17:23 But as I said, the situation is fluid, but there are these efforts of finding a peaceful
17:32 solution for the problem.
17:34 Everybody is giving priority to these efforts.
17:42 And for an in-depth look at the further situation in Niger, we interview Kembale Musevuli, an
17:48 analyst at the Congo Kinshasa Research Center, to understand the reasons behind the coup,
17:53 which has been broadly backed by locals in the streets.
17:58 In the Sahel region, French interest in Mali, in Burkina Faso, in Niger, is mineral resources,
18:04 natural resources.
18:05 But the people of the region are saying, this is not the Berlin Conference anymore.
18:10 We are in 2023.
18:13 African people must control their land.
18:15 They must control their resources.
18:16 They must exploit those resources for the benefit of the masses.
18:21 And you can see that in the protest.
18:23 There was a coup in Niger, a military coup.
18:27 The leaders have spoken.
18:29 The people could have said, we're not in support of the coup.
18:33 But why are thousands of people in the streets?
18:36 So the people of West Africa are very clear about imperialism.
18:41 They are very clear about French imperialism.
18:44 And they're saying no to imperialism.
18:46 And they are saying yes to a multipolar world.
18:49 This is why you're seeing the Russian flag in this protest, where African people, where
18:54 Nigerian people are saying that we do not want to stay connected to the West.
19:01 We want to have partners who look at us with dignity, who treat us with respect, to build
19:07 a new world that we want to see.
19:10 And the Congo Kinshasa Research Centre analyst also stated that, as we are in a new world,
19:16 African peoples are raising their voices and will be the powerful force that will move
19:19 the African continent and humanity forward.
19:23 Militaries of the regions are taking power, but they are listening to people.
19:28 In the case of Mali, in the case of Burkina Faso, in the case of Niger, that the rhetoric
19:32 they are actually sharing connects with the aspirations of the people.
19:37 Will that continue for these leaders to be able to listen to the people?
19:43 The struggle must continue.
19:45 The history of humanity is a history of class struggle.
19:48 So the people of these countries, even though they have strong military forces taking control
19:54 of the country, they must continue to engage with these leaders so that their aspirations
