00:00As we look towards the northeast, blue skies and leaves have been blowing in the wind today in Phillipsburg, Pennsylvania.
00:06After rain overnight, for some of us, we finally broke our dry streak, but we missed the actual rain.
00:12Yeah, it has been, again, we've got decent rain in most areas, at least overnight, but during the day, the
00:17daytime weather, it's been pleasant.
00:18But as you mentioned, there are some areas that kind of missed out on it.
00:22Yeah, and I mean, you can see some of the leaves falling.
00:25I know Phillipsburg, not too far from AccuWeather HQ here.
00:28I noticed many, many more leaves on the ground this morning.
00:32Oh, yeah, yeah.
00:33Were you in Phillipsburg?
00:34No, but Phillipsburg's not that far.
00:36It's not that far.
00:37Generally speaking, I feel like if the leaves fell here, the leaves may have fallen there as well.
00:41I agree.
00:42This is good.
00:43This is good content, everybody.
00:45We're glad that you're here with us for this.
00:47All right.
00:47Yeah.
00:48Our attention is really turning towards flash flooding.
00:51Now that we're done, you know, talking about where leaves may or may not have fallen with the rain.
00:57Everybody highlighted here in green, be on the lookout for flash flooding as we go through really the next 36
01:03hours, I would say.
01:05We're going through Saturday morning, and the rain doesn't just necessarily stop Saturday morning for all of you.
01:09And again, this is after a significant dry stretch.
01:11So some of you have already gotten measurable rain breaking our streak that started October 16th or really started October
01:1917th because the last day with measurable rain was the 16th.
01:22For some of you, as we go through tonight, tomorrow, that's when you break the dry streak.
01:27But I'm bringing this up because when we have our first rain after being dry for so, so long, it
01:33has an impact.
01:34The risk of a fatal crash, it rises when the rain returns by just a little bit after, you know,
01:41a couple days.
01:41But after 21 plus dry days, I mean, it skyrockets.
01:44Now, we're somewhere in the middle here.
01:45And the reason that this happens is because of what the rain kind of brings to the surface on the
01:53roads.
01:53This is something we talk about in similarly Southern California a lot because we often go, you know, a long
01:58time in between rounds of rain.
02:00But what's happening is we get oil and debris that rise to the surface with those first couple of raindrops.
02:06As we get more downpours, that's when that washes the contaminants away.
02:12But in the meantime, roads become more slick than they would be with just, you know, rain when it rained
02:17a couple days ago.
02:18Now, let's dive into the forecast.
02:20Now that you have kind of the precursor of why you should be extra careful on the roads, not just
02:24where we're talking about the flash flooding,
02:25because, of course, flooded roads are a concern.
02:27But look at where this line sets up.
02:30This is the problem here along the East Coast and why we're flagging that area for the heaviest rainfall,
02:35because it's pretty much an all-day thing.
02:37Friday morning, Friday afternoon, we get to Friday evening.
02:40It just continues to be a mess.
02:42Now, we go forward to Saturday, and it really becomes just coastal New England.
02:46That's part of the reason we've been focusing on coastal New England all along for one of the high-impact
02:50areas.
02:51But now, really, all along the East Coast is a concern.
02:53Now, for the interior northeast, you get a second round of rain as well as that area of low pressure
02:57moves across the region.
02:59Not going to completely rule out flash flooding in the interior,
03:02but the worst conditions really will be along the coast here.
03:05We're looking at some areas getting up to 2 to 4 to even 6 inches of rain.
