03:17Prove I'm alright song.
03:32Good evening, Trinidad and Tobago, our global audience.
03:35And of course, our brothers and sisters in Grenada.
03:38This is Beyond the Tape.
03:39And I'm your host, Whitney Husbands.
03:41We are smack in the middle of the week.
03:43So that means only one thing.
03:45It's Legally Speaking Wednesdays.
03:46And of course, it's time for you to open that legal mind that we always have to tap into.
03:51To make sure that we are knowledgeable about the laws of Trinidad and Tobago.
03:56And the person to guide us.
03:57Our professor, when it comes to the law or the laws of Trinidad and Tobago.
04:02It's a gentleman who is always willing to be prepared to guide us.
04:06Prepared to teach us.
04:07And he's always open to learning as well.
04:09So with us, we have our Tenient Law and Director of Paxo.
04:12We have Mr. Ali.
04:14Good evening to you, Sue.
04:15Or I should say, Professor Ali.
04:17Well, Whitney, thank you very much.
04:18Every week, I'm elevated.
04:19You know, I'm promoted.
04:20And I want to thank you very much.
04:21You know, for your growing confidence, you know, in my delivery.
04:26I want to thank you very much.
04:27As I always say, it's important.
04:28You know, at this time, you're the closest person to me.
04:31And to get those, you know, positive vibes, you know, is very inspiring.
04:34Especially at the beginning of a show as well.
04:36I don't know whether you deliberately do it to ensure that I engage.
04:39The national community.
04:40Yes.
04:41In any way that I should.
04:41But I'm very thankful.
04:43I'm humbled by it.
04:44And I want to reciprocate to you.
04:46You know, what a host.
04:49You know, very dynamic.
04:50You know, very flexible.
04:51Very impactful.
04:53I know that you move a lot to our citizenry as well.
04:55And, you know, a resilient woman.
04:58You know, having traveled to Tobago, if I may disclose that.
05:01Yes, yes.
05:02Well, they saw me.
05:03They saw me.
05:03I can't hide that anymore.
05:04You know, it's public knowledge.
05:06But, yeah, you know, I want to reciprocate to you as well.
05:09You know, brilliant in your ways in terms of carrying this program for a while now.
05:15It's not easy.
05:16It's very difficult.
05:17You know, consistently.
05:18Yes.
05:18You know, that calls for a lot of commitment, dedication.
05:22It's not easy to stand here and speak to 1.3 million people, you know, on a daily basis.
05:27But, you know, thank you as well on behalf of the citizenry of Trinidad and Tobago, the police service, Ministry
05:32of Homeland, and all state and non-state actors.
05:34And, typically, another brilliant woman who is behind.
05:37The boss.
05:37The boss.
05:38Yes.
05:38You know, every time you see she's service, you know, you see the technical expertise.
05:43You know, Jackie, I want to salute you as always.
05:47Keep up the great work as well.
05:48Tremendous work on Beyond the Tape and, you know, the other program, Deep Dive.
05:51You know, thank you very much for that and your technical team.
05:54The TB6 and the executive and every employee within the TB6 domain, you know, very important responsibility where they exercise
06:01in freedom of the press to ensure that they promote a healthy democracy in Trinidad and Tobago.
06:08My law enforcement colleagues in the private sector as well, private security industry, you know, I want to wish you
06:14good afternoon, good evening, and hope all is well with you.
06:17And I ask you to continue to, you know, do your part for Trinidad and Tobago to promote safety and
06:21security in light of our challenges.
06:24And, most importantly, Whitney, if there's no citizenry, in my view, there's no country.
06:30No.
06:31And to the citizenry of Trinidad and Tobago, I know that we are observing or about to observe Diwali.
06:37Diwali coming up, yes.
06:37Which is a couple days away.
06:39And I want to wish the Hindu community, specifically, and make sense on Trinidad and Tobago, because I always say
06:44that we all enjoy every festivity or religious holiday.
06:48And we know that it is well established that, you know, we are looking at light over darkness, knowledge over
06:56ignorance, and, you know, very, very strong principles.
07:00And, you know, I want to wish the Hindu community, I make sense on Trinidad and Tobago to really, you
07:03know, hold on to the values and the teachings, you know, of Diwali in terms of how we live our
07:10life, how we conduct ourselves in Trinidad and Tobago.
07:12And for those who may be moving around, because we know that there are activities, whether it be Diwali celebrations
07:18and other celebrations, you know, be careful as you move around Trinidad and Tobago.
07:23Let us be cautious because most of those activities are within the evening into the night.
07:28So that lighting may not always be the best.
07:31And most importantly, please, with reference to the fireworks and reference to other explosives, please ensure that you are complying.
07:38That's correct.
07:39You are complying with the law and ensuring that you are putting yourself in a safe position and also not
07:45exposing yourself or others to any harm.
07:49But, you know, I ask you to enjoy it.
07:50Enjoy it peacefully.
07:51But I'm here as always with me to support, to assist in any way that I can.
07:55And thank you very much for being here.
07:58May I just say one thing, though?
