00:00You need to start using Herder right now.
00:02It's like T-Mux, but it's built for AI.
00:04I use this every single stinking day.
00:06Check this out.
00:07Now, just like T-Mux, we can launch it on one computer,
00:09launch some panes, launch some AI agents,
00:11and then get the junk out of there
00:12and access it from my Omachi laptop like I never left.
00:14It's also a mouse-first terminal,
00:16but where it gets crazy is how my AI agents use Herder.
00:19When they're done, blocked, or have a question,
00:21they let you know.
00:22Notifications, icons.
00:24This sucker is AI native.
00:25Or you can quickly filter the sessions based on their status.
00:28But this is my favorite thing right here.
00:29Your agents can drive Herder.
00:31They can control it, opening new panes and windows by themselves.
00:34And this one, they can talk to each other.
00:37My claw code just launched Codex, Gemini, and Grok,
00:40and he's talking to them and they're talking back.
00:42There is so much more can do.
00:44Get your coffee ready.
00:44This is where you're gonna be talking to your AI from now on.
00:47Let's go.
00:48Now, you will be a Herder expert by the end of this video,
00:50a full convert.
00:51But before we do that,
00:52I have an urgent message for network engineers.
00:54If you're not a network engineer, move on.
00:56You can't be here.
00:57Go.
00:58Okay, network engineers, listen up.
00:59You know how I just showed you in Herder,
01:00how an AI agent can just tap you on the shoulder and let you know something's wrong or done.
01:04That is what network engineers need right now.
01:06This video is sponsored by HPE networking.
01:09And they asked me to do a kind of a PSA for you.
01:12A word of encouragement.
01:13So buckle up.
01:14Get the coffee ready.
01:16This is the message.
01:17This is the message.
01:17Don't be afraid of AI.
01:18You don't need to be.
01:19It's not going to replace you.
01:21It's going to make you better.
01:22Answer this.
01:23How many of you right now are drowning in extra time?
01:26None of you, right?
01:27All your time right now goes to troubleshooting and putting out fires.
01:31That, that right there is where AI is going to help you.
01:33So instead of spending hours digging through logs, AI can dig through them for you and help you find the
01:38root cause of an outage like that.
01:40Couldn't snap for a second.
01:41And I know you love those 3 a.m.
01:42Troubleshooting calls, right?
01:43Everything on fire.
01:44You can't even see straight.
01:46You don't have any coffee.
01:47That's where AI really comes in handy.
01:49It'll point you in the right direction while you are still making the call or while you're making coffee either
01:54way.
01:55And it's going to help you automate that boring work too, like documentation and diagrams, things I didn't do before
02:00anyway.
02:00Now at least it's getting done.
02:02And that's what HPE networking is actually doing.
02:04They use AI to help identify issues and speed up root cause analysis and improve network performance.
02:09So you spend less time on the stuff that stresses you out and having more time to build and have
02:14fun.
02:14Getting back to the original reason you got into networking.
02:17So think about it.
02:18AI could be that networking assistant that you need right now to see how HPE networking does it.
02:22I got a link in the description below.
02:23Click on it.
02:24Learn more, show them some love for sponsoring this video and making something like this possible.
02:28Now back to Herter.
02:32Let's start with getting it installed.
02:34Good news.
02:34It works everywhere.
02:35So head on over to Herter.dev and right here, let's see the command to install for macOS and Linux.
02:40For Windows, I'm actually curious about this.
02:42You'll run, oh, this PowerShell command.
02:44I do want to try that because I'm on a Windows machine right now.
02:47That totally worked.
02:48And then I'm Mac and Linux.
02:50I'll just paste that command.
02:52And that was quick.
02:53Now, all you really have to do is just type in Herter to get started.
02:55Let's try Herter.
02:57Boom.
02:57Now, I love how simple the intro is.
02:59And again, this is a mouse first terminal.
03:01So if you're not like a keyboard centric person, it's okay.
03:04You don't have to be scared.
03:05Look, you can even click stuff here, but you should be keyboard centric.
03:07I'm gonna show you some of the fun things.
03:09Like control B will get you into prefix mode for a bunch of fun commands.
03:12So we'll hit continue with the mouse.
03:14It's so weird.
03:14And the first thing it wants you to do is install some AI integrations because it's
03:17an AI first terminal.
03:18Yeah, I found Claude and it found Hermes.
03:21Let's install those.
03:22Hit enter.
