00:00 Now I will give the word to President Peru, heads of states and government, Mr. President,
00:29 colleagues.
00:37 Peru is participating in this summit through the presence of its president here in this
00:44 summit, having a strong sense of commitment and responsibility.
00:58 We are people who have always respected and protected the environment.
01:16 Never before has the Amazon been so in danger as right now.
01:26 So the solution for this problem has to be the development, economic development, through
01:36 ecological laws and ecological initiatives.
01:43 We need to see the Amazon as with a human face.
01:57 If we see the Amazon as with a human face, we will fully understand.
02:03 Maybe that way we can fully understand the rights the Amazon has.
02:13 Taking into account that the Amazon is also home for millions of people here in Peru.
02:27 We need to fulfill the needs of the citizens in this area, especially the indigenous people.
02:38 We need to eradicate poverty and inequality.
02:45 In this region, it is even stronger than the rest of the country.
02:55 It is our moral and political responsibility to solve these problems and to take action
03:04 now.
03:06 We do not have time to lose.
03:11 We need to develop public politics that take into account the needs of the citizens.
03:32 Organizations need also to be taken into account because they are the ones who are leaving
03:41 all of these problems up close.
03:48 We need to pay special attention to the communities who are suffering the most all of these damages.
03:59 We need to hear them in order to have a full understanding of the problems they are facing.
04:14 We need to cooperate, especially the Amazonian countries, in order to improve the life conditions
04:24 of the Amazonian population.
04:32 Setting a face to the Amazon also means that we need to respect the culture, language,
04:47 and traditions of the indigenous people.
04:56 Because in Peru we have over 50 peoples who live there.
05:17 Those indigenous people enrich our culture and also contribute to our economical growth.
05:35 I want to highlight the fact that here we have to set a solution to our problem by hearing
05:48 the Mother Earth and hearing the indigenous people.
06:09 We need to establish social politics as well as economic politics.
06:22 We need to take into account as well the knowledge of indigenous people, improve our technological
06:33 development.
06:43 We need to develop initiatives that provide an ecological development to our economy.
07:00 We need to preserve not only the Amazonas but also their traditions and culture.
07:10 We need to take advantage of the indigenous wisdom that always has understood the needs
07:19 of the Amazonas.
07:26 We need also to implement the participation of Amazonian citizens when taking action against
07:36 the problems that we all are facing now.
07:47 A real democracy takes into account the ones who are suffering the most.
08:01 So therefore I would like to highlight how important it is for us to defend and preserve
08:05 human rights and civil rights.
08:27 We need to provide education.
08:34 Especially in indigenous languages to the people who live in that region.
08:56 We propose here in this summit the creation of new spaces for sharing our concerns and
09:04 solutions for the problems that we are facing right now.
09:13 I would also like to highlight the need for mutual cooperation as the only way to achieve
09:23 our main goal which is preserving both the Amazonas and the well-being of the people
09:29 who live there.
09:38 The Amazonas is essential to the humanity's existence.
09:49 This is something that we need to remind the whole world.
09:53 Governments, citizens and children as well.
10:02 Our government is willing to use as much resources and money as is necessary to be able to provide
10:14 a solution for the Amazonic problem.
10:43 The Amazonas River was born in Peru.
10:52 That's why we understand that the creation of these new policies is essential to be able
11:01 to save both the river and the forests.
11:13 That's why I have come here today to defend the Amazonas, its rights and the creation
11:20 of ecological policies that will protect and solve the needs that the Amazonas region has.
11:44 We need international cooperation as well.
11:57 We need more than words to be able to collaborate and cooperate to try to solve this problem
12:09 that we have been ignoring for a few years now.
12:20 But it's our responsibility, the responsibility of the countries who share the Amazonic space
12:31 of finding new ways of exploring natural resources without damaging the earth and therefore be
12:41 able to provide for our citizens.
12:50 Which will be undoubtedly an incredibly hard challenge and hopefully will be addressed
12:56 in the next summit.
13:05 Mr. President, colleagues, like I said before, Peru as a country who has a great commitment
13:31 to the protection of the Amazonas, taking into account that it represents a big part
13:38 of our national territory.
13:43 We invite the rest of the heads of state here to collaborate to be able to come up with
13:54 a solution to this problem.
14:02 Because of this, we want that this summit will have concrete results with the creation
14:16 of valuable projects that provide the protection that we need.
14:45 Therefore I, along with other authorities in Peru, I would like to invite all the countries
14:59 gathered here today to make summits more frequently and to participate actively in upcoming meetings
15:14 or summits held internationally, mostly to defend the rights that the Amazonic region
15:22 has.
15:31 Finally, I would like to say, President Lula, this year that we celebrate another year of
15:49 the alliances between Peru and Brazil.
15:56 I would like to invite you to visit Peru to reinforce the cooperation and the unity between
16:11 our countries.
16:24 Thank you very much.