07:59What's that?
08:00And if she's probably listening to me, you know, there's a seven-year-old girl who appeared on a public
08:08platform yesterday with her school, the Eldorado South Hindu School.
08:12Yes.
08:12And, you know, Whitney, I had the opportunity to visit.
08:14And it was so, you know, humbling, you know, to see a seven-year-old take the stage.
08:20And she seemed to not be bothered by the crowd.
08:23And I was wondering whether that seven-year-old...
08:25Got it from her daddy?
08:28I'm just...
08:28I'm asking that seven-year-old get it from her daddy.
08:32You know, you seem to have a lot of intelligence, Whitney.
08:35You know, you seem to always be in line.
08:37Well, perhaps...
08:38And she chooses her words wisely as well.
08:40So that means she's taught well.
08:42Well, you know, very instructive.
08:45But what I saw, Whitney, and I'm not being subjective, you know, or biased, but, I mean, you know, when
08:50I saw Samuel, you know, on the platform and the way that she conducted herself, it was inspiring for me,
08:55you know, as her father.
08:57And I need to mention that if she listened to me, you know, what should I say?
09:02You know, my beloved, my inspiration, you know, a lot of people may not know, but you drive me on
09:08a daily basis, you know,
09:10to communicate with Trinidad and Tobago.
09:12And, you know, when you're looking at making contributions to the society, Whitney, you know, this is, you know, a
09:18motivator that you're leaving something because someone has to come behind.
09:21Correct.
09:21And I want to extend this to all the children in Trinidad and Tobago as well.
09:24So I salute you.
09:25I salute the El Dorado South Hindu School.
09:26And, by extension, all the schools and all the children that took part in the event yesterday evening.
09:32I congratulate you.
09:34Let's give them a round of applause.
09:35Thank you very much, Whitney.
09:35Let's give them a round of applause.
09:36Yes.
09:36And, you know, may God continue to bless you all with great things.
09:38So thank you very much for loving me, Whitney.
09:40Of course.
09:40To share those sentiments.
09:41You're my co-host, you know.
09:42Well, I thank you very much.
09:43So we work together.
09:44Of course.
09:44It's a team.
09:44Of course.
09:45But you have a lot of intelligence.
09:46Yeah.
09:46Well, I'll lean in from you.
09:47I hope the other half don't hear what you're saying coming from me.
09:50Coming from you.
09:50Yeah.
09:51Now, listen, we have a lot to dive into.
09:53And I know we're stressing on diving in.
09:57Because you're here.
09:57I have to do it.
09:58I'm just saying.
09:59And it has become a part of you.
10:01A part of you, yes.
10:01And it's a part of you.
10:02And I think it's just inevitable before you appear in that show.
10:06Eventually.
10:07We look forward to that.
10:08Now, I don't know if you saw or heard of the freak accident that took place in Cookridge.
10:12And persons were wondering what really transpired.
10:15Now, according to the Express, we got an update.
10:17The driver killed a truck ram stole truck.
10:20Now, a 66-year-old man was killed yesterday when a garbage truck struck him while he was attempting to
10:28restart his truck along the Audrey Jeffers Highway in Cookridge.
10:32Now, Lennox Sylvain of Unity Road off Rich Plain Road, Digo Martin, was attending to his truck near the Cookridge
10:41fishing facility when the incident occurred around 1.47 p.m. during heavy rainfall.
10:47Police said Sylvain was driving west along the highway when his truck developed mechanical problems near the entrance to the
10:55fishing facility.
10:56He exited the vehicle, pulled down the cabin, climbed on top of the engine, and was attempting to get his
11:03vehicle started when a garbage truck, also traveling west, slammed into the back of his truck.
11:10The impact pinned him beneath the cabin, which then collapsed on him.
11:16The impact was severe that Sylvain's truck was propelled across the lane or the lanes of the highway over the
11:24median and into the eastbound lane.
11:27It came to a stop after crashing into a parked jeep.
11:31No other vehicles were involved in the collision.
11:35Police said the driver of the garbage truck, whose identity was not disclosed, also sustained serious injuries.
11:43He was taken to the nearby St. James Medical Complex, where he remained in stable but critical condition up to
11:50last night.
11:50Once again, condolences going out to the family.
11:54Such a freak accident.
11:55No one will be thinking something like this will happen to them.
11:58Well, Whitney, again, very unfortunate, and let me join with you to extend condolences.
12:04I know you've done it already, but very unfortunate situation.
12:07Now, I do not know the true facts.
12:10I mean, I'm going to rely on the report, but looking at all parties,
12:16it seems to suggest that the importance of driving with due care and attention, at minimum, is important.
12:23And driving with due care and attention, it's basically, in simplicity, is observing every rule that governs you on that
12:33particular road.
12:33Whether it be speed, whether it be keeping safe distance from vehicles, and even persons who, and I'm saying all
12:40parties,
12:41even the person who may have lost his life, in terms of, when you really examine the circumstances,
12:46whether, in fact, that vehicle was parked in a safe place, whether, you know, many different things.