03:22Done.
03:23That was quick.
03:23Notice we can use our directional arrows to kind of jump around or use our mouse
03:26to jump around.
03:27If you want some toast, you can turn on some toast.
03:29Sound indicators, themes.
03:30Ooh, theme.
03:31Let's go groove box.
03:32Oh yeah.
03:33And now we're in, and this is the best thing ever.
03:35Like I'm not kidding.
03:36I use it every day.
03:37I already said that, but I had to say it again.
03:38Now this land, this world that we just created here, it's always running.
03:41Like watch this, do, do this with me.
03:43We're gonna, in this terminal right here, type in ping 1.1.1 or whatever.
03:47I'll let that keep going.
03:48Now we're gonna do a prefix control B and then hit Q to detach where to go.
03:52It's gone.
03:53I feel like I'm doing a bluey episode, but now if we type in herder again,
03:58Hey, it's like we never left.
03:59It's still going.
04:00Herder is actually a server running in the background and all the terminals.
04:03The windows and pains and AI agents that we start launching inside of this.
04:06I'm about to show you that they just live there. They don't die.
04:08And even if the server goes down,
04:09like if you close your laptop or your computer reboots, they resurrect.
04:12I'll show you that here in a moment, but first we gotta explore.
04:14Let's get our bearings. Now, as we explore, keep in mind,
04:16you can use your mouse for everything,
04:18but I'm showing you keyboard shortcuts because they're more fun.
04:20Now first right now where we're at,
04:21this is a window or pain where we're pinging right now. It's a pain.
04:24And actually let's stop our pain control C and let's launch Hermes because why not?
04:28Hermes boom. And something fun just happened.
04:30Do you see that an agent just popped up?
04:32We'll get to that here in a moment. Now in this pain,
04:34we can do control B our prefix and type in V to split it vertically.
04:39And suddenly we have a new pain.
04:40We can also hit control B and then the minus symbol to split horizontally.
04:44And notice it split that new pain horizontally.
04:46We can rename these pains by hitting control B shift P call this one.
04:50Bob knows how it changed the name right here.
04:53Now we can move around with our mouse. Keep in mind,
04:55mouse centric,
04:55or we can use our keyboard control B and I can use them controls like K to go up or
04:59H to
05:00go left or L to go right. We can also resize them by hitting control B are H to go
05:04left L to go right J to go down K to go up.
05:08We can also open just a ton more.
05:10And now that's way too many. It's just fun though. Try it.
05:13You can close them by hitting control B X control B X control B X.
05:18Now this was all just in one tab.
05:20A tab helps us keep our pain and stuff organized.
05:22Let's create another tab control B C we can name it. I don't know.
05:26Clot and we have a new tab. We can rename this tab control B shift T.
05:30We can get back to our previous tab by hitting control B P to go back control B N to
05:35go next or control B and hit the number of the tab one control B two control B one.
05:41Now again, I want to point out that all this is mousable. Is that a word?
05:44I don't know, which is just so sick. And while I'm jumping around,
05:47I'll launch a few more agents so you can see them pop up. See, there they go again.
05:50We'll touch on that here in a moment. Now let's go one more level up.
05:53We saw pains and we saw tabs, but now over here,
05:55we've got our workspaces which organize our tabs and our pains.
05:59And right now the name is defaulted to our home directory, the tilde home sweet home.
06:03Let's rename that control B shift W. We'll name it my space.
06:09Let's create another space control B shift N new space control B shift W to
06:14rename it.
06:15And now we have a whole new world of tabs and pains that we can just create.
06:19I'll add a few more spaces. I'm not sure why I went to social media on this.
06:22It just happened.
06:23We can quickly jump between spaces by hitting control B W notice my directional
06:28arrows. Let me jump around here.
06:29I can close an entire space by doing control B shift D sure about that. Sure.
06:34And this is by far my favorite way to navigate control B G for go to.
06:39Oh, they're all right here. Directional arrows or H J K L or just J K.
06:44And you can see what's up. And there's so much happening here.
06:47And we haven't even started talking about agents yet. Let's go.
06:53Now you may have noticed when we launched our agents and random pains,
06:55they started showing up right here in this little agents tab. Boop.
06:59Not sure why I just booped you notice. We can click around here. Boom, boom,
07:03boom and go to each agent's pain and notice they are also labeled by workspace.
07:07So right now all our agents are in my space. Let's put some in Zanga.
