00:10friends Robin Roberts and George Stepanopoulos to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Now I want to start
00:21before I bring them up talking a little bit about each of them and I want to start my friend
00:27and
00:27obviously my colleague George Stepanopoulos who he is yes you can clap anytime you want while I'm
00:34talking and he's looking down because he's such he's such a class guy he's remarkable remarkable
00:42man has had a remarkable career in television but before becoming a TV journalist and all this
00:49other stuff you know George whether he was working in the White House as President Bill Clinton's
00:56communications director and nearly for nearly three decades he's brought that same intelligence
01:01his curiosity his dedication to the world of journalism he's interviewed six US presidents
01:09yeah including Barack Obama Joe Biden and Donald Trump along with world leaders like Vladimir Putin
01:17and his conversations go well beyond politics George can sit down with anybody they've had
01:23the opportunity to sit down with icons Meryl Streep and also Bruce Springsteen amongst others
01:28he's also a multiple Emmy award winner a best-selling author and the founder of George Stepanopoulos
01:36Productions continuing to bring the important stories to life
01:42plenty more about you George just relax
01:48but what's even more impressive is that with everything that George has accomplished every day
01:55every single day he shows up with the same level of preparation and passion every time he sits in a
02:02seat
02:02at that desk and I've had a front row seat to this for double-digit years now we all started
02:08when we were kids
02:10and it's truly something I admire about you
02:15and you're someone you take your work seriously but more or more importantly
02:20you care you dearly you care deeply and dearly about people
02:26and that shows in the work you do that shows in the way you handle yourself when you come into
02:30the studio
02:31every single day George and you know I've had the opportunity to work with you for years now and I
02:36value that
02:37your professionalism and and the way in which you carry yourself when you treat people
02:44you spent your whole career George telling people other stories about other people's lives
02:49and today I'm happy because you're going to be uncomfortable
02:55because we get to celebrate yours
03:02and maybe you'll dance for me just one time George
03:08but I just want to say with that being said George you're an amazing man
03:12no one deserves this more than you today
03:15and it is my honor because this couldn't be more well-deserved
03:23let's talk about the one and only Robin Roberts
03:32like if I'm doing this Robin because they literally have you behind the light pole
03:41but for more than three decades Robin's been a trailblazer in broadcasting
03:46from her early days at ESPN to becoming one of the most beloved and respected journalists in television
03:52Robin has built a career that's defined by authenticity, courage, and heart
03:59yes
04:03she's interviewed everyone from Ukrainian President Zelensky to music legends like Elton John and Lionel Richie
04:10she's reported from the front lines of some of the most devastating events in our country's history
04:14including Hurricane Katrina and the California wildfires
04:18but always leading with compassion
04:20she's also an award-winning producer through Rockin' Robin Productions
04:25a Peabody Award recipient
04:29and was honored with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award
04:36but as important as Robin's career has been
04:39what makes her so special to me
04:41I gotta say it goes far beyond everything that we see
04:44and that she's accomplished on television
04:46when I first made my transition from sports into broadcasting
04:51I remember feeling like the new guy right in Hollywood trying to figure it out
04:55on the red carpet at the Oscars
04:58I see this tall stunning woman across the red carpet
05:04she saunders over to me
05:06and she says
05:08are you nervous?
05:12and I said
05:14yes I am
05:15and she said three words to me
05:17Michael
05:18you
05:18belong
05:20yeah
05:21and
05:22it seems like such a simple thing to say
05:26but it meant everything to me
05:28because it reminded me that nobody
05:30starts out knowing everything
05:32and that it's okay
05:33to learn on the way
05:36that's who Robin is
05:37she has this incredible ability
05:39to make everybody around her
05:40feel comfortable
05:41feel seen
05:43and feel like they belong
05:45and I've been lucky enough
05:47to experience that first hand
05:48and I experience that every single day
05:51and Robin you're not just an incredible broadcaster
05:54you're an incredible friend
05:55and I'm so grateful that I get to share the desk with you
05:59every day

07:38and he really is a better golfer than me

07:47I honestly can't believe that we share a desk together

07:51I can't imagine that I sit at a desk
07:53with a women's basketball hall of fame member
07:56an NFL hall of famer
08:00and they tolerate a very high challenge teammate
08:06this is one of those never could have imagined moments
08:10but really being at Good Morning America
08:12I feel like that just about every day
08:15I never could have imagined
08:16that I would interview Kermit the Frog
08:20I never could have imagined
08:22that I would agree to dress up on Halloween
08:24as Lady Gaga
08:27I never could have imagined
08:29that I would race an Olympic gold medalist
08:32to the top of the Empire State Building
08:36and did pretty well actually
08:39not bad
08:39but even more than that
08:41the chance to cover the biggest
08:43most consequential stories of our time
08:46to interview the most interesting
08:49and inspiring people of our time
08:51to be able to say good morning
08:53to the entire country every morning
08:55not knowing what they're going through
08:57but trying to help guide them
08:59through with the information
09:01the advice that they need
09:03to get their day started
09:04and maybe put a smile
09:05on their face as well
09:09that is a great gift
09:10but really the gift I'm most grateful for
09:13is the family