12:50Persons paying attention while on the road.
12:52That's correct.
12:52We need to look at it.
12:53Driving defensively, all these things.
12:54There's so many factors, right?
12:55Beautiful.
12:56You know, driving, you know, not driving in a dangerous manner.
13:00You know, your vehicle, roadworthy.
13:02You know, many different things.
13:04But that drive in with due care and attention, very significant.
13:06And hence why, in my opening, I want to urge you to see this area again.
13:10Please exercise due care and attention on the nation's roads.
13:13And Whitney, you must know when you are not managing a vehicle properly.
13:19And you must know when your vehicle is, you know, at a speed up, is over the speed limit, and
13:24you need to come down.
13:25You must know whether you, when you're looking to overtake, whether it's safe to overtake.
13:29You must know whether your vehicle, in the first instance, fit for the road.
13:32Whether your tires, your lighting, and so forth.
13:35So, my fellow citizenry of Trinidad and Tobago.
13:39Whitney and I are saying to you all this afternoon, and Jackie, and TV6, and the party service.
13:45Everybody.
13:46Everybody.
13:46Right?
13:47We want to see you tomorrow.
13:48Whitney, you want to see them tomorrow?
13:49Yes.
13:49You want them to listen to you tomorrow?
13:51And I want to hear from them tomorrow.
13:52Correct.
13:53So, please, please give us that opportunity to engage you tomorrow, to greet you tomorrow.
13:58And let us all take it upon ourselves.
14:02To police ourselves.
14:04Don't allow TTPS and the licensing division.
14:07Like a master.
14:08Yeah.
14:08That only when they are wrong, that we want to get in line.
14:11Let us police ourselves and demonstrate to them that, listen, we don't need to be policed.
14:15We'll police ourselves.
14:17And please, even persons who are passengers, Whitney, assist the driver to comply.
14:23There's a driver, you're going a little too fast.
14:24Slow down.
14:25But, Ali, some drivers put you out, eh?
14:27Well.
14:27They're pulling us.
14:28I'll get out my kind.
14:29Well, so be it.
14:30Better to put you out.
14:30Yeah, put me out because I want my life.
14:32That's correct.
14:33Advocate for your safety and security and make sense for another person.
14:36But, again, very unfortunate situation.
14:37And I hope that it is investigated properly.
14:40And, you know, we see justice being delivered one way or the other in those circumstances.
14:45And condolences, once again, to the family.
14:47Now, this next situation here that took place, Mr. Ali, it is very disturbing for me.
14:54Now, the reason being, I was not privy to seeing, because, as you mentioned, I was in Tobago.
15:01Didn't know what was really good until I came back.
15:03And saw this video literally before I came on the show.
15:06And I don't understand the reason behind it.
15:10And I really hope, after this, that they are made examples.
15:14Now, mother wants action against students.
15:16Not students, eh?
15:17Students.
15:18To utter lured from school and assaulted.
15:21The mother of a 15-year-old CEDRUS secondary student plans to press charges against a number of children
15:27who, she said, lured her child out of the school's compound and physically assaulted her.
15:33Leaving her unable to walk and move without pain.
15:37Now, point 14, mother, Raveena Sukdio, told the Express yesterday that she was left deeply disturbed
15:43by a video of the assault that was widely circulated on social media, which is a problem already.
15:49You have, Mr. Ali, you're terrorizing people, children, and you're recording it, and you're posting it out there.
15:55Because you want to embarrass them even further.
15:57And that is what is also annoying to me.
16:00The video depicts her daughter being repeatedly slapped in the face by another student before being thrown to the ground.
16:10A crowd of uniformed students gathered to witness the exchange laughing and cheering as they filmed.
16:17In the aftermath, Sukdio said her daughter has been left traumatized and physically injured.
16:24They called her and told her, let's walk out to the road to the shop.
16:28And while they were walking, she assaulted her.
16:32They pretended to be her friend.
16:34She slapped her, cuffed her, pushed her down on a lamppost.
16:39Up to now, she cannot walk properly.
16:42She has nightmares.
16:43She is not eating.
16:44She cannot sleep.
16:46She is completely traumatized since the incident.
16:49She said she has visited the police and filed a report on the incident.
16:54She has also visited the Ministry of Education, seeking redress.
16:58However, she is yet to hear back from either.
17:02Ms. Ali, children going to school to learn.
17:05Children going to school to make friends.
17:07Children going to school to socialize, understand life.
17:10Who are you on the video?
17:12We are not sure in the video, but I will give you a picture of what I saw in that
17:18video.
17:18Where the bully took off her shirt, you know.
17:22So you prepared yourself to attack a person who is weaker than you.
17:27Can't defend themselves.
17:29And the only thing this child was trying to do was protect themselves from being slapped.
17:34And the rest chain them on.
17:36Chain on this person or individual, whatever.
17:40Because I don't want to call anybody's child out of the name.
17:43Yes.
17:43Because they are still children.
17:45But what makes you feel comfortable to see somebody who is vulnerable.
17:50And maybe wanting friends.
