00:00Community Transport Services TAS, we provide community transport to people that are older
00:04or people that are younger, that have a disability or a condition that prevents them from undertaking normal daily activities.
00:11Recognising that transport is one of those key enablers to live at home, live in your community independently.
00:16That could be getting an important medical appointment, it could be pharmacy,
00:21it could be to visit a loved one or a family member or just to get out and connect with
00:25friends.
00:25I think we take it for granted. Most people have access to transport, whether that's your own vehicle,
00:30whether that's a friend or whether it's public transport.
00:32I think as you get older or if you have a condition that prevents you from being able to drive
00:37or there's no family members around, that staying inside, being isolated becomes very lonely.
00:42And in Tasmania on recent surveys is one of the more lonely states in the country.
00:48And I think as we're an older state and that's becoming a growing demand,
00:52getting out and ready people, you know, that's a real factor of quality of life,
00:56like being social and being active.
00:58I saw the signs and the cars at Mowbray while I was working at the university
01:04and delved into what they did and thought that it might be something that I would like to do.
01:10I've just come up five years. It's helped me, I think, with my confidence.
01:16Speaking with people, to have someone to chat to is, yeah, very important to them.
01:21I think for a lot of people, they don't drive in the city.
01:28So to be picked up and taken to an appointment, especially around the hospital where you can't get parking,
01:36they've got to walk a great distance.
01:39And, you know, the outskirts, like we're in Evendale at the moment, yeah, people just can't get into the city.
01:47So this is a great service for them. And it's not just for appointments.
01:51It's for anything that they want to do. They want to go grocery shopping. They can go shopping.
01:57They can go and visit a friend. Just do whatever they need to do.
02:01We are calling on Tasmanians that want to help to help people that need a hand.
02:05They'll get a lot out of it. We provide training. We provide reimbursements as well for volunteers
02:10so they're not out of pocket, so the experience can be enjoyable without costing a volunteer receipt.
02:14It really comes down to volunteers. The more people we have to help, the more people we can help.
02:19We have a wonderful crew of volunteers now. We have about 350 across the state.
02:22And we have a great crew of volunteers, but we know demand for services is going up.
02:26And we know there's lots of people in Tasmania that also want to help.
02:29And so it's trying to find those people, to connect with people that need the help.
02:31And so we can expand services to help more people.
02:34Why should they vote? Well, if they enjoy driving, I think it's a great reason to volunteer.
02:41And just to help people. And hopefully it's there when I'm needed at some stage.
