I
00:54needed a place to get away.
00:56And he said, what if we created one right in the middle of the city because there was no place
01:01like this.
01:02We owned other businesses before this, and we used to travel quite a bit.
01:06And we'd go to spas as part of our vacation, one of the segments of our vacation.
01:12And that's where we'd get a massage.
01:13And we'd come back feeling, oh my gosh, this was great.
01:17I feel completely different than I did when I left.
01:21It did what it was supposed to do.
01:23And then we'd come back to the city, and, you know, three kids, and just the hectic lifestyle in a
01:31city.
01:31And we thought, we need a massage.
01:34And we couldn't find any.
01:35You know, we opened up the yellow pages and looked for a place where massage was all prostitution.
01:39So we thought, well, why not incorporate what we really enjoy on vacation and bring the concept that we know
01:49a lot of other people enjoy and bring it to the city.
01:53And so we created the first urban day spa.
01:58So we thought, well, what about your education is, and we're in the community.