17:52And felt comfortable to walk or go with you to the shop.
17:57When really and truly you will learn in for an attack.
18:00You weak your coward.
18:02Well, Whitney, I can see the pains in your expressions this afternoon.
18:06And rightly so.
18:08And we know that this area of, you know.
18:10I don't want to define it as school violence.
18:12But the area of violence, generally speaking.
18:15Wherever young people is concerned.
18:17I've spoken aggressively on this matter.
18:22I've actually, with the Ministry of Homeland Security and the Policy and Community Support Office.
18:25Have taken steps in an effort to be able to treat with, I should say, not treat.
18:30But to prevent these things from happening.
18:31And perhaps I'll have to revisit the Minister of Homeland, the Permanent Secretaries in the Ministry of Homeland Security and
18:37Bike Extension, the Ministry of Education.
18:38You know, to again, you know, take some further steps.
18:42But I feel the pain in your voice.
18:43And I just want to ponder on something.
18:45Just to, you know, support, you know, your passion for intervention in these areas here.
18:52Of course, we are relying on a newspaper article and a report.
18:55And I want to commend persons who took the decision not to play the video.
19:00And I commend them for not promoting that.
19:04If the intention was to get likes, I'm happy that they have done that.
19:09So that's a good start.
19:11And I think that should continue.
19:12As a matter of fact, I'll go as far as to say that perhaps the time has come.
19:16And again, those who are listening to me for my decision-making context.
19:20And I'm going on what Whitney is saying, representing the public's interest and the media.
19:24That the decision not to post it is important.
19:27But perhaps we should think about creating an offense for persons who are publishing videos that may have young people
19:35engaging in conflict.
19:36That is something that we should probably create a criminal offense for.
19:39So that we prohibit that immediately.
19:41So there's no gratification for persons who may be engaging in that.
19:44So that's the first thing I'd like to say.
19:45And hence why I'm very strong when I spoke to you about re-engaging those authorities to be able to
19:51deal with it in a way that it has to be dealt with.
19:53That word in the headline, learn, that troubles me.
19:57Yes.
19:58And why it troubles me is not a situation that is spontaneous.
20:01It is well-orchestrated.
20:04It is well-planned.
20:05And when you're talking about I see law resembling things like coercion and deception and fraud and that kind of
20:11thing.
20:11So very powerful word used in the headline.
20:14And if that is what is in the evidence when the facts of the particular matter and with a group
20:18of children behaving the way that they behave,
20:20that is very concerning for me.
20:23I have no, I'm not in possession of the medical certificate.
20:26But the fact that a child cannot walk after the incident, it shows a degree of the violence that was
20:32inflicted upon that particular child.
20:34And we don't know whether that child may be able to recover.
20:38And we can easily say that there are other rights that may have been impacted.
20:42Of course, the right to education.
20:44But very significant matter.
20:45And it's very unfortunate, Whitney, that that has to make a headline.
20:49You know, when we're talking about our nation's children, you know, engaging in that sort of activities, you know, has
20:54to make a headline.
20:54What are you getting from that?
20:55What satisfaction are you getting?
20:57And nobody said anything?
20:58It's very sad.
20:59To stop?
20:59It's very, very sad.
21:00That's advantageous?
21:01Nothing?
21:02Correct.
21:02And then the final thing I like to say in relation to that, Whitney, and as I said before, I
21:06don't know the facts,
21:07but these are things that I like to place in the domain.
21:10Learn out of the school.
21:12Is it that that school is protected?
21:14Is it that for accountability that we should know where the children are going, who is going where,
21:20especially if it may have occurred during what is considered school time?
21:24Yeah.
21:24Outside of school time, school is over.
21:26We don't know.
21:27Well, exactly.
21:28If school comes to an end, well, of course, children may be on their way home.
21:32But I'm just saying if it's during school time, the protocol and policy, and I know that the Honorable Minister
21:37of Education,
21:38and by extension, the Ministry of Education, laid down a national school code of conduct 2026,
21:44which talks about a policy in terms of how children should be governed.
21:48And if children are in school at a particular time, if they have to leave their school,
21:51you should be considering whether the parents is aware, whether the parents authorize it,
21:57whether a group of children is leaving a school during school time,
22:00whether that school has MTS or other means of security to really manage these children properly.
22:06Because just to hear that a group of children lure another child out,
22:10and it resulted in the violence that we have seen, that is concerning for me.
22:13And I'm very happy to hear that the police is involved,
22:16and I will call on the police to do diligent investigations with reference to these matters.
22:20But again, very unfortunate situation, and I want to give the undertaking
22:23that we will be looking at these circumstances again to see how best we can make deeper intervention
22:28in relation to these matters.
22:29All right.
22:30Right now it's time for us to take a look at what's making today's headlines.
22:59Let's take a look at what's making today's headlines.
23:04And those are your stories making today's headlines.
23:06Just a quick reminder for those of you with the town meeting that's happening
23:10at the Northern North Division in the Maloney Police Station District.
23:14It's on today at building number 18 and 19 car park, Maloney Gardens.
