00:01All right, the latest news break right now coming in.
00:03The Election Commission has now given opportunity to electors left out of draft roles in seven states during the SIR
00:11exercise.
00:11Notice issued to the Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra, Haryana, Jharkhand and Nagaland.
00:20Electors who were issued enumeration forms but whose names could not be included in the draft electoral role on account
00:28of being marked as absent,
00:29shifted, dead or duplicate should be provided one more opportunity to get their names included in the final electoral role.
00:37The Election Commission has issued a statement which suggests the BLOs now shall make every effort in coordination with concerned
00:46BLAs of various political parties
00:48to establish contact with electors through house-to-house visits, inquiries from neighbours, family members, resident welfare associations.
00:56They shall also guide such electors regarding the procedure and available modes for submission of their enumeration forms.
01:06I want to connect right now to my colleague Aishwarya Paliwal who is joining us for the latest news break.
01:11Aishwarya, what more can you add because this seemingly is one more correction or administrative reversal coming in from the
01:21Election Commission.
01:26Well, you know, Priti, it seems like there is a sort of complete U-turn which is being done by
01:30the Election Commission of India and the opposition.
01:32You know, over the past many months was speaking about the fact that the SIR, yes, it is something which
01:37will clean up the electoral rolls of our country from north to south and east to west.
01:42But it seems like, you know, more people were getting deleted than the ones that were getting added.
01:47And that's the reason why we are now seeing this is an order which has come out, which means that
01:51the BLOs will have to follow this.
01:53The EROs, the AEROs, all the administrative people who in fact are involved in the SIR process,
01:59they will have to make sure that all those people who were given the enumeration forms,
02:03but because of some reason, if their names were not being added, they are giving adequate opportunities so that they
02:08can give out more documents
02:10and their names can once again be added in the SIR list.
02:14The national capital, you know, we did see how there were close to 33 lakh names that were being deleted,
02:19you know, in these four areas.
02:22And now all those people, if they were given the enumeration form, that's the little caveat here.
02:27If they were given the enumeration form and because of some reason, if they were not able to give the
02:31documents,
02:31then a new window has opened up.
02:34People can submit the documents and the BLOs this time around, because it's an official order,
02:38will make sure that they get the names added after verifications of these documents.
02:42Priti.
02:43Aishwarya, thank you there for that quick update.
02:46Interesting, because this will only add more ammunition to the politics and the political sniping in the backdrop of it
02:53between the opposition and the BJP.
02:56Okay, we're going to leave it at that.
02:58Let's quickly move on to the other news break that is coming in from the leader of opposition's residence.
03:02The latest coming in, Rahul Gandhi's meet with senior Congress leaders has ended.
03:07The meeting held on further strategy over SIR.
03:10Key Congress meet went on for about two hours.
03:13Leaders like Pawan Khera, Jairam Ramesh, Dipinder Hudda, Sachin Pailin, Bhupesh Pagela, Ashok Gelot,
03:19Drik Vijay Singh, Duttasara, Sukhdev Bhugat and attended and other leaders attended this meet.
03:26Let's listen in to all the political reactions coming in.
03:37Let's listen in to all the political parties.
03:58The Korean debate wants to listen to the Korean debate.
04:28Being a leader of the opposition, he is protecting the constitution, he is protecting the democracy, he is protecting, you
04:34see, we have a history. Congress history is country's history.
05:21The Korean debate wants to listen to the Korean debate.
05:23The Korean debate wants to listen to the Korean debate.
05:28Modi government and the ministers and leaders, you know, are taking out marches against themselves as far as that safe
05:37democracy campaign is concerned.
05:39But on a lighter note, this was actually a Diwali Milan, though in fact Rahul Gandhi did, you know, buck
05:47up all the leaders.
05:48It could be an appreciation meeting, you know, Priti, after a marathon protest that's happened in the past one month
05:57or so.
05:57And Rahul Gandhi there perhaps, you know, could be giving a trailer to what's going to follow after Diwali to
06:06the leaders.
06:07But they all left very happy that, you know, finally there was some festive season mood ushering in after the
06:16prolonged protests.
06:19All right. What's the way forward, Moshmi?
06:22Because now you have a festival coming in and then basically you deep dive into the state's elections that are
06:29coming around the corner in the next three months.
06:30How do you keep the SIR issue alive politically?
06:37Absolutely. And I think Rahul Gandhi called this meeting, Priti, more to gauge the mood.
06:43What is the tempo in the leaders? There were a lot of state leaders.
06:48You know, there is a murmur that, you know, whether this is going to be really a poll issue in
06:54poll-bound states.
06:55And so leaders from all across the country were here. Rahul Gandhi would be taking a dipstick measure over what
07:03the leaders had to say.
07:04And I can tell you one thing that post-Diwali, this carpet bombing of sorts is going to continue.
07:12Remember, four, five rallies have already been planned of the India bloc.
07:15And perhaps the debate challenge. Rahul Gandhi will take the beton yet again to challenge Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
07:25And give him that time-bound timeline. But more than that, from Delhi, these leaders will be taking that message
07:32across to the state.
07:34And that's why this bonhomie and this striking of, you know, equations with the leader was, perhaps Congress thought, was
07:43important.
07:44All right, Moshmi, thank you for joining us.
