Egypt has ordered that former presidential candidate Ahmed Shafiq face a criminal court on corruption charges if he returns to the country.
A Justice Ministry official said the case against the 70-year-old had been formally referred for trial.
Shafiq fled to the United Arab Emirates after narrowly losing the election in June to the Muslim Brotherhood's Mohamed Mursi.