23:21Maloney, it is on and it started already.
23:23So remember, you have the opportunity to be present.
23:25Please be there to the young adults that are in those communities.
23:29We ask you, please show up.
23:31It's also important, not just the mature persons being there,
23:34but to know the officers that are there with you as well.
23:37And also another reminder, please note that the public satisfaction survey period
23:41is extended to November 9th.
23:44All right.
23:45So if you have not participated yet, please do so now.
23:47It takes only five minutes or less than five minutes.
23:50So please, as we have to say now, acting superintendent said,
23:56listen, you're looking for $10,000.
23:57Let's see if we can get the $10,000 by the 9th of November.
24:00We'll take that break.
24:00We'll be back with more.
24:02Four important numbers and facts you should know about the TTPS's public satisfaction survey.
24:10100.
24:11Because the survey is 100% anonymous.
24:14No, we are not coming after you.
24:1816.
24:19Because you must be 16 years and over to participate in the survey.
24:26Five.
24:27Because the survey can be completed in just five short minutes.
24:33Two.
24:34Because the survey closes November 2nd.
24:38You can't improve what you don't measure.
24:41Five minutes of your time helps build the police service you want to see.
24:46Take the survey, share your perspective, and help us improve our service.

27:38It's Legally Speaking Wednesdays.
27:39Of course, we have our attorney at law and director here, Mr. Ali.
27:42Now, something I learned today, literally, I'm not going to lie to you,
27:46that this was the very first time that the TTPS will be celebrating Diwali.
27:52First time?
27:53First time.
27:54I didn't know that.
27:55Like a proper celebration.
27:57You knew that?
27:58I don't want to comment because I think I'll be misrepresented in my position.
28:02The lawyer.
28:02The lawyer.
28:03Yeah.
28:03So I want to be careful with that.
28:04But if, in fact, you learned that it's the first time, you're going to check it.
28:07Yeah, I learned today too.
28:07Yeah.
28:08And they had some highlights.
28:09So it's the same way you're learning.
28:10Today, I'm learning as well.
28:11Yes.
28:12And the rest of the persons who are watching, they are learning as well.
28:15So let's take a look.
28:37Let me welcome all of you, ladies and gentlemen.
28:40And this Diwali celebration, this mega event that has been organized, is being held under
28:48the patronage of our commission of police.
28:55Today, as we celebrate this historic first TTPS Diwali, let us commit ourselves to being
29:03the light that our communities need.
29:06Let us celebrate diversity.
29:09Let us respect each other's differences.
29:17And if you allow me to quote for your line from the Ramayana, and I quote from Lord Rama
29:23when he pledges, whoever seeks my refuge, saying I am yours, I grant safety from all beings.
29:31This is my vow.
29:32That pledge speaks to your solemn duty, members of the TTPS.
29:38Across Trinidad and Tobago, Diwali brings, as the commissioner told us, people of every
29:44faith together.
29:45This gathering reflects our national strength and allows colleagues to share in one another's
29:51traditions beyond the pressures of beauty.
29:57Just want to say thanks to the commissioner as we champion his events.
30:03And in the spirit of our overall inclusiveness, our overall energy and crime fighting, we just
30:12want to say thanks so much.
30:18May the light continue to triumph over darkness.
30:23May justice continue to triumph over wrongdoing.
30:26And may Almighty God, by whatever name we know him and worship him as, continue to bless Trinidad
30:34and Tobago and the Trinidad and Tobago police service.
30:38Shubh Diwali, Namaste.
30:39Thank you, ladies and gentlemen.
31:10Mr. Alistair Guevara.
31:12And we saw the assistant commissioner as well.
31:14And it was pleasing.
31:15It just shows how beautiful our country is.
31:17Well, again, Whitney, I want to also join hands with you.
31:20And let me salute the TTPS, you know, for a very powerful celebration.
31:24And, you know, listening to the commissioner of police words, very strong words of advice
31:29and direction for Trinidad and Tobago.
31:31And it's very clear that he embraced Trinidad and Tobago, all cultures, all religion.
31:36And, you know, I want to salute him for that, you know, as a leader.
31:39And also, you know, having the Honorable Prime Minister attend that function.
31:44I think that in itself is an inspiration, I'm sure, for him and for the Triaction and Tobago police service
31:48and her reading from the Ramine, you know, taking an excerpt from the Ramine in terms of where do you
31:54seek refuge?
31:55And, you know, basically, you know, what I understood from it is basically placing your trust in the Supreme being
32:00and also, you know, sending that message now to the police service to ensure that they appreciate their role and
32:05function.
32:05But, Commissioner, thank you very much for recognizing, you know, the festivity of light over darkness.
32:11I think it's important.
32:12And I'm happy to see that the TTPS would have responded, you know,
32:16and hope that it continues to manifest itself to every other religion or observation.
32:23And I'm sure that he'll be going in that direction.
32:24So, you know, let us all raise our hands and congratulate him for recognizing what I consider the softer
32:31but very important response and statement that he's making.
32:34Yeah, I do apologize as well.