07:10So let's go to Zanga. I'll start Claude right here and boom. Notice there he is.
07:16Claude showed up in Zanga, but watch this. That's not even the fun part.
07:19We're going to enable notifications and this is really going to show you the power
07:23of how the agents interact with herder. And this is their house. They live here.
07:26So first let's make sure we haven't turned on control B or prefix and hit S for
07:30settings. We're going to go over to sound. Make sure we have sound on switch that on.
07:35Hit enter. Go to toast. Love toast. We'll see what our notification pop-ups happen
07:40inside of herder. Hit enter. Boom. And that's it. Hit escape to close.
07:44Now we can try some stuff right here in Zanga land. I'll tell Claude, yo, dude,
07:48tell me a scary story in two paragraphs about network Chuck. And by the way,
07:51I'm using whisper flow right now. My favorite thing. I'm going to hit enter quickly.
07:55Go away so we can get notifications and we'll wait. Ah, here it is.
08:00And I think maybe you heard it. You should have heard it. Let's go over there and check it out.
08:03Control B W go up one space. There it is. We'll try it in Hermes over here. Hey,
08:09what is the hardest math problem ever? Boom. I love how it just works. Notifications are cool,
08:14but that's not the coolest thing. Watch this. I want to set up some chats here.
08:17I want you to ask me a series of questions, math questions, prepare them right now.
08:21I'm not going to say it yet. Go over here to Claude and say, tell me a scary story,
08:25but you can only use three words, the same words consistently and make it three paragraphs.
08:30Produce an ASCII art image of, um, network Chuck and ask me a question for feedback to see if I,
08:36if I like it, I'm going to go start this one, this one, this one. Now watch this.
08:41This is going to be so cool. I'm gonna let them finish. Claude needs attention.
08:44Love that. My space finished. Hermes finished and notice how the colors are actually changing up here
08:49too. Okay. You're ready for my favorite thing. So we'll do control B our prefix and then G for go
08:54to,
08:54this is the best way to view your stuff. We're about to unlock this right here filters.
08:59I'm going to hit D for done. And you can see which agents are done.
09:04Looks like Robert and Terry are done and we can jump there real quick.
09:07Let's go check on Robert. Tell me that scary story. Three words.
09:10That's not bad. And also kind of scary. Let's hit control B again, G.
09:15Now instead of D we're going to hit B B is for blocked or any agent that's waiting on you.
09:20It has some questions for you and Zanga has some questions. Let's go check it out.
09:23That's a little cursed. Let's make it spooky. How sick is that though?
09:27Ooh, it made it spooky. Make four more versions. Now, if I hit control B G once more,
09:32and then filter off of W just hitting W I can see which agents are working.
09:37Notice the status right here and they're done. It made a possessed one. That's scary.
09:42Don't do that. Did it incorporate that story from earlier, the behind you, Claude,
09:47you're being creepy again, control B G once more, our other filters are I for idle.
09:52So agents just kind of chilling and a for all. This is by far my favorite thing.
09:57I use it all the stinking time and I know you're sold right now.
10:00Like that was enough to make me switch, but that's not even the coolest stuff.
10:03We have two amazing things coming up. The last one.
10:06I just can't even did I just say can't even well, I need some more coffee.
10:09It's a bit too early right now. You and I let's sip it right now together.
10:14Okay. Next section. Let's go.
10:19Now this is actually a fairly new feature. I just started using this and it's amazing.
10:23It's remote Herder. So right now we're on Terry. This is our current Herder session,
10:27but my main computer is actually a Mac studio and it's also running Herder.
10:32I can add this Herder on my Mac as a remote Herder session on Terry.
10:37And it's so stinking easy. Watch this first.
10:39The other machine has to already have Herder and it has to be accessible via SSH.
10:43Let's do it real quick. It's so easy. Herder machine list. I've got no machines.
10:47Now I can do Herder machine ad. I'll label it with dash dash label.
10:52Call it big Mac. And then just like SSH, my username,
10:54plus the machine's IP address and network Chuck at 10.77.14.204 and add
11:01my Herder session on that Mac just showed up right here.
11:04Notice Terry now has a local label. And then over here,
11:07we have big Mac with all his existing Herder sessions. And look at that.
11:11I'm already getting notifications from that remote Herder. Everything just works.
11:15Control B G it's all there. I can switch right to it.