07:46I must say you look lovely today in that resplendent green saree. You have yourself a fabulous Diwali.
07:53Thank you there, my colleague Moshmi Singh joining us.
07:55Very nice, right? Very nice, though. Very pretty. Thank you.
07:59All right, so that's Moshmi, my colleague, joining us.
08:01With that, I want to now quickly move on.
08:03Staying on with political news, in Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is facing growing dissent from his own
08:09MLAs.
08:10There has been a cabinet reshuffle, and there are now clear signs of rebellion.
08:15NC Chief Farouk Abdullah held a high-stake meeting with rebel MLAs at his residence.
08:19Demands for a cabinet reshuffle, and at least 20 dissident MLAs in the picture.
08:23The question is, can the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah hold on to his party?
08:27Here's more.
08:36There's trouble in paradise.
08:39Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah faces rebellion within the national conference.
08:44With a brewing revolt threatening to snowball, NC Chief Farouk Abdullah held a crucial meeting at his residence on Friday.
08:51Omar Abdullah was present, as were the party's disgruntled MLAs, whose growing dissent has put the leadership on notice.
08:58Sources in the rebel camp have told India today that Omar Abdullah even offered to resign after Diwali,
09:04telling the MLAs not to pressurize him.
09:06But that's not what the rebel MLAs wanted.
09:09Sources say Farouk Abdullah has assured them that some demands will be met within 14 days,
09:14which could include a possible removal of the CM's advisor and a cabinet reshuffle.
09:42Sources say Farouk Abdullah, which is a part of the
09:50But the cracks probably run deeper.
09:53At least 20 dissident MLAs had held a secret huddle earlier
09:57with four meetings since October 27th cabinet reshuffle.
10:01The rebels met Farouk Abdullah and demanded removal of ministers
10:05who have completed two years.
10:09The cabinet expansion is what triggered the rift.
10:12Four new ministers were inducted, taking the council's strength to nine.
10:16But the exclusion of senior leaders, particularly six-time MLA Mubarak Gull,
10:20triggered resentment.
10:22After allegations of repeated humiliation,
10:24the dissident MLAs are now seeking removal of ministers
10:27who have completed two years.
10:44The BJP has denied any role, rejecting the Operation Lotus charge.
11:07The battle lines within the national conference are becoming harder to conceal.
11:12Can Omar Abdullah now contain the discontent
11:14before an internal revolt turns into a crisis for his government?
11:19With Meir Farid, Bureau Report, India Today.
11:29All right, we have more news break coming in.
11:31The NC dissident MLAs and Abdullah's arrive at a middle ground, it seems.
11:36The inside scoop coming in.
11:37Sources in the rebel camp confirm Farouk Abdullah assured some demands
11:41to be met in the next two weeks,
11:43which could include removal of advisor to chief minister
11:46and reshuffle in cabinet,
11:47which may see repudy CM being stripped off his portfolio.
11:52High Command assured the dissident group that their demands are genuine.
11:56Some will be met immediately, some will take time.
11:59Rebel camp will now wait for Farouk Abdullah assurance
12:02to take shape in the next 14 days.
12:05We'll chalk future strategy based on whether the Abdullahs
12:08honour what was decided in today's meeting.
12:11Sources part of the meeting claim that Omar Abdullah
12:15offered to resign after Diwali.
12:17However, dissident leaders told him that this is not what they want.
12:22I want to quickly cut across to my colleague, Mir Fareed.
12:24Mir, what really went down in that meeting?
12:26Give us the latest update.
12:29Well, Preeti, it was clear from day one that the most crucial part
12:34as far as this complete drama,
12:36this internal rebellion of the national conference is concerned.
12:39Last 10 days, we did not see any major attempt of troubleshooting from the NC.
12:45But everyone knew that once they meet Farouk Abdullah,
12:48that is going to be the decisive point.
12:49And that's exactly what has happened.
12:50They met Farouk Abdullah today.
12:52Omar was also there.
12:53And after almost two hours of meeting Farouk Abdullah,
12:57both the sides came out, briefed the press.
12:59Our sources say that as of now, Farouk Abdullah has managed to pacify these disgruntled ameliers.
13:06There are certain demands that he is assured will be met in the next two weeks.
13:11Now, that also includes, as you rightly said,
13:13they have been somewhere down the line assured
13:16that advisor to the chief minister will be removed,
13:18the deputy will be stripped of the R&B portfolio.
13:21And then also all the other demands, including dignity.
13:25Now, this is an issue where they have time.
13:27And I spoke to many people in the rebel camp.
13:29They say that they have been humiliated time and again.
13:33The ministers don't listen to them.
13:35The style of function of the chief minister, they oppose.
13:37They say that Farouk Abdullah in many ways is the binding force.
13:41And if he's removed from the equation, the N.C. will decimate.
13:45So these are the strong waves.
13:47But as of now, it seems that Farouk Abdullah's intervention has saved the day for the N.C.,
13:52though temporarily, because all is not well within the party.
13:55As of now, the firefighting has been done.
13:58But down the line, definitely, these MLAs have put the party on notice,
14:04the high command, and have been told that most of these issues will be taken care of.
14:09Some immediately and some as the time goes on.
14:13Priti?
14:14Well, thank you, Mir, for joining us for that quick update.
14:16You have yourself a good, happy Diwali.