32:35I had to acknowledge the Minister of Homeland Security as well, the Honorable Roger Alexander, who was also present there.
32:42All right, we need to take that break.
32:43And remember, you can give us a call at 623-1711, extension 1996 or 1997.
32:48We'll be back.

36:19Remember, you can give us a call at 623-1711 extension 1996 or 1997.
36:24We have a caller.
36:26Caller, good evening.
36:29Hello.
36:30Hello, good evening.
36:31Hi.
36:32Mr. Whitney, and a very good evening to the director.
36:37Good evening to you, sir.
36:38Mr. Ali.
36:39Right.
36:40I'm playing a fight match with Wimbledon and I'm coming out.
36:47In, I believe, 2010-2015, a study was done and commissioned and done by Professor Aguil and Professor Selwyn Ryan.
37:02And it has to do with the practices and employment practices in the DTTPS.
37:11And what they found, and you all know, they found that it's proportionate with respect to the selection of persons
37:21in the DTTPS.
37:22I want to now congratulate the current commissioner of police for having that Diwani salvation.
37:32And by extension, he says, he will also have a Muslim salvation.
37:36He says, that tells me, after 10-15 years after study was done, someone has taken the initiative to start
37:46to fix human resource in the police service.
37:51And I like where we're going.
37:53The other thing is, there was a judgment today with the merit list.
37:57And in that judgment, what I'm reading in the newspaper, my she serves in the public office.
38:06That is basically for the, I think the commission of the police, the police service commission, ladies.
38:14That to me is a final judgment on the behavior of that service.
38:18And I'm hoping that the police service, police, the DTTPS, launch a investigation.
38:25Yes, they have done it.
38:26Yes, I believe former police commissioner has done a whole dossier and passed it on the commission of policing.
38:32Well, let's not wait for your company.
38:35Bye and have a nice show to you and tell all your listeners on everybody in the program.
38:40Thank you, sir.
38:42Thank you very much, Carla.
38:43I think that you have spoken, you know, clearly.
38:45And there's no need for me to add anything further.
38:48Whitney, let me just go back to the fact that he has referred to the Diwali celebration, you know, led
38:51by the commissioner of police.
38:53Let me also recognize the Honorable Minister of Homeland Security, not only at the TTPS and him being a former
38:58senior superintendent and attending and being the leader of the Ministry of Homeland Security and lending that support as well.
39:04Very important that you do not have the commissioner or the head of the National Security Council, prime minister, but
39:09you also have the line minister also lending that tremendous support, him being a former police officer as well.
39:15But also, in his constituency, he also took the opportunity to recognize the celebration as well.
39:21And I think that that further manifests itself that, you know, we are embracing Trinidad and Tobago and not a
39:26portion of Trinidad and Tobago.
39:28And I hope that that continues across Trinidad and Tobago for every single religion or every single observance.
39:35That's the sort of respect when we truly call ourselves a democracy where they say what?
39:41Every creed and race finds an equal place.
39:43So, I think you're not only singing it, but you are representing it through these initiatives.
39:49So, thank you very much, Kola.
39:50And I just had to, you know, salute the Ministry of Homeland Security as well.
39:53Hopefully, I'll see you tomorrow.
39:54All right.
39:54We have another Kola.
39:55Kola, good evening.
39:57Hey, Mr. Whitney.
39:58Good evening.
40:00And Dr. Ali.
40:01Good evening to you, sir.
40:02Dr. Ryan, Dr. Ali.
40:04We are so very creative with the youth.
40:07We love to see the idea, the concept of our youth in this country.
40:11I know you're going to the next level, and I'll learn for the youth.
40:16Dr. Ali.
40:17Now, I know this is a threat to a garbage truck driver.
40:22The second garbage driver kills someone.
40:27And another delivery box at all.
40:30What is going on here?
40:31Maybe if the older and these short-meter active drivers, they are sleeping.
40:35Because at night home, I know this is a night home.
40:38Caps collection is a nice business.
40:41And if you're feeling sleepy, you should not be able to drive.
40:44Drink, drinking, and driving is a no-no.
40:47And sleepiness is a very safe thing.
40:50It's not like when you drink, and also when you have sleep, you do.
40:56So, look into this.
40:57That's all.
40:58All right.
40:59Thank you, Mr. Ali.
41:00Thank you very much, Kola, for your kind comments, as always.
41:03I see you, like Whitney, you are continuing to elevate me.
41:06You are continuing to promote me.
41:08And you are continuing to put a lot of accolades on my shoulders.
41:10But thank you very much for that.
41:11Maybe you all have, maybe you all see things in the future.
41:14So, perhaps, you know, I have to follow through.
41:16You did an excellent job.
41:17Well, thank you very much for that.
41:18But I think Whitney, this caller, always places me in a position to think.
41:23And I'll tell you why.
41:25You know, he spoke about the duty upon employers.
41:28Yes.
41:29And let's look at it critically here, in terms of the garbage collectors.
41:32Most of the times, for my information, they'll be traversing in the wee hours of the morning, you know.
