00:00 Now I will give the word to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Guyana.
00:25 President Lula de la Silva, heads of state gathered here today.
00:46 It is an honor for me to be able to share my thoughts and concerns here in the summit.
01:13 I would like to take advantage of my presence here and talk about the problems and the challenges
01:37 that we need to solve and achieve in order to be able to solve the problem that we have
01:48 been talking about these days.
02:01 I would like to transmit to all of you the message of the President of Guyana, who deeply
02:12 regrets not being able to be here with you today.
02:29 We have seen through the years how our planet is being destroyed, suffering the effects
02:38 of the climate change and the rest of the environmental problems that are affecting
02:46 life on Earth.
02:56 I would also like to highlight that if we keep acting the way that we're doing right
03:01 now, it's nearly impossible to be able to affirm that humanity will exist much longer.
03:22 The Amazon rainforest plays an inviolable role in the whole Earth and whole world ecosystem.
03:43 The Amazon is home for most of the natural resources that Latin America has, but also
03:50 is home to thousands of plants, animals, indigenous people who live there.
03:59 That's why it's so important to preserve and protect the Amazon region.
04:22 That is why we, all Latin American countries, need to gather our forces, also taking into
04:31 account the health of other organizations, to be able to come to an agreement and take
04:41 action to be able to solve the environmental crisis the Amazon is facing right now.
05:02 We need to solve these problems in order to avoid fires, deforestation, even criminal
05:10 activities that are affecting our countries and our citizens.
05:16 But we need to protect it also to be able to provide for future generations.
05:39 All heads of state and organizations that are participating here in this summit need
05:48 to propose solutions and the creation of a sustainable economy that can provide for our
05:59 countries and also protect the environment.
06:22 It's important that in our next meeting that will be held in Dubai, we need to find different
06:35 solutions for being able, like I said before, to provide for future generations and improve
06:47 our current programs and hopefully create new ones that can provide for our people and
06:59 protect the environment.
07:02 We also need other countries, European countries and industrialized countries, to collaborate
07:11 with us because this is not only a task for Latin American countries.
07:17 It's also important that foreign countries participate to be able to achieve our main
07:26 goal.
07:32 We need to keep defending the creation of new alternatives.
07:37 We need to defend the need of the Amazon for protecting forests and indigenous people.
08:00 We need to create a space for shared thoughts, concerns, politics and scientific improvements.
08:22 Guyana is
08:46 aware of the danger that climate change represents and we are working on new environmental politics.
09:07 That's why the government in Guyana is fully committed to the implementation of new ecological
09:25 policies that avoid the forestation and erosion of the soils, being able to provide for our
09:40 region and being able to provide economically as well.
10:09 Guyana and the rest of the Caribbean countries will unite efforts to be able to face the
10:21 current problems and be able to face problems that might come in the future.
10:30 This is defending vulnerable groups and indigenous communities and reinforcing our commitment
10:41 with an economical development.
11:00 Indigenous communities play an invaluable role when protecting the Amazonic area and
11:06 providing solutions for the improvement of the current conditions.
11:19 The connection that indigenous people have with the Amazon is sacred.
11:23 It is actually quite big because the Amazon is not only the home of indigenous people
11:31 but also is the provider of food, medicine and home for these people.
11:39 That's why they have a better understanding of how to protect and take care of the Amazonic
11:48 ecosystem.
11:57 I consider that this summit is being held at a good time, taking into account that this
12:12 is the moment to take action and to put into practice all the investigations and the scientific
12:26 improvements that we have made so far.
12:36 We need to reinforce collaboration, especially in Amazonic countries, to be able to reinforce
12:47 the protection of the environmental resources and to be able to set a path for a better
13:00 future, hopefully an economical future for our region and the whole planet as well.
13:24 We need to share our improvements and our politics with the rest of the world so the
13:32 international community can learn from the improvements we have made so far and also
13:40 for them to know that we are committed and we are aware of the current situation, not
13:49 only in the Amazonas but also in the rest of the world.
14:05 This is why Latin American countries have the need to keep up with this collaboration,
14:12 sharing experiences and finding viable solutions for the environmental crisis.
14:33 It's important to remember that the Amazonas is not only a storage for natural resources,
14:43 it is also our heritage and our culture.
15:05 We need to guarantee that the Amazonas is still our economic and biodiversity pride.
15:27 And I will give the word to the Vice President of the Venezuelan people.
