00:00Are we safe from cyberattacks?
00:02Imagine walking into your neighbourhood supermarket
00:04only to find its freezers have stopped working.
00:07It sounds bizarre, right?
00:09But suspected cyberattacks have disrupted supermarket refrigeration systems
00:14across Europe with hackers allegedly manipulating temperature controls
00:19and causing freezers to heat up beyond 50 degrees Celsius.
00:23Not only that, a cooling system of France's blood bank has also been hit.
00:28So could Malaysia face similar threats?
00:31Well, Malaysia has already tasted such vulnerabilities.
00:35In Kluang, LED screens of the Municipal Council were recently hacked to display obscene content.
00:42This has raised concerns about the security of the country's digital infrastructure.
00:47Amid these concerns, Prime Minister Datuk Sri Anwar Ibrahim has asked Malaysians
00:51to stay alert but not panic, assuring that government agencies are working together
00:56to ensure sufficient supplies of food, medicine and other essentials.
01:00He noted that people in some countries, including those in ASEAN,
01:04had become anxious and started stockpiling food.
01:07Meanwhile, cyber security experts warn that Malaysia's growing digital economy,
01:12including online banking, e-wallets and cloud services,
01:15has increased its exposure to cyber threats.
01:18They also cautioned that attacks on critical infrastructure such as electricity,
01:24transport, banking and healthcare could trigger wider disruptions
01:29because these sectors are interconnected.
01:31Even hospitals, hotels and logistic companies are increasingly attractive targets,
01:37with some attacks now using artificial intelligence.
01:41Experts say businesses must conduct regular security assessments,
01:44update their systems, maintain offline backups and prepare emergency response plans.
01:50The message is clear.
01:53Cyber security is no longer just about protecting passwords and bank accounts.
01:58It's about protecting the systems that keep the country running.
02:02Because even a supermarket freezer could become a target.