41:39And that sort of thing.
41:40And it means, therefore, that you are now troubling the human being's mind.
41:43Yes.
41:44To be focused at that period of time.
41:46So, those employers who are responsible for those agencies, it is important for you to invest.
41:51And when I use the word invest, invest properly in the persons who you are entrusted.
41:55Health and safety.
41:56That's correct.
41:56That's very significant.
41:57So, Kola, you always trouble me, but very significant matter.
42:00And I hope that it is falling on fertile ground so that persons now will, you know, let us raise
42:05our level of conduct, behavior, and response in every single aspect.
42:10And, you know, you know how, Whitney, when you talk about persons who are advocating or forming NGOs to advocate
42:17for a particular cause, you know how those things normally come about?
42:20When something happens.
42:21Something may have happened.
42:22And in order to not allow that life to go in vain or, you know, to use that as an
42:28educational engagement.
42:29That's correct.
42:30And this is something that we need to continue to do.
42:32And I'm not saying to wait for someone to be injured or possibly to do these things.
42:36But I'm happy that you take me in that direction because an area, it's easy for us to overlook it
42:41because what?
42:42The nature of the service, garbage collectors, you don't see the importance of them.
42:46Even the persons who may be picking up the garbage.
42:48They are very important.
42:49They're very important.
42:50And we also need to invest not only for my infrastructure context or vehicular context, but also in the human
42:55being.
42:55I have learned that in some parts of the world, Whitney, I cannot pinpoint a particular jurisdiction now.
43:01But garbage collectors, those who are in that industry, are defined as some of the highly paid individuals.
43:07Of course, their health alone.
43:08Yes.
43:09It is at such high risk.
43:12That's correct.
43:13Mr. Ali.
43:13And, you know, in certain parts of the world, they call them sanitary engineers.
43:17That's correct.
43:17Because they're making sure that the environment is clean.
43:20They are touching things and exposing themselves to things that we honestly can't expose ourselves to.
43:28And if they leave the garbage there and the waste there, you can imagine what's going to happen.
43:31Critical, critical, critical issue.
43:33It's going to affect all of us.
43:33And health-wise, it's going to affect every one of us.
43:36Critical issue.
43:36And that's why I'm very happy that the caller has caused me to think and has placed something for public
43:43consumption in terms of that particular area.
43:45So, state and non-state actors, pay attention.
43:47All right.
43:48We need to take that break quickly.
43:49When we come back, we'll continue with more.
43:54Over 40 years in the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service has taught me one important lesson.
44:04Evidence matters.
44:06In policing, we rely on evidence to establish the facts and make informed decisions.
44:14Therefore, improving policing should be no different.
44:19That's why your participation in the TTPS Public Satisfaction Survey is so important.
44:26Your honest feedback provides the evidence needed to understand what's working, what isn't, and where improvements are necessary.
44:37Don't leave it to someone else to tell your story.
44:41Your experience is evidence.
44:44Your perspective matters.
44:46Take this away today.
44:49Take this away today.
44:55Take this away today.
44:56For 50 years we've had a front row seat to the life you've built.
45:01We've seen a house become your home.

45:13We've seen your milestones become moments to protect what's yours.

47:48Caller, good evening.
47:50Good evening.
47:52Good evening.
47:55My favorite Wednesday because it's all about policy.
47:59Good evening to you, sir.
48:00Yes.
48:01I was going to say the Chief Justice has just had a point.
48:06I think it's five more appeal court judges, I think, yes, which is good, but I don't think
48:14it's sufficient to be able to back up.
48:16But I want Mr. James that if you look at a speech by a lot, see, that is his only
48:22way, right?
48:24We're going to bring some kind of what I can call court protection to prevent this, therefore
48:28it will be made, Mr. Harris, because it's going to protect constitutional rights of individuals,
48:35it's going to minimize this person's harm.
48:37It will be so evidently fresh, it impacts on the legal system.
48:45It will reduce general plumbing, it will reduce coax clean, right?
48:51And more than that, it will reduce system, right, the semi-delay, which is a daily protective
48:59layer.
49:00So this is only the, what you know, it will arise to a speech by a lack of framework, right?
49:09It is a stride of the future of the family, right?
49:12And I would say, upon the justice, court assist, but it will be treated with layers, right?
49:24And this is what I think, on your mind, the purpose, and the principle of in-general case,
49:34to gifting and stabbing, you are involved in policy and politics is very special.
49:40So I want you to become an activist, an activist, an advocate for a free trial act, and it's
49:47not yet.
49:47That's what it is to do is that.
49:49Thank you, Kola.
49:50Asali?
49:50Thank you very much, Kola, for your kind words when you say that Wednesday is your favorite.
49:54Yes, policy.
49:55Yeah, you have humbled me and I'm sure you're humbled Whitney because I cannot do it alone.
49:59I have to do it with Whitney, but this caller as well, Whitney, always, you know, troubles
50:03my mind.
50:04And perhaps he has empowered me this afternoon to not only look at policy from a Ministry of
50:09Homeland Security and, you know, related ministries.