11:18Are you starting to see how powerful this tool is? It's crazy. Oh, by the way,
11:23what I'm showing you, there's a lot to remember. So if you hit control B,
11:26you can hit question mark and see all the prefixes and key binds.
11:29You can press forward slash to search like close workspace tab, whatever.
11:34You can learn it all right there. Oh, also one thing I forgot to show you bonus.
11:37So of course we have the filter options, D F W whatever blocked,
11:40but you can also do forward slash and search.
11:43So I can search for baptize and I had a session where I was talking about
11:47baptism and I can jump right there.
11:49I think it searches like the session name and the contents and everything,
11:52but now for the best feature of all time,
11:54watching the agents control Herder and also talk to each other.
11:58It's so good. It doesn't make any sense.
12:03Okay. So first your agent can control Herder. What do I mean? Watch this.
12:08I'll start a new session and I'll say, Hey Morpheus, by the way, that's my AI's name.
12:12I'm showing off Herder right now on the Herder video real quick.
12:15I want you to open up five panes with Herder right now.
12:18So what's happening here is that Herder has a skill,
12:22which allows it to interact with its API. And I believe it has a CLI as well.
12:26There's all kinds of crazy stuff going on.
12:27Essentially your agents can interact and boom. I just did it like right in front of us.
12:30How sick is that? Okay. Now close them. Isn't that awesome?
12:34So that's a skill you can just give to any one of your agents.
12:37They'll know they'll know where they are, but it's not just that Herder can be used
12:40for agents to talk to each other. Watch this. I love this so much.
12:43Morpheus. I want to show off the power of Herder. So here's what I want you to do.
12:46I want you to open up four panes right where we are. One with codex, one with Grok,
12:52one with anti-gravity and one with another Claude session,
12:55make them look really nice and even. And I want to do a coding session together.
12:59What I want you to have them do is code together an ASCII art scene,
13:04each a different scene from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
13:07And I want them to play that here in the terminal.
13:10Make it a three minute job. Like they have to move quickly. Go for it.
13:13You ready for this? Go.
13:16Go. And notice a few of these have dialogues and they, he just took care of it.
13:25Morpheus is able to see their dialogue and answer it. They're all running now. Look at him go.
13:29Now what's amazing about this is that there's hooks built in. So this main
13:32Claude code session right here has hooks ready to go waiting for their answers.
13:36And as soon as any one of these suckers finishes or has a question or anything,
13:41they will talk back to him. They can talk back to each other.
13:44They're all situationally aware of what's happening. It is amazing.
13:47Now it looks like Claude codex, anti-gravity and Gemini all finished.
13:51Grok is always slow on this, not dumb, but slow while they're making that.
13:55I do want to show you a basic example of how they talk to each other.
13:58So we'll just set up a new session here. Um,
14:00I want you to set up a quick codex session to show off her, um,
14:04in a tab or not a tab, a pain right next to you. And, um,
14:07simply ask him a few questions and have them answer back to you.
14:10I want y'all to have a convo back and forth and watching them talk.
14:14Look at this codex answered, pulling it to reply from the pain now. Oh, notice.
14:18Look what he did. I didn't even tell him to do this. He renamed it.
14:22Okay. Grok is taking too long again. You gotta hurry this guy up.
14:25There they go. I love it. He did the marauders mapped on there. That's sick.
14:30Oh, that's so fun. Expecto Patronum. I'm nerding out right now. Sorry.
14:35Not sorry. Now herder can also be aware of work trees. Check this out.
14:39Back over here. I'll say, Hey, Morpheus,
14:41I want to show off herders ability to create work trees.
14:44So I want you to create just like a dumb sample coding project with Gemini
14:48Claude and codex using work trees. Uh,
14:52make that happen right now with her, please go. And there it goes.
14:55But notice right here, work trees created.
14:57And we get a nice visual for what's happening. If I hit control B and G,
15:01I can see them doing their thing down here. All three finished.
15:04He's committing the branch. And I think it was some joke thing it made.
15:07One more thing I want to show you with how herder or agents can control herder.
15:10Um, if I go back up to my local machine, so on Terry, I'll launch Hermes.
15:14I'm going to teach him the herder skill. Hey, uh,
15:16set up the herder skill for you right now.
15:18You're in a herder pain inside herder. Install the herder skill, please.
15:24Done. Now I can't believe this is possible, but watch this.
15:27I'm gonna ask Terry to do this. Hey, Terry,
15:29I want you to use herder to talk to Morpheus and inside the toilet workspace.
