The 2018 Winter Olympics could well be awarded to the southern German town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Germany has a good chance of beating out fellow contenders South Korea and France. But a few landowners in Garmisch could yet put a spanner in the works. They are seeking a court injunction to prevent their land being used for the Olympics. They have the backing of the Bavarian Green party - but also some local conservatives.
