Norway has revealed one its deepest Cold War secrets.

During the chilly period, Oslo commissioned the construction of a modern coastal military defence facility to protect itself against the possibility of Soviet attack.

The base in Herdla, on Askøy Island near Bergen, is assured of a more peaceful future as it due to open to the public in the summer.