15:34I want you to ask him about the toilet video to get a status update.
15:37Now what this should do is Terry from his local herder situation is going to reach
15:42out to the remote herder situation over here on my Mac and talk in the toilet
15:47session to Morpheus. Ready, set, go. Ah, there it goes. He's talking to him.
15:51Let's go look in there. Oh, he's answering. Hey, Terry, whatever, whatever, blah, blah, blah.
15:54And he's waiting on his answer. Oh, Morpheus just finished.
15:57He got his answer. And that's that. So what just happened there is crazy.
16:01One herder situation talking to another one agent on one machine talking to
16:05another agent on another machine. And it was kind of seamless.
16:08And finally, one last thing I want to show you is let's get out of herder.
16:12So we'll do control B Q to quit. Oh, I'm gonna stop the server.
16:15So herder server stop and that should stop everything.
16:18And then I'll just type in herder to get back in there and watch what happens.
16:22It's resuming everything because when you're chatting with your AI agents,
16:26it's just text.
16:26So it immediately resumed every single one of my sessions. Like I never left.
16:31So laptop closes your PC reboots or whatever. You're still there.
16:35You're still talking. You're still chatting. Isn't that amazing?
16:41Okay. So herder time to land this plane. What do you think?
16:44I haven't even thought about T-mux until this video when I had to compare it.
16:48It's not even comparison, right? I have never looked back.
16:52Herder almost a T-mux. Herder is amazing. What do you think?
16:55Are you gonna try and use it? Comment below. Again, I almost went full gooey.
16:59Herder brought me back to the terminal and I'm happy.
17:02I legit have been using this every single day since I found it like three months
17:07ago. And I love, love being able to jump in
17:10and just start my AI stuff or resume it from any device I have,
17:14including I found an app that does this well on my phone.
17:17There's probably another video though. Anyways, that's all I got.
17:20I'll catch you guys next time.
17:22Hey, you made it to the end of my video. At the end of my videos,
17:25I like to pray for you, my audience. And actually, I want to address something that
17:29I saw yesterday. It was this tweet or X post about hackers being
17:37very depressed about potentially their work going away. All the skills they've built up over the years
17:44are now becoming, I'm just saying this with the thinking, are becoming useless and they're having
17:50like this crisis. I think many people in IT are collectively starting to feel this
17:57or at least have already felt that. I know I, I went through a phase where I was waking up
18:01at
18:01three in the morning, like what's going to happen to what we do. So I know that many of you
18:08are
18:08probably feeling this way. And I want to pray for you, pray for this, pray for your anxiety,
18:13all of it. Let's do it right now. God, I thank you for the person on the other side of
18:17this camera,
18:18the screen, wherever they are, who they are. If they're feeling the stress and anxiety of AI
18:25and how it's going to impact their jobs, give them a peace, God. Give them a peace.
18:33Give them optimism. I've adopted the idea, the mentality of relentless optimism. And Lord,
18:39I pray that that, that idea will fill them right now. Just fill their, their life,
18:44their bones, everything. Just let them feel relieved and excited and not stressed about AI.
18:52I pray that you would reveal to them a path forward for their family, for them,
18:58reveal to them that they're valuable and amazing and that they are so much more than what they were
19:04doing, than their skills that they had been developing. And those skills are still valuable,
19:09but they are more than that. And that what's coming with AI, I mean, no one really knows,
19:14but what's coming is going to be good. And just like everything we encounter in tech,
19:20we're going to adapt. So Father, I ask in your name that you just bless them right now.
19:25Fill them with that optimism and peace and a path forward. I ask this in your name, Jesus.
19:31And also I ask in your name that they will know you, Jesus, that you will impress upon their hearts
19:38right now, how real you are, and that you love them and you care for them, that they are wonderfully
19:44and fearfully made. And that they may have found satisfaction and have been looking for
19:56something to give them value and meaning in their work. And that may be kind of fading a bit.
20:01And I pray that they would find their meaning and their identity in you, Jesus,
20:05because only complete happiness and joy can be found in you. I ask this in your name. Amen.
20:12Hey, thank you for letting me do that. I know it's kind of weird. I know you may not agree
20:16with
20:16everything I'm saying. That's okay. We can disagree. But I want you to know that I care for you. And
20:23if
20:23you need anything, if you need to talk or anything at all, let me know. That's all I got. I'll
20:29get you
20:29guys next time.