50:11He is actually taking me into the judiciary now.
50:15That's your playground.
50:16Well, it's another playground in another place.
50:18But again, I welcome that and, you know, persons are thinking, you know, I know that the Honorable
50:23Chief Justice, you know, is really making some big steps, you know, in terms of the staffing
50:28and in terms of him also giving instruction that he wants matters to be completed.
50:32At a reasonable time.
50:34Yeah.
50:34And, you know, actually given some times, you know, so I'm seeing a very strong move by
50:38him, you know, to get those matters going.
50:40And I'm happy to see that.
50:41But it's important for all the parties in the system, meaning like, for example, in the
50:45criminal justice system, the prosecution, defense, and other parties, you know, the prosecutorial
50:50authorities and so forth to ensure that they play their role as well in relation to ensuring
50:54that there is swift justice.
50:56And, you know, the Trinidad and Tobago really benefits, all parties benefit some very swift
51:00criminal justice system and even from a civil context as well.
51:03But, Kola, thank you very much.
51:04Definitely, I will throw some, you know, some of my lens in relation to that area as well
51:09because all coincide, as you rightly said, as part of the criminal justice system.
51:13Thank you very much.
51:13We have another call.
51:14Kola, good evening.
51:17All right.
51:18I'm not sure if you have a caller there, but you could give us a call.
51:21Now, before we head back to the phone lines, the importance of what is happening, as you
51:27mentioned, what the caller said with the judiciary and it linking in a way that it's smooth sailing
51:33because it seems many of us, including myself, it seems very disconnected.
51:38What could citizens do to assist with this?
51:42If anything at all, I don't know.
51:44Well, I mean, when you look at the citizenry, let's say you, you know, like, for example,
51:50the scholar.
51:50The scholar saw something that needs correcting.
51:53And the mere fact that you have spoken out about it, you have brought a solution.
51:57You have brought a suggestion.
51:58I've always told persons, you might get tired of me saying it by going to say it.
52:01These three pillars, right?
52:02Well, you have given it very formal structures.
52:04When you say three pillars, I've just said three things.
52:06But you have the three pillars.
52:09You could, if you have the opportunity to fix it with your hand.
52:12Yes.
52:12Fix it.
52:13Now, we are not the Chief Justice.
52:15No, we are not.
52:15We are not the Attorney General.
52:17No.
52:18So we, of course, may be difficult, right?
52:20Mm-hmm.
52:21But if we cannot fix it with our hands, we can speak up on it.
52:25And this is what the scholar did.
52:26So that perhaps, you know, you can ventilate it.
52:28That's right.
52:29Let's look at this area.
52:30And as a citizen who is interested in justice and promoting justice, you have spoken about it.
52:36Mm-hmm.
52:36And if you cannot speak up on it, then you should hate.
52:39Well, this is not one to hate, but you shouldn't be part of wrongdoing in a situation where there's wrongdoing.
52:44In other words, case in point, do not be looking to talk about organized crime.
52:49But you yourself is buying received stolen items.
52:52Yes.
52:53Because you are part of it.
52:54So if you want to leave it organized crime, do not be a part of it.
52:57So there's no market for it.
52:58And I want to link that directly with where the Honorable Minister spoke about this bank robberies that ongoing.
53:03Oh, yes, he did.
53:04He spoke about that and he was mentioning the importance of the financial institutions.
53:09That's correct.
53:09To find means of protecting their customers.
53:13And even the home invasion with the jewelry and other chattel, it's important.
53:17Where is that going?
53:18Is that going to somebody?
53:19And somebody is going to benefit from that?
53:21So citizenry.
53:22If you cannot fix it with your hand, because you're not the police, if you cannot speak
53:26up on it because probably, who knows, maybe you are scared, then do not engage in transaction
53:31with stolen items.
53:33Very simple.
53:34Understood.
53:34And of course, when you say it's too good to be true and they just come with it in their
53:38hand.
53:39That's correct.
53:39I mean, your eyebrows are supposed to be touching your hairline.
53:42Well, of course.
53:43You know, so don't be ignorant to the facts.
53:46Yeah?
53:46And this is what knowledge over what?
53:48This period we had knowledge over?
53:49Ignorance?
53:50Ignorance.
53:50And we need to make sure that we have that because that is not going to save you anymore.
53:54That's correct.
53:55This and so many things that move so quickly, you have the access to.
54:10That's correct.
54:10May God bless you.
54:12Enjoy all the delicacies.
54:14If you are lucky to be invited.
54:16How's your cheeks going to get full?
54:17Well, I hope not.
54:18I hope not.
54:19And, you know, to my baby girl, you really impressed me last night.
54:23If you're listening to me, you see Whitney giving you a clap again.
54:26I love you.
54:27And keep doing well.
54:28Well Sally, thank you so much for being here with us, of course.
54:31Yes.
54:31We hope that you learned a lot today as usual.
54:33As we move forward, we get ready for news up next at seven.
54:36Continue being hard targets out there.
54:38Be safe.
54:39God bless.
54:40We're out.
